Description
J. STEIN NETHER GARMENT June 2, 1931.
Filed-Oct. 15, 1928 Jaw Patented June 2, 1931 Unitas stares earsnr orrics JACOB STEIN,0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK NETHER GARMENT Application fi1ed' 0ctober15, 1928. Serial No. 312,612.
This invention relates to nether-garments for women and particularly to the chemlse type of garment known as teddles'.
An object of the invention is the proviso that the nether-garment may be usec either with or without said shield.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a nether-garment of the above stated character which employs in combination 29 therewith a rubber inner lining removably suspended from the waist portion of the garment in a manner that will effectively sustain it in position and which will permit its ready removal without requiring buttons, fasteners, and the like, but which is held in position with respect to the garment by the waist contracting means desirable in garments of this type.
With the above and other objects in view, 0 the invention resides in sundry details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the appended claims.
In this specification and the annexed drawings, the invention is disclosed in the form in which it is considered to be the best, but the invention is not limited to such form because it is capable of being embodied in other forms; and it is to be understood '3 that in and by the claims following the clesc'ription herein it is intended to cover the invention in whatever form it may embody within the scope thereof.
In the drawings which show the preferred embodiment of the invention as at present devised Figure l is a perspective view of the garment of this invention; V
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the garment;
'viding leg openings 11. formed with a bodice 13 integralwith -or the waist portion of the gar-ment.
Figure 3 is a view illustrating the construction of the rubber shield and the position it assumes when onthe wearer and Figure t'is a fragmentary detail view showing the manner in which the shield is held in position'on the garment.
Referring "11 detail to the drawings, the nether-garment of this invention has a full loose, short skirt-like portion 10 having its lower edges closed or'fysecured together "between the legsof the wearer, as at'12, pro- The garment is joined to the skirt portion 10 at or about i The garment is-supported from the shoulders of the wearer by usual straps 14 having their ends connected to the upper edges of the bodice 13. In orderthat the upper "edge of the. bodice may fit closely above the breasts, it is usually provided with a draw string 15; and, a draw string 16is usually provided atthe point where the bodice and the skirt 7 portion 10 arejoined for the purpose of relieving the garment of its fullness about the waist of the wearer and supporting thelower portion of the garment.
Ali-inner shield 18'of impervious material, such as sheet rubber is disposed within the skirt portion 10 and is removably suspended fromthe waist portion of the garment, inorder to protect the nether-garment and outer garments from perspiration or other emissionsfrom the body. In the present form of the invention, the skirtflO and the bodice 13 are connected together by open work or lace 17 through which the draw string 16 is threaded in an effective and ornamental manner. The end edges' of the shield 18 are likewise'provided with a strip of lace1990 which is stitched to it in any suitable or approved manner and is laid against the lace 17 of the garment so that the lacing or rib bon 16 may be simultaneously extended through the lace thereof'and thereby held in'position. Obviously, when it is not desired to use theshield 18, it may be removed by merely withdrawing the lacing 16from the opening or lace 19 of the lining.
.IVhile in this disclosure I- have shown lace 17 and 19, the same results may be accomplished by providing the garment and the edges of the shield will lie below the openpermitting vertical adjustment lining 18 with other suitable Openings through which a lacing 16 may be threaded in-the manner described. This means of attaching the shield to the garment permits the shield to be positioned and adjusted around the waist portlon of the garment as the draw string or ribbon 16. 'It will be obvious also that if thestring 16 is loosened and suspending loops provided therein at the point Where the string is threaded through the openings or lace 19, the upper ings, or lace 18 in the nether-garment, thus of the crotch portion of the shield. r j 2 The shield 18 is formed of sheet rubber or other impervious material and takes the form of an elongated strip of sheet material having a rear or seat portion a. of a width sufficient to extend across the buttocks of the wearer, while the crotch portion 7) and abdominal portion a are relatively narrower and formed by cutting the edges of the crotch portion on converging-lines from the seat portion, the abdominal portion being mainly an extension of the crotch'portion and may be slightly wider at its free end.
The garment thus described provides a nether-garment having anadjustable and removable shield for sanitary purposes, which shield may be removed therefrom when desired, thus the garment being ca pable of' being worn at all times. It will also be obvious that a nether-garment of the 2. A nether-garment having a bodice supporting a lower trunk covering portion, said garment having a series of circumferential openings about the waist portion thereof, a sanitary shield consisting of an elongated strip of impervious material having its ends detachably secured respectively to the front and back waist portions of the garment, the
ends of said shield having a series of transverse openings therein, a draw-string threaded through the openings of the waist in the garment and through the openings in said sanitary shield whereby the garment may be contracted about the waist and said shield may be detachably'secured in position and rendered vertically adjustable. a v
In testimony whereof I have hereunto setmy hand. V
' i STEIN.
present construction is devoid of' objection able attaching means for the removable shield as the same is removably supported by the ornamental waist restrictingmeans desirable in garments of this type; r
Having thus-described-the invention, what is claimed is 1. A nether-garment including a lower trunk covering portion, said garment having a series of circumferential openings about the waist portion thereof, a sanitary shield of impervious material having a series of transverse openings at its ends, and a drawstring threaded through the-openings of the waist in the garment and through the openings in .said sanitary shield whereby the garmentrnay be contracted'about the. waist position and rendered vertically adjustable relative to the garment to loosen 'or tighten the shield'against the crotchof thewearer,
and said shield may be detachably secured in r
