This invention relates to packages and especially to packages of smokers goods such as cigarettes and cigars; it being understood that the word cigarette as hereinafter used will be intended to apply generally to such articles.

' 'It is an object of the invention to provide a package comprising containers each ada ted to enclose a flat pack of cigarettes and w ich containers are provided with a lacerable top with'which is combined a means to lacerate such top to provide'for access to the top ends of the inclosed cigarettes.

The invention consists in certain advancements in this art as set forth in theensuing disclosure and having, with the above, additional objects and advantages, and whose construction, combination and details of means, and the manner of operation will be made manifest in the description of the hereas it is more directly claimed hereinafter.

Figure 1 is a perspective of the spread containers of the package.

Each container encases what is here called a pack of cigarettes, in this embodiment each pack comprising only a single layer. The top and bottom of each container is closed across the ends of the pack and the tops of the containers are provided with means to rip open the top 5. Such means is here shownas including a rip cord or thread 6.

It will be seen that while the package may be vended without a wrapper it is capable of being vended in a low-cost, readily removed cover, not shown, or the package may be vended in an original can or box of any suitable nature.

The sealed package may be disposed unprotected with the containers 2-3 laid flatwise as in Figure 2, in a pocket of wearing apparel in a position to be readily accessed by merely ripping open the container top 5 as desired to expose the contents. Or, as aboveindicated, the package can be encased in a more or less expensive case not shown.

What is claimed is A smokers package including a multichamber envelope of transparent sheet material, each chamber containing a plurality of cigarettes lying in parallel and the chambers being hinged together on a line parallel to the length of the enclosed cigarettes;

the chambers being closed and sealed at and over the ends of the rows of cigarettes, and a severing thread laid in closed ends of the chambers; to facilitate opening for access to an end of a cigarette.

Figure 3 is a plan of the packed containers of the package. In the illustrated embodiment separate containers 23 of any suitable material, but preferably thin, low-cost, translucent or transparent sheathing through which the contents may be visible are shown as connected by a back-bone or hinge portion 4 which is preferably of the same material as that of which the containers are formed.
