Description

M. H. POWELL Feb. 14, 1933.
BATHING suI'r Filed Oct. 7, 1931 INVENTOR Mym/i f7. Fozz/d/ BY J ATTQREQ Patented Feb. 14, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MYRON H. POWELL, F IUSKEGbIi', vMICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR r0 AMAZON KNITTING COMPANY, OF MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN ammo son Application filed October 7, 1981. Serial No. 587,400.
The main object of my invention is to provide a bathin suit or a sun-tan arment well adapted for c iildren which is a apted to expose a maximum surface of the body of the wearer to the beneficial rays of the sun orment embodying the desirable features of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar fragmentary view of the lower portion of the garment.
Fig. 3 is a transverse somewhat conventionalized transverse section taken on line -3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a similarly conventionalized transverse section taken on line 44 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a detail of one ofthe lower portions of the garment.
Fig. 6 is a detail of the crotch insert pattern or portion.
Fig. 7 is an enlarged plan view of the reinforced seam which connects portions of the garment.
Referring to the drawing numeral 1 indicates a garment, such as a childs bathing or sun suit, embodying my invention which comprises side portions 2; upper front and back portions 3; and lower front and back portions 4. The side portions 2 and the front and back upper portlons 3 consist of open knit or mesh web material while the lower front and back portions 4 consist of solid or close mesh knit web material.
The front and back portions 4 are split at 5 and opened to receive the crotch insert orticn 6 which is sewed thereto along seams i.
The side portions 2 are connected to the upper and lower front and back portions 3 and 4, respectively, by vertical reinforced scams 8, and the upper and lower front and back body portions 3 and 4 are connected by similar reinforced horizontal seams 9.
The head opening 10, arm openings 11, and leg openings 12 of the garment are bound with tape 13, 14, and 15, respectively, which are connected to the body portions of the garment by reinforced seams 16, 17 and 18, re spectively.
The seams 8 by means of which the open mesh side portions 2 are joined to the front and back open mesh side portions 3 and the front and back closed mesh side portions 4 extend from the neck and sleeve bindings 10 and 11 respectively, to the leg bindings, there-- by providing reinforcing means which hold the garment in shape, notwithstanding the open mesh character of the parts 2, 2 and 3, 3. The close mesh parts 4 serve also to reinforce and strengthen the garment at points Where it is subjected to severe strains and wear in use.
With this arrangement the parts of the garment may be made very attractive in appearance and are especially well adapted for sun or bathing garments. At the same time they are strong and durable. 7
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bifurcated bathing or sun suit comprising open mesh side portions extendin from top to bottom of the garment, front and back upper open mesh portions and front and back lower close mesh portions, said portions bein joined at their adjacent edges by seams, the ront and rear lower portions being conformed and joined to provide a crotch for the garment, reinforcing bindings for the upper edges of the front and back portions and the side portions providing neck and arm holes and shoulder straps, and reinforcing bindings for the legs secured to the lower ends of said side portions and said front and, back lower portions, the longitudinal seams connecting the side portions to the upper and lower front and back portions being reinforced and extending from the shoulder straps to the leg bindings, the seams connecting the upper and lower front and back portions being reinforced and the reinforcing connected to the reinforcing of said longitudinal seams. 2; A, bifurcated bathing or sun suit com- 5 prising open mesh side. portions extendin' from top to bottom of the garment, :Eront an back upper open mesh portions and front and back lower close mesh portions, said portions bein joined at their adjacent edges by seams, 19 the ont and rear lower portions being conformed and joined to provide a crotch for the garment, reinforcing bindings for the u per edges of the front and back rtions an the side portions providing nec and arm holes 13 and shoulder straps, and reinforcing bindings for the legs secured to the lower ends of said side portions and said front and back lower portions, the longitudinal seams connecting the side portions to the upper and lower front 29 and bac portions being reinforced and extending from the shoulder straps to the leg bindings. I 7
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand. MYRON H. POWELL.
