in its side wallsand provided with means I for strengthening the receptacles when they are tiered in crates or the like.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a fibre box'which may be waterproofed or which may be constructed of treated fibre board in order that it may withstand the moisture content of the merchandise placed therein.

In accomplishing these and other objects of the invention, I have provided improved details of structure, the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accompanyin drawings, wherein:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a berry box constructed in accordance with my invention.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the box on the line 2-2, Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a plan view of a blank from which the box in Fig. 1 is formed. 1

Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view through a modified form wherein all four sides thereof arev doubled for strengthening the box.

Fig. 5 is a plan view of a blank for forming another modified form of box employing a double bottom as well'as double sides.

Referring more in detail tothe drawings:

1 designates a blank preferably stamped from waterproofed fibre board and includes a rectangular central area 2 scored to form fold lines 3, 4. 5, and 6 defining the bottom of the box. Extending from the portion 2 are wings 7, 8, 9 and 10 which are adapted to be folded laterally thereof to form the sides of the box as'shown in Fig. 1.

The wings are provided with foot portions 11 and 12 respectively, stamped from the bottom portion 2 and adapted to extend in the plane of the wings and at substantially right angles to thebottom 2 when 'tion through the ends of t the wings are bent to form the sides of the box as clearly shown in- Figs. 1 and 2.

The wings 7 and 9 are preferably provided with end flaps 13 and 14: defined by angularly extending score lines 15 and .16 overlapping the inner faces of the wings 8 and 10 when the blank is folded to form the box.

The ends of the wings 8 and 10 are cut at an angle as at 17 complementary to the angle of the score lines 15 and 16 to separate the flaps 13 and 14 therefrom and to effect angular position of the wings 7 and 9, so that the sides of the box 8 and 10 are flared complementary to the sides 7 and 9.

Formed integrally on the outer edges ofthe wings 8 and 10 and separated therefrom by score lines 18 and 19 are reinforcing wing portions 20 and '21 complementary in shape to the wings 8 and 10 so that when the wings 20 and 21 are folded over the flaps 13 and 14 and against the wings 8 and 10 they form a double wall structure and retain the end flaps 13 and 14 clamped thereunder to prevent collapseof the box.

In order to lock the reinforcing win 'ssecurely in position the outer edges 0 the wings 20-and 21 are provided respectively with projecting tabs -22 and 23, complementary to the foot portions 11 and 12, which are received in slots 24 and 25 formed in the bottom portion 2 incidental tothe cutting out of the foot portions and folding-of the side wings into functional position. Thus the tabs 22 and 23 not only lock the reinforcing wings but they also stifi'en and strengthen the foot portions to support the bottom of the box and provide for air cirizpulation thereunder, as clearly shown in The side wings 7 and 9 of the box are preferably provided with a plurality of ver-' tically formed ventilating slots 26 and the wing members 1020 and 821 are provided with similar slots for lproviding ventilae box. If desired additional openings may be provided in the bottom portion 2 to provide ventilation and drainage through the bottoms of the boxes. I It is apparent, however, that the ventilating openings may vary in shape and size to suit the needs of the box without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In folding a box blank constructed as shown in Fig. 3, the side wings 7, 9, 10 and 8 are bent laterally, and the flaps 13 and 14 are folded on the score lines 15 and 16 to lie against the inner faces of the wings 8 and 10. The wing portions 20 and 21 are then folded on the score lines 18 and 19 to overlie the flaps and the tabs 22 and 23 are in serted in the slots 24 and 25 in the bottom of the box to lock the reinforcing wings in posltion and reinforce the foot portions of the box.

' In Fig. 5 is illustrated a box blank similar to the blank used in constructing the box shown in Fig. 4 except that one of the reinforcing wings is provided with an extending portion 31 complementary in shape and size to the bottom portion 2, the outer and side edges 32 and 33 of which are provided with notches 34 conforming in shape and relation to the slots in the bottom 2 and theattached edge 35 is provided with the U-shaped cuts 36 and 37 to form the locking tabs. In folding the blank the portion 31 is folded to lie flat against the bottom 2 as shown in Fig 6 and the locking tabs are inserted in the notches and extended through the slots produced in the bottom 2 of the box as in the preferred form.

Thus the box may be provided with a double bottom as well as double walls to forma more rigid box structure to better withstand the moist conditions to which berry lected sides of .the box, reinforcing wings on the remaining sides of the box for overlying the flaps, and tabs on said wings received in said openings to reinforce the footportions.

flaps on selected sides of the box, retaining wings on the remaining sides of the box for overlying the flaps, and'tabs on the retaining wings for locking the retaining wings in flap-retaining position and reinforcing the foot portions.

4. A box of the character described including a bottom, sides associated with the bottom, foot portions-on the sides for spacing the bottom, flaps on selected sides of the box, retaining wings on the sides for overlapping the flaps, a second bottom carried by one of the wings to form a double bottom for the box, and tabs on the retaining wings to lock said wings in flap retaining position and to reinforce said foot portions.

What I claim and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is:

1. A box of the character described including a bottom having tab-receiving openings, sides integral with the bottom, foot portions on the sides stamped from the bottom to form said openings, reinforcing wings on the sides,

and tabs on the reinforcing wings received in said openings for locking said wings in functional position.
