UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH PAGKSGHER, OF SAN FRANGISOO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRAWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,940, dated March 27, 1877; application filed July 25, 1876.
lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
My invention consists in a new article of manufacture of gentlemens drawers, provided with removable elastic gores, so that said gores may be removed when the articles are washed.
Let A represent a pair of mens drawers. At one or more points in the waist of these drawers I insert a gore, B, which is made of elastic webbing or cloth, and removable by means of laces, a. I also secure an elastic gore, B, in the lower part of each leg of the drawers, so that they will fit closely and easily around the ankle of the wearer. (Laces not shown.)
To insert these gores I first cut out a corresponding portion of the Waist or bottom of the leg, as the case may be, so that the elastic gore can be inserted in place of the portion re moved, thus retaining the ordinary form of the article, and. at the same time rendering the bands capable of extension, so that they will fit the person snugly, thus doing away with the usual straps and buckles heretofore used to tighten the waistband, and the strings and buttons used on the bottoms of drawerlegs.
The elastic gores are inserted so that they can be removed in case it should be desired to do so before the article of clothing is Washed. To do this I bind the piece of elastic webbing as represented at Figure l, and secure eyelets at regular intervals around its edge. I also secure eyelets in the edge of the opening in the Waistband, or other part of the article in which the webbing is to be placed, so that it can be secured by lacing.
Various other devices could be used for securing the elastic webbing in the opening, instead of the lacing,
I thus provide a simple and convenient means of converting a rigid waistband or an kle-band into a snugly-fitting and comfortable elastic band, that will avoid all of the trouble occasioned by back straps, buckles, buttons, and other inelastic fastenings.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- As a new article of manufacture, gentle mens drawers provided with removable elastic gores, as set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
