This invention relates to underwear supporting devices. Q It is found in'using long underwear, more especially ofthe knit type, that thejunder I wear drawers will stretch between and waistline thereof, permittingthe ,knee portions of the'drawers to'bag and hang down. The underwear wiil then tend to bindabout the crotch of the wearer' and is-also :1 liable to rip and tear thereabouts, particularly when the wearer sits down.
' It is the object of the present invention to provide novel and improved devices to support the leg portions of underwear drawers,
and to prevent undue stretching of the drawers between the crotch and the waistline, thereby eliminating the binding of the under wear about the crotch and also eliminating the possibility of the'ripping or tearing of I 90 the underwear about the crotch.
To these ends, the invention consists in the novel parts and novel combinations of parts,
hereinafter defined in the claims and de-' scribed inthefollowing specification, made ing, wherein like reference characters refer to the same or similar parts' throughout the various views, 'and,-in which, 1

Referring first to the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1,2.and 3,; pair .of long. underwear drawers composed of knit: or othermaterial of the usual type are designated by the numeral 8. In ac cordance with the present invention, I provide a pair of strong straps 9 composed of less stretchablefabric than the material from which the drawers are constructed. These straps are preferably attached at their lower ends'tothefront leg portions of the drawers adjacent and preferably slightly below the crotch portion of thedrawers, by some suitable means as by means of the stitching 10. u The straps 9extend upwardly to above the waist portion of the drawers and the extreme upper ends of the straps are doubled over on the upwardly extending portions thereof and .are stitched by stitching 11 to forma plurality. of spaced loops 12 at the upper ends of the straps. When the draw-- ers 8 having the straps '9 secured thereto, are used in connection with a pair of trousers 13 supported by means of a belt 14 extending around'the waist .of the wearer, as shown in Fig. 2,,the upper ends of the straps 9 will be carried over the upperfedgeof the trousers and the belt 1& will be run through one of the loops 12 in each of the straps'9, so that the straps will depend from and be supported by the belt. As there are a number of loops 12 provided. in each of the straps 9, it will be seen'that the active lengths ofthe straps may be adjusted'for the requirements of dif-. ferent people by running the belt'l through: di-fierentiloops 12. In Fig. 3, trousers 15 j are illustrated as-being supported by s'uswith buttons '17 carried on the inner side of. the. wa-istline portion :of the trousers. When the-trousers are supported by sus-; ponders in this manner, the lower portions ofthe suspenders may be run through'certain ofthe loops 12 of the strapsflbeforelatstraps will relieve the strain on the drawers between the crotch portion thereof and the. waist portion thereof, to prevent'this portion of the garment from stretching to its extreme limit. There will thus be no danger that the garment will. tear] or, break about the crotch portion thereof. Asthe straps will" support, the leg portions of the drawers, the strain on the leg portionsof the garment 3 about. and below the crotch will be lightened or entirely eliminated to prevent thedrawersfrom binding about the crotch and also to prevent. the bagging of the leg portions ofthe garment at the knees of the wearer.
In Fig. .4, a'slightly' different embodiment of. the invention is illustrated, wherein a pair o fdrawers are designated by the numeral18 and detachable'straps formed of less stretchable material than the material forming the drawers are designated by the numeral 19. The front of each leg portion of the drawers 18. may be provided with buttons20 adjacent and preferably a short distance below the crotch, andthe straps 19 will preferably beprovided withbuttonholes.
21 at their lower ends for releasable engagement withthe buttons 20.. The waist portion of the drawers 8. may also be pr0- vided withbuttons 22 and the upper ends of the straps. 19.may be provided with a series of spaced button holes 23. for adjustable engagement of. the upperends ofthe straps. with the buttons .22.v Thestraps 19.-
will be supported from the waistline of the 9 drawers and all advantages above enumerated.
in, connection 'with the use of the Will be attained.
InFig'. 5, a sectional view of aslightlydifferent embodiment of the invention is shown.
straps 9.;
The pair of drawers as shown in Fig. 5, are
designated by. the numeral 24., and a pair of trousersv worn over. the drawers are designated by the numeral 25. Straps 26, similar to the straps 19.illustrated in Fig. 4:, are
provided,.but the button holes ofthese straps are illustrated as being connectedwith sus-. ponder-buttons 27 sewed'to' the waist band portionjofithe trousers. 25. In this form of the invention, the straps will be supported and depend from the waist-portion of the trousers '25, instead of from the waist portion of .thedrawers, as illustrated in Fig. 4.
Another. different embodiment of the insventionisillustrated in Fig. 6. 'Inthis view ofrthe-drawing, a union suit formed of knit or other material is designated by the numeral 28 and straps of less stretchable material than the material forming the drawers are designated by the numeral 29. The straps 29 are sewed at their lower ends to the front leg portions of the garment adjacent and preferablyslightly below the crotch and they are also'sewed tothe garment 28 at the waist portion of the garment. The straps 29 in this embodiment of the invention support the leg'portions of-the garment and prevent the garment 28 from stretching to its extreme limit between the points where the upper and er ends of the straps are secured to the garment.
In Fig one o e emb dimen he vention is illustrated. Part of the frontleg portion o an. underwearga me t s h is natedby the numeral; 3Qand. a strapof less stretchable fabriethan the fabric ofthe gar.- ment is designated-by the numeral. 31, The strap 31;is continuously-sewed to thegarment 30 from a point adjacent andpreferably below the crotch of the garment to a point; adjacent the waistline of the garment.
' It will be seen that the formof-the present invention. can be considerably varied without departing from the scope of the inven tion. The variousstrapsthat are used may either be fixedly r'detaehably secured to the garment at one or bothends and, if desired, adjustment may be permittedat one or'both ends ofthe; straps, I The straps. can also-be supported at their, upper ends adjacent the,
waistline of the wearer in different manthe imderwear between the crotch and the g":
waistline to prevent the samefrom ripping or tearing or binding on the body of the wearer.
' It will, of course, be understood that various modifications and changes may bemade in'the form, details, arrangementandproportions of the various parts withoutdeparte ing from the scope of the present invention. It will. befurther understood that the device can be used. with short underwear drawers as well as .With longunderwear drawers WVhatlis claimed is':.
