E. W. N. BOOSEY Y DRAINAGE FITTING A TTORNE Y.
j ting for use with iioors of different thick-o Patented Aug. 23, 1932 f EDWARD W. N. noosnY,` or nnrnorr, MICHIGAN DRAINAGE FITTING Application 'iled December 10, 1930; Serial No. 501,453.f
This invention relates to drainage fittings and the object of the invention is to provide a drainage fitting in which the drain head is adjustable vertically to accommodate the fitnesses.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described in which any seepage through the floor or about the drainage fitting is carried into the drain.
I -age fitting embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the adjusting ring by which the height of the upper end of the drain is adjusted.
The drain comprises a drain pipe 1, shown in Figi, having an annular chamber 2 about the upper end thereof and a flange 3 extending outwardly from the chamber wall. This a section taken on line 2-2 of flange 3 is provided with a rounded shoulder f 4 and a lead flashing 5 is laid over this shoulder and extends into the annular chamber 2 as shown. The lead flashing 'extends outwardly about the drain fitting and may extend through or beneath the entire floor in which the drainage fitting is mounted. The annular chamber 2 is filled with caulking 6 to hold the inner edge of the lead flashing 5 in place and to prevent the annular chamber 2 from filling with water. The upper end of the drain comprises a tubular member 7 of smaller diameter than the diameter of the drain pipe 1 and this tubular member, as shown in Fig. 2, is provided with three vertical ribs 8 fitting within the drain pipe 1. At the upper end the member 7 is provided with a .drain head comprising a'iange 9.hav ing an upwardly extending flange 10 to which thev drain plate 11 is secured by the screws l2.A Anadjusting ring 13 is positioned about the tubular member 7 and is provided with a'set screw 14: by means of which the ring 13 may be secured at any point on the tubular mem#v ber 7 This ring 13 is provided with three lugs 15 on the bottom adapted to rest on the`V upper edge of the drain pipe 1 and space the ring from the upper Vedge of the said drain pipe. j The ring 13 is provided with an annular 'recess 16 therein and aseepagering 17 is positioned `in this recess and tsabout the tubular member 7. The upperedge-of the :drain pipe l is provided with an annular recess 18 and a seepage ring 19 is positioned in this recess and ts about the tubular member 7 These seepage rings are formed of felt orv other` flexible absorbent material and therefore readily tabout the tubular member `7 and are suiciently yieldable as to lit over the vertical ribs 8 thereon. By loosening the set screw 14 the upper end of the drain may be adjusted so that the'drain plate 11 will extend flush with the floor surface when the ooris laid. This drain -is excellently adapted for usein concrete floors as theupper end ofthe drain maybe adjusted while the'floor is being .laid and the concrete may then be laid thereabout. After the upperend of the drain has been adjusted to the proper position the set screw 14 is turned up tightlyv to A fix the ring 13 in position and this ring then supports the upper end of thedrain 'on the upper'edge ofthe drain pipe l;V vIf there is any seepage through the iioor it collects on the ashing 5 and is carried inwardly thereby and passes through the space2() between the upper edge of the drain pipe 1 and the spaced lower edge of the ring 413.-` This water then seeps through the seepage .ring 18 and through the space between the drain pipe 1 and the tubular member'7 so that theseepage thus flows into the drain. If there is any seepage about the tubular member '7 it flows into the space 21 between the ring 13 and the member 7 and through the seepage ring 17 andl thence throughY the seepage ring 19 into the' drain. By this arrangement the seepage is always carried into the drain and the surface drainage passes through the drain plate l1 and member 7 directly into the drain pipe 1.
From the foregoing description it becomes evident that the device is very simple and y efficient in operation, provides ay drainage Vfitting;Whichimay be adjustedto various floor thicknesses, will carry ofl" the seepage as welll as surface drainage and provides a device which accomplishes theobjects described.
Having thus fully described my invention,
its utility and mode of operation, what' I .claim and desire to secure by LettersPatent of the United States is l.h In` a drainage fitting, a drain.. pipe, a drainage head. including a. depending tubular portion having-an imperforate wall, a; series ofgvertical ribs` on, the exterior ofV the said mL tubularvportion, an adjusting ringadjustably secured to the tubular portion and Aextending-VV about thek said-ribs, a seepage ring carried bythe: adjusting ring and fitting about the chamber,.the saidchamber being-adaptedA to be filled'withcaulking tothe toplofY the drain pipe to` secure the ashingthereim, a drain head including a tubular dependingA portion havingv an imperforatewall.provided with vertical ribs extending-fintoY the drain pipe, an adjusting ring'adjustably secured about the tubular portionY and; resting' on `the upper endA ofthe drain. pipe, a. seepage .ring carried by the adjusting ring and fitting about the said tubular portion and a seepage ring. car.-
. riedbythe upper end of thedrain.pipe and fitting about thesaid tubular portion.`
- A3. In av drainage fitting, a drain pipe,.a drainageY head having a depending tubular portion fitting within .the drain pipe, the outer diameter of the tubular'portion being less than the inner diameter of the drain pipe thereby providing a passageway for fluid between-saidtubular portion and the drain ipe, an adjustingring adjustably secured a out the tubular portion and in spaced relation therewith, a. series of lugs onthe lower side of the adjusting ring resting on the upper end'ofthedrain pipe. and. spacing the adjusting; ring therefrom, anda seepage ring carrledby theupper end Vof the drain pipe and'iittingabout ,the said tubular portion.
vIaA drainage tting; comprising ay drain pipe, a drainage head having a depending tubular portion provided with vertical ribs on the exterior and fitting within the upper end of the drain pipe, an adjusting ring adjustably secured about the said tubular portion and resting on the upper end of the drain pipe anda seepage ring carried by the adj usting ringand fittingabout thegsaid tubular portion through which vluid may pass to between said tubular portion and the drain ipe. f f p 5. Ina drainage fitting, a drain pipe, a drainage head having a depending tubular portion. fitting within the. drain pipe, the outer diameter of the tubular portion being less than .the inner diameter of:` the drain pipe providing'a, passageway therebetween,r
