1 marks the brush portion of the broom and 2 the handle. t
The cleaning cover has a yoke 3 with an opening 4 adapted to receive a broom handle. It preferably makes a comparatively tight fit on the upper portion of the broom. The elasticity of the broom itself facilitates this. The yoke is provided with flaps 5. These are separated at the bottom and at least a portion of the sides, preferably the full length of the side edges. The flaps are of a length to extend below the bottom of the broom so that these flaps may be folded around the bottom for use. Each flap has a cord 6 which is secured along the bottom edge of the flap and extends from the side edges of the flap. After the yoke is drawn into place on the upper 0; part of the broom one of the flaps is folded over the bottom of the broom andsecured by the cord 6, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. Then the opposite flap is folded over the first flap and the fold is secured by its cord, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
With this arrangement the cleaning edge of the broom has a double thickness of cleaning cloth and is backed by the comparatively resilient brush portion of the broom. It, therefore, affords a yielding cleaning material and the broom itself tends to spread it so as to cover "considerable surface.
out and when this is done both flaps again may be used in the manner just above suggested. So that in all the structure affords four surfaces which may be brought to the cleaning position.
In'certain types of cleaning, as for instance, walls,
it may be desirable to roll one flap so as to form a rib protruding from the side of the broom adjacent to the lower edge of the broom. By then drawing the other flap around the bottom of the broom and enclosing this roll, or rib, a very desirable arrangement is afforded for reaching into corners and over doors and into molding.
If desired the flaps 5 may be detachably secured to the yoke. 3 by snap fasteners '7, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. With this arrangement new flaps may be readily attached to the yoke to take care of wear, or for changing the flaps. The snap fasteners provide means whereby the flaps may be readily changed with the yoke in place.
What I claim as new is:
1. A cleaning cover for brooms comprising a yoke adapted. to fit over .the top of a broom and having an opening at the top for a broom handle; flaps extending from the yoke and adapted to extend along the opposite sides of the broom, said flaps being separated a substantial distance from the bottom of the cover, each flap being of a length to form a fold around the bottom of an inserted broom and over the other flap; and means for detachably securing a flap to the broom when it is folded around the bottom of the broom.
2. A cleaning cover for brooms comprising a yoke adapted to fit over the top of a broom and having an opening at the top for a broom ban-'- dle; flaps extending from the yoke and adapted to extend along the opposite sides of the broom,
said flaps being separated a substantial distance folded around the bottom of the broom.
3. A cleaning cover for brooms comprising a yoke adapted to fit over the top of a broom and having an opening at the top for a broom handle; flaps extending from the yoke and adapted to extend along the opposite sides of the broom, said flaps being separated a substantial distance from the bottom of the cover, each flap being of a length to form a fold around the bottom of an inserted broom and over the other flap; and means for securing each of the flaps to the to extend along the opposite sides of the broom,; said flaps being separated a substantiaidi'stance;
from the bottom of the cover, each flap being of a length to form a, fold around the bottom of an inserted broom and over the other flap; and reversible securing means for securing each of the flaps to the broom when they are folded around the bottom of the broom.
