WESTQN; ONTARIOfCANADA sron'r Gnovn Application filed January 8, 931.';sria1 fi 507.352} i The principal objects of this invention are to devise a glove for use in such sports as hockey, lacrosse, etc., Where a stick is used, Which will adequately protect the fingers from damage through the slashing of sticks in the play, but which will be quite flexible, allowing the player the full freedom of the hand in the gripping and handling of the stick.

The principal feature of the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of pads upon the back of thefingers of' the glove whereby the padding of each finger is separated at the joints but projects outwardly from the fingers in such a manner as to adequately protect the joints.

It has been common practice in the manufacture of sport gloves to construct the fingers with raised padding along the back and opposite the joints a thinner and more flexible leather has been used as an insert between heavier and thicker sections but thepadding is continuous from the tip of the finger back to the base.

In the present invention the padding 1s placed on the fingers in three separate sections, 1, 2, 3, with the leather covering 4 over the pad being secured to the finger covering 5 of the glove proper. The padding is of an oval or semi-circular form in cross section on the top of the fingers and between the adjacent ends of the pads is sewn an insert' strip 6 of leather which is shaped with laterally flanged edge portions. 7 which are seamed to the ends of the rounded cover leathers the intermediate portion of said inserts extending down to the finger leather in the centre to which it is seamed, thus forming a V-shaped connection. It will thus be seen that not only is an abrupt shoulder 8 presented by this' construction which Willhave V the maxini'umprotective efiect in an obj ect from entering the I the pad sectionsbut' such shoulders'will be of a reinforced character due to the double thickness of material at this point so that the shoulders willnot'be easily brokendown in service and will afford continued'protection to the knuckles of the wearer. The various pad sections will thus be definitely supported against collapse at the ends due to the presence of the archlike reinforcing shoul ders so that they will not becomeflattened and their utility destroyed.

There is therefore at the joints no padding,

preventing v notch between but the pads at either side of a line across the finger at the joints project upwardlyand is of a suflicient thickness to adequately protect the joint from injury through being struck by a stick,as the break in the padding at the joint is much narrower than anything that is used.

It will be seen that the the several joints of the knuckles but at the actual knuckle joints there is only the thickness of the leather of the finger covering portion of the glove so that the glove is as flexible as an ordinary glove.

What I claim as my invention is 1. An improved fingered sport glove having individual padding on each finger divided longitudinally into a plurality of sections on the back of each finger whereby the maximum flexibility of said fingers individually and collectively is provided for, the meeting ends of said sections being reinforced to prevent collapse.

2. An improved fingered sport glove having individual short lengths of padding sepadding lies along cured to the back of each of the fingers and each extending between the knuckle joints whereby the maximum flexibility of said fingers individually and collectively is provided finger between the 1 sharp protective shoulder formations.

3. An improved sport glove having leather fingers with short-lengths of leather arranged longitudinally thereof and arched transpads presenting reinforced shouldersof the versely thereof, said short lengths being separated at points coinciding with the knuckle joints of the individual fingers of the wearer, padding material filled between the finger leather and the superposed leather, and insert pieces closing the adjacent endsiof the padding pockets formed by the superposed leathers and reinforcing the same.

4. An improved sport glove having normal leather fingers, short lengths of leather covered padding secured tothe-backs of said fingers and separated opposite the joints, and

short insert pieces of leather stitched to the backs of the leather fingers across the. joints and having laterally flanged edge portions secured to and closing theends of the short ends of said short pads. V
