Description
- J. MARTIN May 20, 1930.
I LADYS BOOT Filed Aug. 13, 1928 Patented May 20, 1930 UNITED STATES PATEN T OFFICE,"
FRANK J. MARTIN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO JOHNSON-STEPHENS & SHINKLE SHOE COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION OF MISSOURI LADYS BOOT Application filed August 13, 1928. Serial No. 299,370.
This invention relates to boots or shoes and more particularly to ladies boots.
In the construction of boots, more particularly the blucher type, the tongue is seamed to the vamp at the front, this seam extending laterally for some distance on each side of.
the medial line, while the top is also seamed to the vamp, this latter seam, however, terminating back of the connection of the medial point of the tongue with the vamp. In such a boot 0r shoe the top extends'forward where secured to the vamp to lace across the tongue. Such a shoe is difficult to put on or take off the foot, especially where the instep of the foot and particularly the crown of the instep is rather high.
One of the objects of this invention, there fore, is to provide a boot, more particularly of the character described, in which the tongue is so attached to the vamp as to permit yield, in order to facilitate placement-of the boot on and removal from the foot of the wearer and provide a comfortable fit.
Further objects will appear from the detail description taken in connect-ion with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a' perspective front view of' a boot embodying this invention; and
Figure 2 is a side elevation, showing part of the top cut away, in order to show the elastic connection.
Referrlng to the accompanying drawlng, 1
designates the vamp and 2 the top of a boot.
The tongue 3 is seamed or attached to the vamp by a line of stitches l, while the top is attached or seamed to the vamp by a continuation of the line of stitches 4. The front edges of the top start at points back of the connection of the medial line of the tongue with the vamp, so as to overlap the same a short distance, as shown at 5, as usual in boots of this type. The upper is preferably provided with elements such as eyelets 6 adapted to receive lacing.
As described above, the seam connecting the tongue with the vamp terminates'short distances in back of the forward edges of the top where they connect with the vamp. In accordance with this invention, elastic webbing 7 of any suitable construction is seamed to the tongue at 8 and to the vamp by the line Y of stitches 4, so as to form V-shaped elastic connections between the tongue and the vamp, but inside and covered by the top when laced, this top'being formed to have its edges extendingforwardly and then down, as shown 1n Figure 2. In accordance with this inven tion the tongueis secured to the vamp at the front and is elastically connected thereto at the sides below the crown of the instep, while the top extends forward where seamed to the yamp so as to overlap the elastic connection in order to lace across the tongue."
The boot constructed as described, provides an elastic connection between the tongue and the vamp, which, while yielding when the shoe is put on or taken off the foot, nevertheless secures a snug fit when the shoe is in place. Not only may, therefore, the shoe be taken on and off, but it is comfortable to the wearer on account of the snug, but, nevertheless,
made in the details of construction within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit'of this invention. It is, therefore, to be understood that this invention is not to belimited to the specific details shown and/or described.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A ladys boot having, a vamp, a top seamed thereto and provided with lacing receiving elements, and. a tongue secured to the vamp at the front and elastically connected thereto at the sides below the crown of the instep, the top extending forward where seamed to the vamp so-as to overlap the elastic connection and in order to lace across the tongue.
In testimonywhereof Iaffix my signature this llth day of August, 1928. 1
' FRANK J. MARTIN.
