Description

W. H. LEWIS. Picture Exhibitors.
Patented OCT. 9, 1877.
N, PETERS, FNOTO-UTHOGRAFNER, WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM E1. LEWIS, OF BROOKLYN, E. D. NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO E. AND
H. T. ANTHONY & (30.,
OF NEW YORK CITY.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,027, dated October 9, 1877 application filed December 20, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. LEWIS, of Brooklyn, E. D., in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Banner Picture-Holders, of which the following is a specification:
This improvement is to lessen the expense of the banner picture-holder, and to render the same very durable and ornamental.
I make use of a metallic base, into the cen' ter of which is secured a wooden standard, with a spear or ornament on the top, and a cord passing to' the ends of the cross-piece or picture-holding bar. The picture-holder and picture are suspended from the bar.
There is a notch and hole at each end of the picture-holding bar, and the cord is inserted through the notch, and secured, by glue or oement, into the hole, and the shank of an end ornament enters the same hole and aids in securing the suspending-cord firmly.
In the drawing, Figure lis an elevation of the pictureholder, with the base and one end of the picture-holding bar in section; and Fig. 2 represents the notched end of the banner-holding bar.
The metallic base a is made with three legs or bearing-points, and in the center is a screwhole, for receiving the lower end of the wooden standard I), so that the parts can be separated for packing.
At the upper end of the stafi or standard I) is an ornament or spear-head, c, with a tang or shank driven into the hole bored at the end of the wood, and from this spear depends the cord 6.
The banner-holding bar f is of a length adapted to the hollow holder 9, in which is the opening through which the picture is visible, and this bar and picture-holder are suspended by the cord 6.
At each end of the bar f there is a hole, and also a notch above the hole, as at i, so that the cord 6 can be passed into the hole in the bar and secured by glue; and it will lie in the notch so that the end ornament I will set closely against the end of the bar. The shank or tang of this end ornament 1 passes into the same hole as the cord 0, and is secured by the adhesive material used with the cord.
I claim as my invention- The banner picture-holder, consisting of the metallic base a, the wooden standard 0, from which is suspended, by the cord 0, the holding-bar f, such cord being secured into the notched ends of said bar by means of the metallic ornaments l, substantially as set forth.
Signed by me this 16th day of December, A. D. 1876.
WM. H. LEWIS.
