JOSEPH H. TRAVIS, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOOT-RESTS FOR CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,083, dated October 10, 1876; application filed January 6, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. TRAVIS, of Boston, in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Foot-Rest Chairs, of which the following is aspecification:
This invention relates to foot-rest chairs arranged substantially as in Letters Patent issued to me, dated October 22, 1872, and numbered 132,503; and it consists in chambering the foot-rest and otherwise adapting it, as hereinafter described, for use as a box or receptacle for stowiug away slippers, 850.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section, showing the improved foot-rest extended and in position for use; Fig.2, a section in detail, showing the foot-rest as in position to be pushed under the chairseat Fig. 3, a horizontal section on line a: m, Fig. 1; Fig. 4, a plan view of Fig. 2.
In the drawings, A represents a chairframe, B being the back, 0 the seat, D the legs, and E the foot-rest, suspended in a frame,
F, which is arranged on the chair-frame. all substantially as described in the Letters Patent before referred to.
The foot-rest E is chambered, as at G, for stowing away a pair of slippers or other articles, as may be desired, and it is provided on one side with a hinged lid, H, to open and close the chamber G, and with a button, a, properly located for fastening the lid H against accidental opening.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination with the frame F, secured to the chair A, the chambered foot-rest E, provided with a door, H, said foot-rest being pivoted in the aforesaid frame, as and for the purpose set forth.
J. H. TRAVIS.
