- LAUNDRY TRAY and M1 7, 1926 Jwoentoc Patented July 29, 1930 UNITED STATES HYMEN A. BLANCHARD, or BUFFALO, NEW YORK LAUNDRY TRAY Application: filed August 7, 1926. Serial No. 121,910.
This invention relates to improvements in laundry trays and more particularly to the drainage fittings for such trays. The invention isap'plicable to a combination of three trays and its objects are to simplify and reduce the piping by which the trays are connected to the drain line, to minimize the plumbing work and to insure accurate fitting, and to utilize the drainage fitting in re- 1=3 enforcing the bottoms of the trays.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing inwhich: v
Figure 1 is a sectional View of a three tray combination.
Figure 2 is an elevation Ofj'thQ'imPI'OVGCl drainage fitting. g
i As shown in Figure lthe three cement trays A, B and C are cast as a unit, the intermediate tray B being separated from the 0 tray A by a partition D and from the tray G by a partition E. The improved drainage fitting indicated generally at 1 has a drainage mouth for eachof the trays A, B and C and a common discharge nipple to which the drain pipe is connected. The said fitting in cludes a hollow body 2 having at one side a drainage mouth 3 which" communicates I with the tray C and at the opposite side a drainage mouth 4 which communicates with the tray B. The body 2 is suitably curved whereby the water entering the mouths 3 and 4 goes downward toward the center of said body and is formed on its bottom'or underside with the discharge nipple 5, the arms of the body 2 which connect the said months with the discharge nipple 5 preferably being formed along a common curve. The drain age fitting alsoincludes an elongated tubular branch or extension 6 which communicates with one of the arms of the body Q inthis instance the arm which is. provided with the mouth 4i andwhich terminates in a discharge mouth 7 for communicating with the tray A. The extension 6 ispreferably tapered toward its discharge end, is inclined downward from the mouth 7 to the point at which itjoi'ns the bodyQ whereby to facilitate the drainage flow of the water in the tub A and to deliver such water to the body 2 at a. point and in a direction which-will avoid any liability of the waiter backing up into either of the trays B andC, the extension 6 communicating with the body 2 at a point near its bottom and near the nipple 5. The tapering of the extension accelerates" the flow of water therethrough and facilitates the continuous removal of suspended matter. The drainage. fitting is cast in the bottom of the triple assembly of laundry trays with the body Qvarranged symmetrically under the partition E and with the extension 6 extending transversely through the bottom of the tray B.. 'The drainage fitting is. completely" embedded in the bottom of the tray combination except for the nipple 5which provides a commonldischarge for the three trays andwhich projects' to a suitable extentbeyond the bottom of the'unita r a The partitions D and E are. provided. with overflow openings-F near the topof theunit and with discharge ducts G extending downward from such openings and the drainage fitting is provided in its upper side with discharge. openings 8' and 9 which: communicate. with the ducts G, the dischargeopening .8beinglocated at thecenter of the. upper side of the body 2 and the discharge opening 9 being located near the, outer end of the extension 6. The drain pipe H requires but a single connection to provide for the: complete drainage of the three trays or anyone of them, this connection being made in the usual man- DQPWith the discharge nipple 5 and being devoid of. any complications by which its security is impaired or which require extended plumbers work. All partsfot the fitting being enclosed except the discharge nipple 5 it follows-that no specialform or arrange ment'of supporting legs for the three. trays I is required "as is frequently thecase where the drainage pipes are extended below. most ofthe bottom ofthe unit.
The extension 6 has the further advantage of bracing or reenforcing the bottom of the unit under the central. tray B. In transpor- J5 tation or careless handling during installa tion three tray units are frequently broken and breakage usually occurs in the bottom of the central tray. By the arrangement shown wherein the extension 6 provides a 1" reenforcement such liability of breakage is reduced to a minimum.
Having fully described my invention, I claim: 7
