IMPROVEMENT IN BOXES FOR HOLDING SHEETS OF PAPER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [76,341, dated April 18, 1876; application filed May 22, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID K. OSBOURN, of the city of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented a certain Improved Box, especially designed as a receptacle for and holder of water closet paper, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof.
My invention consists in an open-top box, capable of being secured to or suspended from the wall of the water-closet, of a shape and size adapting the said box to conveniently hold sheets of paper of asuitable size for the purpose in view, and having an inclined bottom, or one extending "upward at an angle from the back of the box to thefront thereof, A
the'object of this construction of the bottom being to cause each sheet of paper to extend higherfrom the box than the one behind it, to enable single sheets to be removed with facility therefrom.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the box with its contents. Fig. 2 shows a vertical section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts of the invention in both views.
In the drawing referred to, A represents the box, it having the inclined bottom a and open top, as shown, and the aperture to, by means of which it may be suspended. The front of the box is made solid, to support the sheets of paper in an erect position, a portion of said front being removed at b, to facilitate the removal of the contents. The sheets of paper are shown by O, and as they all rest upon the inclined bottom of the box, and are of the same size, their upper edges represent a line parallel with the bottom, the front sheet being the highest, the height of each of the others decreasing in regular gradation.
The box may be made of pasteboard, as I prefer to make it, or of any other suitable materiaL- The sides of the box at the top are inclined forward, as shown, to give greater projection to the paper.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure byLetters Patent of the United States, is-- As a new article of manufacture, a box having sides the upper edges of which decline from the back piece, and an inclined bottom, to facilitate the withdrawal of the papers, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have subscribed my name hereto this 19th day of May, A. D. 1874.
DAVID K. OSBOUEN.
