ADJUSTABLE MILK BOTTLE HOLDER FOR CRIBS AND THE LIKE Filed Aug. 3l, 1932 IN'VENTOR ATTORNEY PATENT OFFICE ERNEST J. CARIES ON, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA ADJUSTABLE MILK BOTTLE HOLDER FOR CRIBSAND THELIKE Application filed August 81, 1932. Serial No. 631,200.
The main object of this invention is the provision of a novel device adapted to be mounted on babycarriages, cribs, or the hke, for holding a so-called baby bottle 1n position before the infant so that the bottle Wlll, at all times, be available and ready for the infant to suckle at whenever desired.
Another object of the invention is the provision of such a device with means for rew leasably adjusting and varying the position of the bottle at will.
Still another object of the invention 1s the provision of such a device with means whereb it may be mounted either on one wall 0 thercarriage or crib,- or it may be suspended from the top or opposite walls thereof.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the class described 3% which is adapted to be mounted on opposlte walls of a baby carriage or Cl'lb, and is so constructed that the bottle-holding bracket will be adjustably and releasably positioned at any point between the said opposite walls with a minimum of effort and dlfliculty.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to hke-named parts in the drawing.
Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure 1 is a side View of the device in the form adapted to be fixed on one wall of the CI'lb.
Figure 2 is a view taken on the hue 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure i is a View taken on line H of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a front view of the form of the device which is adapted to be mounted either on the top or on the opposing walls of the crib.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates one of the side rails of a crib, or the like, mounted on a'wall 11. A clamp 12 is securely fastened at any desired position on the rail by means of a thumb screw 13. An arm 14 is dependently rigid with the clamp 12, this arm being hollow and having a rod 15 slidably mounted therein adapted. to be tightened by a thumb screw 16. At the lower end of the rod 15, a cylindrical sleeve 17 is formed which is aligned with a similarly-shaped cylindrical sleeve 18 on the end of a hollow arm 19. A pin 20 extends through the hollow sleeves 17 and 18 and is provided at one end with an enlarged head 21. At itsother end, the pin 20 is provided with a threaded recess adapted to re-' ceive a screw 22 projecting from a knurled nut 23. It is obvious from this description that the arm 19 may be rotated about this pivot and locked in any desired position by tightening the nut 23.
A rod 24: is slidably mounted in the arm 19 and adapted to be locked therein by the thumb screw 26. At one end of the arm 24, a pivot 28 similar to that just described at the lower end of the rod 15, is mounted, and
a rod 29 extends from th1s pivot 28. By means of screws 30, a pair of resilient clamps 31 are mounted on the rod 29 and are adapted to retain a bottle 32. It is obvious from the above that the position of the bottle 32 may be varied in a universal range by rotating the rod 15 within the arm 14, by rotating the arm 19 about the pivot at its right-hand end, by rotating the rod 29 about is pivot 28, and also by lengthening or shortening the brackets 14--15 and 1924 at will.
In the form of device shown in Figures 5 to 8, opposite walls of the crib are indicated at 11 and their rails at 10. Overlapping both of these rails 10 are clamp-like ends 33 00 thumb screw- 37 The arm 36 is provided r with a longitudinal substantially rectangular slot 38 throughout its length and a slot extends from the roof of the slot 38 through the upper surface of the arm 36. The slot 38 is divided into a lower compartment 39 and an upper compartment 43 by means of a slotted plate 40 mounted in the walls of the slot 38 by means of its tapering edges 41 sliding in recesses in said arms. A spring 43 is mounted in the lower co npartment 39 and is shaped as shown in Figure 8 in wave-like form. The plate 41 1s provided with a plurality of spaced-apart recesses 49 through which the upper portions of the crests of the wave-like bends of the spring 42 project without touching the sides of the recess. A cam-like member 44 is slidably mounted between the plate 41 and the roof of the slot 38, and a stem 46 projects upwardly from this cam through the slot 45, terminating in a curved head 47 on the outer surface of a sleeve 50 which is slidably mounted on the rod 36.
Depending from the sleeve 50 is a hollow arm 51 in which a rod 52 is slidably movnted and adjustably locked by means of a thumb screw 53. A rod 55 is attached to the rod 52 by means of a pivot joint 54 similar to the joint 28. Clamps 56 are mounted on the rod 55 for retaining the bottle 32. It is obvious that in order to shift the bottle-holding .site directions from t bracket of Figure 5 from one side to another on the rod 36, the arm 51 need only be grasped in the hand and shifted to the desired position. In doing so, the cam 44 rides over the adjacent crest of the spring 42 and thereby compresses this crest. The compression of this one crest causes the remainder of the sprin to be shifted in oppofie depression point and the spaces between the sides of each crest of the spring and its enclosing recess permit this movement of the spring. It is obvious that little force is required to thus shift the arm 51 and cause compression of the adjacent spring crest. When the arm 51 has been shifted to its desired position, which would preferably be between two adjacent crests of the spring, the latter will rise on either side of the cam and yieldably lock the cam 44 in its new position. Thus, by the use of a slight amount of force the arm 51 and the bottle 32 may be shifted from side to side.
Obviously,. modifications in form and structure may be made without departing extending throughout the len h .of said arm adjacent the axis thereo said arm having a second longitudinal slotextending from the surface of said arm into said first slot and communicating therewith throughout its length, a plate mounted in said first slot dividing the latter into a lower and an upper compartment, said plate having a plurality of spaced-apart recesses therein, a cam slidably mounted in said upper compartprising an arm adapted to be mounted between opposite Walls of a crib or the like a sleeve slidably mounted on said arm and having a bottle-holding bracket attached thereto, said arm having a longitudinal slot extending throughout the length of said arm adjacent the axis thereof, said arm having a second longitudinal slot extending from the surface of said arm into said first slot and communicating therewith throughout its length, a cam slidably mounted in said first slot and having a stem extending through said second slot, means on said stem for preventing rotation of said stem, and resilient means mounted in said first slot for releasably retaining said cam in any longitudinal position in said first slot.

A device of the class described comprising an arm adapted to be mounted between opposite walls of a crib or the like, a sleeve slidably mounted on said arm and having a bottle-holding bracket attached thereto, said arm having a longitudinal slot extending throughout the length of said Patented Mar. 7, 1933 PATENT OFFICE ERNEST J. The main object of this invention is the provision of a novel device adapted to be mounted on babycarriages, cribs, or the hke, for holding a so-called baby bottle in position before the infant so that the bottle will, at all times, be available and ready for the infant to slickle at whenever desired.
Another object of the invention is the provision of such a device with means for releasahly adjusting and varying the position of the bottle at will.
Still another object of the invention 1s the provision of such a device with means whereb it may be mounted either on one wall 0 thecarriage or crib,;or it may be suspended from the top or opposite walls thereof.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the class described which is adapted to be mounted on opposite walls of a baby carriage or crib, and is so constructed that the bottle-holding bracket will be adjustably and releasably positioned at. any point between the said opposite walls 5 with a minimum of effort and difiiculty.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing.
Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure 1 is a side view of the device in the form adapted to be fixed on one wall of the crib.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates one of the side rails of a A is a view taken on line H of crib, or the like, mounted on a'wall 11. A clamp 12 is securely fastened at any desired position on the rail by means of a thumb screw 13. An arm 14 is dependently rigid with the clamp 12, this armbeing hollow and having a rod 15 slidably mounted therein adapted to be tightened by a thumb screw 16. At the lower end of the rod 15, a cylindrical sleeve 17 is formed which is aligned with a similarly-shaped cylindrical sleeve 18 on the end of a hollow arm 19. A pin 20 extends through the hollow sleeves 17 and 18 and is provided at one end with an enlarged head 21. At itsother end, the pin 20 is provided with a threaded recess adapted to receive a screw 22 projecting from a knurled nut 23. It is obvious from this description that the arm 19 may be rotated about this pivot and locked in any desired position by tightening the nut 23. A rod 24; is slidably mounted in the arm 19 and adapted to be locked therein by the thumb screw 26. At one end of the arm 24, a pivot 28 similar to that just described at the lower end of the rod 15, is mounted, and
a rod 29 extends from this pivot 28. By means of screws 30, a pair of resilient clamps 31 are mounted on the rod 29 and are adapted to retain a bottle 32. It is obvious from the above that the position of the bottle 32 may be varied in a universal range by rotating the rod'l5 within the arm 14, by rotating the arm 19 about the pivot at its right-hand end, by rotating the rod 29 about is pivot 28, and also by lengthening or shortening the brackets 14-15 and 19-24 at will.
In the form of device shown in Figures 5 v to 8, opposite walls of the crib are indicated at 11 and their rails at 10. Overlapping both of these rails 10 are clamp-like ends 33 and 33 adapted to be tightened against the rails by means of thumb screws 34. From the clamp 33 a-hollow arm 35 extends horizontally over the top of the rail 10, and a rod 36 is slidably mounted in this hollow arm 35. This arm 36 is rigid with and at right-angles t0 the other clamp 33 and has its free end slidably adjustable in the arm 35, being locked in position by means of the thumb screw 37.
