Description
Patented May 13, 1936* rear error SWEEPING COMPOUND No Drawing.
his invention relates to a composition of matter, more particularly to a sweeping compound adapted to be sprinkled over a floor space prior to sweeping the latter in order to absorb dust particles raised during the sweeping operation, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a compound of such class formed with a base of fibrous material whereby it possesses an extremely light characteristic, enabling the covering of a maximum area of floor space with a minimum amount of the compound by weight, and whereby it may be inexpensively manufactured.
A compound in accordance with this invention consists of a base of shredded fibrous material, a mineral oil, and a vegetable oil. The fibrous material is preferably paper and may be advantageously procured by tearing 39 old newspapers or the like into shreds, in
any suitable manner. The vegetable oil is preferably cedar oil. The mineral oil is one of those oils derived from petroleum such lubricating and preferably possesses substantially the following characteristics:
In preparing a compound in accordance with this invention, a mineral oil having substantially the above designated characteristics is heated to 100 F. and mixed with the shredded fibrous material, preferably paper, and a vegetable oil, preferably cedar. The ingredients are preferably mixed in the proportion of 100 pounds of the fibrous material,
4.: 100 pounds of the mineral oil, and 500 grams of the vegetable oil. After mixing, the compound may be stored in any suitable way but is preferably packed in metal containers.
It is thought that the many advantages of a compound in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent, and although the compound preferably is prepared as herein described, yet it is to be understood that slight variations in the characteristics of the ingredients and in the proportions thereof Application filed February 2, 1929.

may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A sweeping compound consisting of a shredded fibrous material, a mineral oil, and a vegetable oil.
2. A sweeping compound consisting of shredded paper, a mineral oil, and a vegetable oil.
3. A sweeping compound consisting of shredded paper, a mineral oil, and cedar oil.
4. A sweeping compound consisting of a shredded fibrous material, a mineral oil, and cedar oil.
5. A sweeping compound consisting of a shredded fibrous material, a mineral oil, and a vegetable oil, said fibrous material, mineral oil, and vegetable oil being in the proportion of one hundred pounds fibrous material, one hundred pounds mineral oil, and five hundred grams vegetable oil.
6. A sweeping compound consisting of shredded paper, a mineral oil, and a vegetable oil, said shredded paper, mineral oil, and cedar oil being in the proportion of one hundred pounds shredded paper, one hundred pounds mineral oil, and five hundred grams vegetable oil.
7. A sweeping compound consisting of shredded paper, a mineral oil, and cedar oil, said shredded paper, mineral oil, and cedar oil being in the proportion of one hundred pounds shredded paper, one hundred pounds mineral oil, and five hundred grams cedar oil.
8. A sweeping compound consisting of a shredded fibrous material, a mineral oil. and cedar oil, said fibrous material, mineral oil, and cedar oil being in the proportion of one hundred pounds fibrous material, one hundred pounds mineral oil, and five hundred grams cedar oil.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto.
EDWARD CONRAD.
