. mums, or o COMBINATION CONTAIN Application filed February The present invention relates to a combination container and bottle opener and has for its primary object the provision of a container having attached tothe bottom thereof a bottle opening device designed to permit convenient removal of a bottle cap.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a container, preferably in the form of a tumbler having the bottom formed to intimately engage a bottle opening device designed particularly to engage the well known form of bottle cap to remove the cap in cooperation with the tumbler.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a drinking tumbler having a bottle cap remover attached to the bottom thereof and arranged so that the tumbler can be firmly positioned in an upright arrangement.

Still another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above character which will be relativelysimple and durable in construction and which will be eflicient in use. e

Other objects and advantages of the invention will'become apparent as the description progresses. I

as to permit the same to be positioned ina solid upright arrangement. About the outer edge of the tumblerbottom is formed a laterally projecting annular ridge 11 adapted to form a projection disposed to engage a cap removing member, which will be described hereinafter. The outer or lower face of the tumbler bottom is formed to provide a relatively large, centrally disposed concave recess or indentation, indicated at 12.

Rigidly connected with the bottom or base structure of the tumbler 10 is a cap engaging member, generallydesignated at 13, preferably formed from a comparatively thin metallic plate of circular form. Adjacent the centre, the plate is provided. with-a pair of diametrically opposed openings 14 of elliptical form disposed to form a diametral rib 15 idiminishing in width toward its medial per- The peripheral marginal portion of the plate member 13 is turned over the ridge 11 and disposed to snugly adhere to the exterior surface thereof to provide a connecting flange 16 of substantially semi-circular'cross section, rigidly connecting the member 13 to the bottom of the tumbler. The intermediate portion of the plate will extend in flat arrangement across the bottom of the tumbler in a plane with the lowermost peripheral margin of-the tum'bler bottom to provide a level tumbler support.

In employing the device for the removal of a bottle cap, the bottle is held in an upright position with one hand while the tumbler and removing device are positioned thereon with the other. The bottom portion of the tumbler is arranged over. the bottle cap in an inclined position so that a portion of the cap will project through one of the openings 14 and the rib 15 placed in contact with the lower edge of the cap. The opposed edge portion of the opening is positioned on the top surface of the cap to provide a fulcrum, the tumbler and removing device being forced from the inclined to a vertical position so as to remove the cap from the upper rim of the bottle.

' The modified construction of the device, illustrated in Figures 4; and 5, embodies a tumbler 17 provided with an annular ridge 18 projecting laterally about the bottom por-,

tion thereof. The under side or outer face of the tumbler bottom is provided with a relatively large central recess or indentation 19 of circular form, as shown to advantage in Figure 5.

Tightly attached to the base of the tumbler 17 is a cap removing member 20 formed of a relatively thin durable metallic plate having the exterior annular flange 21 snugly embracing the outer surface of the ridge 18 and also provided with an interior annular inturned flange 21 projecting within the recess 19 a fractional portion of its depth adjacent to and spaced slightly from its outer edge. Thus, the removing member is in the form of an annular flanged element attached to the tumbler by its peripheral flange 21 and providing a cap engaging structure through the medium of the interior flange 22.'

In using this modified form of the invention, the tumbler is disposed bottom foremost upon the bottleclosing cap and arranged so that the top cap supporting portion of the bottle will project within the recess 19. The tumbler is then moved transversely so that a portion of the flange 22 will engage the bottom edge of the bottle cap, the under side of the tumbler being fulcrumed on the cap adjacent its opposed edge. The tumbler is then swung transversely over the bottle in the position indicated in Figure 5 so as to conveniently and effectively release the cap from the. bottle.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes as to the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the inventionor the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. A device of the character described comprising a container having a recess formed in the under side of the bottom, a cap removing member rigidly fastened to the bottom of the container, and a cap engaging element flange arranged to embrace the projection on cess in the tumbler, and an element formed on said plate adapted to engage the edge of a bottle cap and to remove the same upon employing the bottom of the tumbler as a fulcrum.

In a combination container and bottle opener, a tumbler provided with a centrally disposed recess in the under side of the bottom, an annular laterally projecting ridge formed about the bottom of the tumbler, an opener plate positioned across the bottom of the tumbler provided with an aperture in registration with the recess in the bottom of the tumbler attached to the tumbler by an arcuate the tumbler, and a cap engaging element formed at the edge of the recess in the plate disposed to contact with the under edge of a bottle cap and remove the same by swinging the tumbler as a fulcrum over the ca 4. In a combination container and bottle opener, a tumbler having a recess formed in the under side of the bottom, an annular lat-, erally projecting ridge formed about the bottom of the tumbler, a plate positioned across the under face of the tumbler bottom and attached thereto by a flange snugly embracing the ridge of the tumbler, the said plate being provided with a pair of recesses forming a diametral rib therebetween, the said rib being adapted to engage the edge portion of a bottle cap while the edge of the tumbler bottom acts as a fulcrum for removal of the cap.

5. In a combination container and bottle opener, a tumbler having a recess formed in the under side of the bottom, an annular laterally projecting ridge formed about the bot tom of the tumbler, an annular plate positioned across the under face of the tumbler bottom and attached thereto by a peripheral flange snugly embracing the ridge of the tumbler, and an inturned flange formed on the inner edge of the plate and projecting within the recess in the tumbler bottom adapted to engage the edge portion of the cap for removal of the same.
