The present invention contemplates the provision of an eye shield or mask, primarily intended to be worn by workmen or mechanics to protect the eyes from injury against iiying particles or the like, the invention being constructed to permit of its use without affecting the vision of the wearer.

ln carrying out the invention I contemplate a mask of the above mentioned character,'characterized by means whereby the mask can be quickly and conveniently attached to the head and ears of the wearer or removed therefrom as the occasion may require. I The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the iollowing detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawing forming part of this application like numerals ot reference indicate similar part-s in the several views, and where- 1n Figure l is a view showing themanner of wearing the mask.

Figure 2 is a top plan view. Figure 3 is a sectional View through the 4 mask. The body of the mask is indicated at l0, and while it is preferably constructed of wire oi' any desired mesh, it may also be constructed from any other suitable foraminous material. rlhe mask l0 is curved to coniormto the face of t-he wearer, while the edges of the body portion l0 are coveredV with a` binding l1, which is preferably stitched to the body l0 as illustrated in Figure 3.

The mask is also formed with a: nose re- 40 ceiving recess alongV its lower edge and at a point between its ends, so that the mask can be comfortably worn as illustrated inFigure 1. The mask is held supported by means of an adjustable tape l2 adapted to be passed about the head of the wearer, and also vby means of loops 13 which are to be passed over the ears as clearly shown in Figurerl. The lower ends of the loops 13 are attached to the ends of the mask at the level of the lower end of the nose receiving recess, and the upper ends of the loops 13 are attached to the ends oil the mask substantially at the level of the upper end of the nose receiving recess. When the 'mask is applied to the head of the wearer with the recess receiving the nose and the loops extending around the ears, the lower edge of the mask is held in close contact with the cheeks of the wearer and the edges of the recess are held closely over the nose at the bridge thereof. Thus the lower portion of the mask isheld in close contact with the surace of the nose and cheeks .and prevents the entrance of dust underthe lower edge ot' the mask. At the same time the mask is held upon the head of the wearer without binding 55 or pressing upon the blood vessels at the temples, and thus checking circulation. By reason of this construction and arrangement, the mask can be quickly applied to the head, comfortably supported and can be easily removed when desired. lt is also very simple in construction and can be manufactured and sold at a very nominal cost.

While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature .and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, l desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein illustrated and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desir-ed as wall within the scope of what is claimed.

What l 'claim is A. shield comprising a body of oraminous material substantially rectangular 'in plan and adapted to curve to conform to the face of a wearer, said body having .at its lower longitudinal edge and at a point midway between the ends thereof, a nose receiving recess, ear loops attached at their ends to the ends of the body, the lower ends or the loops being attached to the body at the level of the lower end of the recess, thev upper ends of the loops being attached to the body approximately at the level or the upper end of the nose receiving recess.
