This invention relates toclothing, especially to clothing of the type having a leg portion which is provided with an opening in one side for convenience in inserting the foot of a wearer and more particularly to a unitary garment of the type which is fabricated of the garment, for that from more than one kind of material.

A principal object of the invention is to provide a unitary garment of the type spec1- fied which may be made from practically water proof material for that portion of the garment which extends from the foot of the wearer to or just above the knee and of a different material, preferably one of good .heat insulating properties, at least better heat insulating properties than the lower portions portion of the garment extending from the water proof materi- :11 up to the waist of the wearer.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a garment of the type specified which is madeof material adaptable for combination with fastening means of both the slide and snap type.

Other objects and advantages will appear as the description of the particular physical embodiment selected to illustrate the invention progresses and the novel feature of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing the invention in detail and the particular physical embodiment selected to illustrate the invention reference is had to 'the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

The portion 4 of the garment, that is, from the point 5 at or just above the knee to the waist of the wearer is formed of a material, as cotton or wool, of much better heat inproperties than the material of which the lower portion of the leg is formed so that the upper portion of the legs and the lower be kept much more warm and comfortable than would be the case if the entire garment were of water 1y does not have the heat insulating properties of a garment which should be used to conserve the heat of-the wearer, at any rate, the ordinary water proof material, because, probably, its heat conductivity is greater, feels cold to the touch but the material contemplated by applicant for the portion of the garment between the point 5 and the waist will have better insulating properties than the lower portion of the garment and will in addition be substantially less heat conducting and so not feel cold to the touch of a wearer.

The connection between the upper portion 4 and-the lower portion 2 may be made in any of the ordinary and well known ways such as by sewing, as by formingany of the ordinary and well known seams and in additiona tape as 6 may be applied over the seam to strengthen and give a finish.

In order to insure that the garment will remain snugly in engagement with the shoe of the wearer, the instep strap 17 is provided,

fastened at one edge 19 of the opening for L the foot and provided at the other end with one part 20 of a separable snap fastener. The other portion 21 of the separable snap fastener is. attachedto the tab 14. When the place the instep strap 17 is moved into position under the instep and the portion 20 snapped into engagement with the portion 21 so that the garment is thenheld securely in position. By securing the instep stra in this manner, the tab permits .a slight 'yiel ing movement which facilitates the fastening of the parts and'also accommodates itself to thechanging positions of the foot and prevents undue strains on the strap.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is.

A childs unitary garmentadapted to afford protection a ainst cold and dampness comprising in com ination lower leg portions formed of a tough water-proof material, each leg portion being provided with a slot on the outer side from the bottom upwardly through a portion of its length and having fastening means to close the slot, and an leg and body portion formed of a woven fabric having better heat insulating properties than the lower portion, said upper portionbeing provided with a slot closed by a fastening means and extending from the top of the garment along one side into the upper leg portion.
