IMPROVEMENT lN BARBERS SHEARS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 193,7235, dated July 31, 1877; application filed July 7, 1877.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM REED, of Geneva, in the county of Adams and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Barbers Scissors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a representa tion of a perspective view of my scissors, and Fig. 2 is a detail of the same.

The nature of my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of barbers scissors combined with an adjustable comb-holder, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.

A and B represent the two blades of a pair of scissors such as are used by barbers. The lower blade A is secured near its inner end to an arm, U, extending from it at right angles, and from the upper end of said arm projects a handle, D, as shown.

The two blades A B are pivoted together at a, the upper blade B projecting a suitable distance beyond said pivot; and from the end of this projecting part of said blade extends a short post, E, upward, the upper end of said post being formed with a teuon, b, which passes into a longitudinal slot, d, in a lever, G, as shown. p

This lever is pivoted in a forked arm, H, projecting from the arm 0. The inner end of the lever G is curved, as shown, and provided with a ring, I, for the insertion of the thumb to work the movable blade B, while the hand grasps the handle D.

J represents the comb-holder, consisting of a straight arm located under the stationary blade A, and havinga groove, 6, in its front edge, extending the entire length thereof. The back of the comb is to be inserted in this groove, and may be held therein by any suitable or convenient means.

The comb-holder J is permanently secured to a longitudinally-slotted arm, L, which fits in a longitudinal groove made in the arm 0, and held therein by means of a set-screw, h.

the pivoted lever G, with slot 01 and thumb ring I, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.

2. The adjustable comb-holder J, with slotted arm L, in combination with the scissors A B, arm O, and set-screw h, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
