This invention relates to a label holder to be'used at the fronts of drawers, trays or the like to carry a label which will indicate the contents of the container on which it is placed. One place where the label holder can be very advantageously used is at the front side of a printers galley, though it is to be understood that the invention is not limited with respect to its application or i to construct it so that the label which is held in the label holder is positively held against either accidental disengagement from the holder or creeping movement with respect thereto.

An understanding of the invention for the attainment of the ends stated will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which,

In Figs. 1 and 2 the label holder is illustrated as applied to a printers galley which, it will be understood, is usually made of sheet metal and includes in its structure a horizontal bottom 1 and a front vertical ledge 2, in

front of which the label holder is adapted to be located in use on the galley.

The label holder is made from a single blank of sheet metal. It comprises a vertieat back 3 from the lower edge of which a substantially U-shaped retaining lip 41: is turned upwardly in front of the back, while at each vertical edge similar retaining lips 5 turned inwardly over and in front of the b as-,1, as shown.

Between the ends of the holder and at its middle portion substantially in ahorizontal plane with the upper ends of the retaining lips o-r channels 5, a section of the metal is out at itsside edges from the back 3 and turned forwardly and downwardly at an acute angle to the vertical, as best shown in Figs. 8, 4E and 5 makingaretaining lip 6 under which the upper edge of the label is located. turned back horizontally for a short distance and then downwardly thereby providing retaining hooks 7 which, in the application of the label holder to the vertical front of a printers galley, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, hook over the upper edge of the front 2 thereof suspending the label holder from the upper edge of the front of the galley, and locating it in front thereof.

The label 8 is a rectangular piece of cardboard or similar material on which any suitable indicating characters may be printed or otherwise applied. In applying the same to the holder therefor, as shown in Fig. 2, it is bent outwardly between its ends to pass by the upper retaining lip 6 and its ends are inserted downwardly back of the vertical guides 5 until the lower edge portion is received back of the horizontal lower lip l. Thelabel is thenflexed substantially,as shown in Fig. 5, to pass the upper edge thereof beneath the upper lip 6. It is evident that when the label is once applied and held below the lip 6 it cannot be accidentally removed by jarring, vibration or the like, and the only way that it can be removed is by a deliberate removal thereof involving the bending and fl King of the label to disengage it from the holder.
