Description
E. G. BU-RGET'L MEAL-CHEST.
Patented May 16, 18-76;
ATTBBNEYS.
NI'IED STATES PATENT OFFIGE.
' ERASTUS e. BURGETT, 0F WABASH, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT l N MEAL-CHESTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 177,320, dated May 16, 1876; application filed October 2, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERASTUS G. BURGETT, 0t Wabash, in the county of Wabash and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Combined Table and Flour-Chest, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figures 1 and 2 represent vertical transverse sections of my improved table and flour-chest combined, showing the same, respectively, in
closed and opened position.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. V This invention relates to an improved flourchest and table for grocers, kitchen and other purposes, in which the various articlesas flour, sugar, coli'ee, tea, &c.m'ay be stored, so as to be fully covered and protected, while being instantly available for use,,saving room and dispensing with the barrels, boxes, 850.
The invention consists of a chest with one or more bins, pivoted in such amanner at the bottom of the table or counter, and supported on bearing-rails in such a manner, that the chest may be opened or closed, and retained securely in either position. I I
In the drawing, A represents a strong kitchen-table or counter for store purposes, and 'B the swinging chest, which is pivoted at some distance above the floor to bearing-rails a at the lower part of the supporting side walls of the table. The chest is made of one or more compartments or bins, according to the pivot-point, is parallel to the bottom of the chest, while the part in front of the pivots is cut at an obtuse angle to rear part. When the chest is thrown forward by the button (I or treadle 0 into open position, it is supported in inclined position on the bearing-rails a by the front part of the swinging railsb, so that the contents of the chest are easily reached. By pushing the chest back either by the hand or knee, the same swings backon the rear. part of the rail, and is thus supported in closed position without admitting flies, dust, or other impurities. A kneading-board, O, is arranged below the'top of the table, slidingin and out, as required.
A till, D, may be placed on the top of the counter or table ,A, andpivoted in similar manner by guiderails to an inclosing-case, D, to be opened and closed like the chest, and used for the storage of the rollingpin, spices, and other articles.
Having thus describedmy invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A combined table and flour or other chest, said table being provided with bottom rails,
on which are pivoted side extensions or rails,
ERAST US G. BURGETT.
