Description

May 20, 1930.
C. KNIGHT SERVING TABLE .Filed May 18, 1928 INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented May 20, 1930 UNITED STATES CHESTER KNIGHT, OF NEW YORK, N.l Y.
SERVING TABLE Application led May 18, 1928. Serial No. 278,830.
This invention relates to improvements in serving tables.
The primary object of the invention resides in a wheeled serving table which under ordinary conditions may be used as a practical household article of furniture, such as a utility table, tea wagon, or serving table, and
which in cases ofA sickness may be used as a serving table by reason of its novel construction which allows the top to be removed with food or the like arranged thereon, and placed upon the bed without disturbing any of the articles thereon.
Another object of the invention is to provide a utility table which includes a wheeled structure having shelves and drawers therein, and which removably supports a serving tray, by which articles upon the tray may be transported from place'to place, and the tray removed for service to a person conined to bed.
A further object is the provision of a serving table of the above kind which may be made up in various designs to suit the household furnishings of a room so as not to detract from the artistic appearance thereof.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in a certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are v particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying, drawing, in which y i Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved serving table.
Figure 2 is an end elevation.
Figure 3 is a detail vertical sectional view on the line 3*?) of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary erspective view of the serving table with t e serving tray in a separated position. l y
Referring to the drawing by reference characters, the numeral 10 designates a' wheeled table having four or more legs 11 held together by a table top proper 12 and a lower shelf 13. Sliding drawers 14 and 15 are respectively mounted below the top 12 and shelf 13 for pulling out at one of the sides of the table, and which may be used to store pieces of silver ware, serving articles or the like, while the shelves may support a teav set, or other dishes under ordinary conditions.
The bottom ends of the legs 11 carry ball bearing wheels or castors 16, by which the table may be rolled from place to place.
rlhe top ends of the legs extend above the table top 12 and are provided with sockets or recesses 17 foi` a purpose to be persently eX- plained.
Supported upon the tops of the legs is a serving tray 18 which Vis provided with four depending short legs 19, from which pins 20 extend. The pins 2O seat in the respective sockets 17 when the tray is in position upon the table, and prevent horizontal shifting of the tray during the rolling of the table. The top of the tray mayV contain a glass panel 21 for sanitary and practical purposes'. The
legs 19 serve to support the tray in spaced relation to the table top 12, to allow articles to be arranged upon the latter when the tray is in position and which articles are not disturbed when removing the tray from the table for serving purposes.
For every day use, the table may be used for the same purpose as the well-known tea wagon to serve as a utility table in transporting food from one room to another, but in the event of sickness where a member of a household is confined to bed, the table will Abe found most convenient as the food can be placed upon the tray 18 and rolled to the -bedside, whereupon the tray is lifted from the table and placed upon the bed, the legs 19 serving to support the same thereon. Y If desired. the tray may be used by a person in bed for writing purposes as .it is flat and provides a rigid structure.
Although I have specifically mentioned that the serving table may be used in households as a piece of furniture, it may also be found be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the Whole of my invention limited only by the appended claims.
What is claimed as new is l. serving table comprising a Wheeled table proper having sockets at the top thereof, a'removable serving tray,l legs extending from said serving tray,' and pins projecting from the free ends of saidl legs forseating in the respective sockets for supporting said serving tray above and in spaced relation to the top of said Wheel tzfbleproper.A y f l Q. A serving table comprising a vWheeled table' proper having supporting legs extend- 'ing above 'the top thereof, the tops of said legs having sockets therein, a serving tray having depending legs, and pins on the ends of said last named legs for seating in the respec-tive sockets. y f l In testimony whereof I haveaflixed my sigl nature.
CHESTER KNIGHT.
