Description
June 3, 1930. w. s. FLEMING 6 I ROOF DRAIN FIXTURE Filed April 9, 1929 gnwntoz 11 Fig. 2 shows a central vertical section or l atented .lune 3, 1930 U ITED STATES WELLS s. FLEMING, or PORTLAND, OREGON noon-nears FIXTURE Application filed April 9,
The object of my invention is-to provide a simple and practical roof drain fixture so constructed that it will not leak between the water proofing material of the roof and the 1 fixture and provided with simple auxiliary means for preventing the drainage fixture from becoming clogged with roofing-tar, leaves and the like.
A further object of my invention is to 10 provide such means as a guard rail removably mounted on the said drainage fixture, for preventing the same from becoming clogged which may be easily removed when desirable as when the roof and drains are to be cleaned and which can be removed without disturbing or disrupting the water proofing surface of the roof.
I attain those objects in a drainage fixture comprising a body having an annular lateral flange and a central chamber connecting with a drain pipe, a slotted cover plate adapted to be bolted to said annular flange, with the sheet of waterproof material of the roof secured therebetween i'n combination with an upright guard rail removably mounted on said cover plate and secured thereto by the bolts securing the cover plate,-to the drain body, the guard rail being slotted vertically to permit the passage of water, butto prevent foreign material from being carried into the drain.
These and other incidental features of my invention, the details of construction and method of its use are hereinafter fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a perspective. view of my drainage fixture with the guard rail mounted thereon; 4
my drainage fixture as shown in Fig. 1, but
with a sheet of waterproof material clamped between the drain body and the cover plate. With reference to the figures my drainage fixture comprises an upwardly flaring drain body 2 provided with a central bore 3 threaded on its inner surface to which a drain pipe not shown, may be connected.
The upwardly flaring portion of the drain J? body 2 is tormed with a lateral circumferen- Senn- N. esav'ee.
A cover plate 8 is provided, adapted to be seated onsaid flange 5" with a sheet of waterproofmaterial 10 therebetwe'en. The cover plate 8 is formed, preferably, with an up-' right slotted dome 11 and an annular depression 12 about its base. Spaced bolt holes 14 are provided adjacent the circumference of the said cover plate, spaced to register with the bosses 7 providing bolt recesses 7 of the flange 5 and perforations 15 are provided in the depression 12 about thebas'e of the dome.
A circular upright gdard rail 16 provided with vertical slots 17 is adapted to be seated onthe cover plate 8 and arranged about the depression 12, and is provided with bolt holes 18 in its bottom Hang-em arranged'to register withthe bolt holes 14 of the cover plate and the bolt recesses 7 of the drain body.
The cover platef8 is preferably provided with the dome 11 but the saiiie'need not be used, in which case additional perforations would be substituted inits placeinthe'said cover plate.
The installation of my drain body is as follows: The drain body 2 is mounted in the roof and a circular hole is cut in the waten proof material 10 of the roofing cover, of approximately equal diameter to the flaring portion of the drain body and laid over the flange 5, the cover plate 8 is then laid over the waterproof material and the guard rail is set in place. The guard rail and cover plate are then secured to the drain body by bolts 19 inserted through their respective bolt holes 14 and 18, and threaded into the said bolt recesses 7. a
By this construction, the drainage fixture cannot leak between the roof and the exterior of the fixture and the guard rail is conveniently removable and will prevent accumulations of leaves, dust and the like from clogging the drainage fixture, but at the same time permit the efficient drainage of the roof.
I claim:
1. In a drainage fixture of the character described, a body having an annularlateral flange and a central chamber connected with a drain pipe, a cover plate adapted to be bolted to said annular flange and provided with an annular depression, perforations provided in said depression, a circular upright guard rail arranged about said depression and adapted to be bolted to said cover plate and bolts securing said guard rail and said cover plate to said drain body.
2. In a drainage fixture of the character described, a body having an annular lateral flange and a central chamber connected with a drain pipe, a cover plate adapted to be bolted to said annular flange and provided with an annular depression, perforations provided in said depression, a circular up right guard rail arranged about said depression and adapted to be bolted to said cover plate, bolts securing said guard rail and said cover plate to said drain body and the guard rail slotted vertically to permit the passage of Water to the drain body but to prevent foreign material from being carried into the drain.
3. In a drainage fixture of the character described, a body having an annular lateral flange and a central chamber connected with a drain pipe, a cover plate adapted to be bolted to said annular flange and provided With an annular depression, a central slotted dome integral With the cover plate projecting from said depression, perforations provided in said depression about the base of said dome, a circular upright guard rail arranged about said depression and adapted to be bolted to said cover plate, bolts securing said guard rail and said cover plate to said drain body, and the guard rail slotted vertically to permit the passage of water to the drain body but to prevent for eign material from being carried into the drain.
