My invention relates to a golfers kit, and has particular reference to an improved special receptacle for containing or carrying a collection of accessories, necessaries and/or personal eifects I55 constituting a part of the equipment and conveniences generally used by golfers.

It is an object of my invention to provide a kit or receptacle which may, if desired, be permanently secured to a golf bag, said kit or receptacle 3 affording a sturdy, compact and eflicient 'means for carrying golf tees, score cards, scoring pencils, personal effects, smoking equipment, and the like accessories and conveniences usually carried by persons playing thegame of golf.

It is a further object of my invention to provide a special kit or receptacle for carrying and protesting the necessary equipment and personal effects of golfers, which kit comprises a box-like structure including means whereby the golf tees, 2'0 score card and scoring pencil are readily accessible and removable from the exterior of the boxlike structure and means, such as a movable or removable cover plate,'through whichaccess may be readily had to the smoking equipment, personal effects or other articles within the box-like structure. Y

It is a further object of myinvention to provide a golfers'kit comprising a box-like structure including means for individually retaining a plurality of golf tees therein and a compartment adapted to retain cigars, cigarettes or other personal effects, and to associate with this box-like structure a removable cover plate including a latch for 'detachably securing the'cover plate to box and means for retaining a box or package of matches, a score 'cardand a scoring pencil to the said cover plate. 7 I It is a still further object of my invention to provide a device of the above mentioned char"- acter that is simple in construction, cheap and easy to manufacture, strong, compact and durabio, and highly efiicient inthe purposes for which designed. 1

The holes 5-through the side 3 are preferably staggered with respectlto. the holes 5 through the side, 4*. One end of the trough-like structure thus formed is closed by an end plate 6' having a flange 7 'eXtend-ingfrom three of its four edges to engage the outer surface of the ends of the: bottom portion -2 and side portions 3 and 4, it being noted that the flanges at the sides of the end plate: 6 are extended and are turned inwardly, as indicated at 8,. to engagethe inner surface of the sides 3 4.5 'Theend plate 6. is secured to the body portion of. the boxv by means to be hereinafter described.v The end of the said trough-like structure opposite the endplate 6, is closed by an end plate 9- having a flange 10 extending from three of its four edges to engage the outer surface .of the endsof the bottom portion 2v and sideportions 3 and 4, the flange 10 corresponding indepth to the flange: '7 of theend plate 6 to give a finished and, uniform appearance 'to the kit. The metal at the fourth or front edge ofthe end plate 9 is bent at right angles to the said plate, and extends downward-1y a distance coextensive with the flange- 10 to. form a front wall 11, the material at this edge then being turned inwardly to forma wall 12- disposed in parallel spaced relation to the topof the end plate'9. A slot or opening-13 is then formed in the central portion of the wall 11 by slitting the metal and turning the same inwardly at an angle, as clearly indicated at 14. It is to be noted that the wall 12 terminates short of the rear flange 10 of the end plate 9, as shown in Fig. 3 of the accompanying drawings. If desired, a name plate 15 may be riveted or otherwise secured to the top surface of the plate 9 to receive thereon the owners initials, or the manufacturers name, trade-mark or other data.

The end plates 6 and 9 are each provided with a pair of alined openings adapted to receive long, slender bolts 16 provided at their lower ends with nuts 17, by means of which the end plates 6 and 9 are retained in fixed relation to the troughlike structure, these bolts 16 being parallel to and spaced a substantial distance from the bottom 2 of the box-like structure. Each of the bolts 16 is surrounded by a relatively thin, flexible or collapsible tube 18 of rubber or the like, the bore of these tubes being considerably greater than the diameter of said bolts. The external diameter of the tubes 18 is of such dimension as to extend partially across the staggered openings 5 in each of the sides 3 and 4. The kit is provided with a false bottom or partition 19 which bears against the tubes 18 and keeps them eccentrically disposed with respect to the bolts 16, that is, a portion of the material of the tube 18 is clamped against the bolts 16 by the partition 19, with the remainder of the said tube free to be flexed or compressed by the shank of a golf tee inserted through the opening 5, to thus frictionally engage the shank of the tee to prevent said tee from slipping or dropping out of the opening 5, but permitting its ready withdrawal when desired.

Portions of the upper and lower edges of the partition 19 are bent at right angles to the partition, as indicated at 20 and 21,"to maintain the saidpartition 19 in proper spaced and parallel relation to the bottom 2 of the kit. A pair of spacedattaching bolts 22 and 23 pass through the partition 19 and screw into suitable threaded apertures in the bottom portion '2, and suitable spacing sleeves 24 surround each of the bolts and aredisposed between the partition 19 and bottom 2. These bolts pass outwardly beyond the rear face of the bottom 2 and through holes cut or punched in the golf bag 25, a plate 26, washers 2'7 and nuts 28 being provided for cooperation 7 with the said bolts for rigidly clamping the kit to the golf bag '25, preferably near the top portion of the bag and in a position just to the right or to the left of the carrying strap or handle of said bag. The inner edge of the wall 12 and the upper edge of the partition 19 are notched to receive therein a pencil sharpener 29 of conventional construction, the top plate 9 being provided with an aperture 30 through which a pencil may be inserted within the inclined bore of the sharpener, 29. Preferably a thin, flat cross-bar 31 is riveted, welded or otherwise secured to the forward edges of the side portions 3 and 4 of the box-like portion 1 of the kit, this cross bar functioning to retain within the kit, a package of of cigarettes 32, or cigars 33, or other articles placed within rear, upper edge of the cover plate 34 by means of screws or rivets 3'7, and is bent to extend at right angles to the rear face of said plate and then bent upon itself, as clearly shown in the accompanying drawings, to form a spring latch 38 having tapered side edges, this latch, when the cover plate is placed on the box, entering the opening 12 in the front wall 11 of the top plate 9 and frictionally engaging the top, bottom and resilient side walls immediately behind said opening, to detachably connect the front plate 34 to the box-like structure 1 of the kit. The said metal strip extends above the upper edge of the plate 34 and is bent to form a spring loop 39, that portion of the strip disposed in front of thecover plate constituting a spring finger and being gradually tapered and terminating in an outwardly turned portion 40 which bears against the central, front portion of the plate 34 and assists in retaining the score card or cards 36 in position on the front face of said plate. Intermediate the spring loop 39 and end portion 40, the said strip is provided with side extensions 41 which are bent at right angles to the strip to form a resilient pencil clip for receiving and retaining a scoring pencil 42, the clip and the pencil carried thereon constituting a convenient handlelike projection which may be engaged by the fingers to assist in removing the cover plate from the box-like structure 1.

The lower portion of the rear face of the cover plate 34 may, if desired, be plated with a suitable metal to constitute a mirrored surface 43. Between the upper edge of the mirrored surface just described and the spring latch 38, the rear face of the cover plate 34 is provided with a novel clip 44,101' supporting or retaining box or package of matches. This match-retaining clip 44-is made of sheet metal and is attached to the rear of the plate by Welding, rivets or the like. This clip is of a width corresponding approximately to the width of a standard box of safety matches, so that when the free end of the clip is inserted between the bottomof the box and the cover therefor and the box moved sidewardsthe box will be supported on the clip and thus retained on the rear of the plate 34.;111 order that the clip may be made to retain the small sized boxes of safety matches, the said clip is provided with a pair of spaced,

parallel slots 45 and 46, the width of the metal 47 j between these slots being approximately the width of the standard, small size boxes of safety matches. When'it is desired to attach one of the small sized boxes of safety matches to the rear face of the cover plate, the free end of the portion 47 is inbe seen that this clip is so constructed as to constitute a sup-port for either the large or small sized boxesof safety matches, and further, the clip can also be utilized to support a paper packet of safety matches 48 such as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 10 of the accompanying drawings, the use of such a packet being especially desirable when or conveniences-usually carriedby golfers A partioularadvantage resides' i'n the fact that by myi'mproved construction, the golf tees, score card and scoring pencil arereadily accessible from the outside oitlle kit, and the articles within the box 'arenormally protected but-may be-rcnderedaccessible by removal ofthefront plate or cover. Further, the association o-tthe 1 sharpener with the :kit provides auseful adjunct tov the collection of accessories,;necessaries and/ or personal efiects constituting a part the equip ment and conveniences generally used by golfers. The use of my improved kit will tendto keep dirty, perspiring hands out of the golferspockets, and will thus help keep thergolfers togs clean.

It is to be understood that the term of my invention herein shown anddcscribed is to be taken as the preferred embodiment'of the-:same, and that various changes may.

made in the: size arrangement of parts without depart ig from the spirit oithe invention or the the subjoined claims;= For-example, it is. not es sential to the carrying out of my invention that the kit be mounted on a golf bag, Ob'IlfilF-h; the device may be mounted on awaist-encircling belt, or other form of support. Further, it is not essential that the box-like structure be constructed in; the identical manner herein shown and described. and, obviously, the construction of. the several-features of the device such as the attaching means, latch, score card retaining means, penoil clip, match box or packet retaining-means, tee retainingv means, etc,v may be modified to accomplish thesame or substantially the same results.

Having thus described my invention, I clai-m:- 1. A golfers kit comprising a box-like structure 1 having anjopening through one of its walls,- and a compressible member within the box and behind saidopening for frictionally engaging the shank of a golf tee inserted through the opening to retain said tee within said opening but permitting its ready removal therefrom.

2. A golfers kit comprising a box-like structure having an opening through one of its walls, a compressible tube within the box, and means for securing the tube in a position behind the opening to be compressed by the shank of a golf tee insertedthrough the opening to frictionally' retain said tee within said opening but permitting it's ready; removal therefrom. V

3. A golfers: kit comprising a box-like structure having an opening through-one of its walls, a belt extending through the box-like structure and adjacent the opening, and a compressibletube surrounding said bolt to'be engaged by the shank of a golf tee inserted through the opening to frictionally retain said teewithih said opening but pormittingv its ready removal therefrom; 1

L-A golfers kit comprising a box l'ike structure l'ravi'ng openingthrough one of its walls, a bolt extending through the box-like structure and adjacent the opening, a compressible tube surrounding the bolt and having a bore of greater diameter than the diameter of said bolt, and means engaging the tube for maintaining a portion of the tube iii-contact with the bolt and the tube in a position tobe compressed by the shank of a golf tee inserted through the opening to frictionally retain said tee within the opening by permitting its ready removal therefrom.

A golfers kit comprising a box-like structure having an opening through one of'its side walls near the bottom thereof, a bolt extending through the box-like structure and above the opening, a compressible tube surrounding'the bolt and having a bore of greater diameter than the diameter or the bolt, and a partition orfalse bottom Within the box-like structure overlying the bolt and tube and engaging the tube for main taining a portion-oi the tube in contact with the bolt and the tube in a position to be compressed by the shank of a gol ftee; inserted through the opening to frictionally retain said tee within the opening but permitting its ready removal therefrom. 1

A golfers kit comprising a box having bottom, side and end walls, a false bottom within said box, means for maintaining said false bottom in parallel spaced relation from the box bottom, means between said false bottom and box bottom for retaining a plurality of golf tees, and a removable cover plate or top for the box.

Agolfers ki't comprising a bottom and spaced upstanding side walls constituting a trough-like structure, one of said walls having an opening near the bottom thereof, end wallsf'or said troughlike' structure, a bolt. connecting the end walls to the bottom and side walls to term a box-like structure, said bolt extending above the bot-- tom and adjacent the opening, a compressible tube surrounding said bolt to be engaged by the shank of a golf tee inserted through the opening to retain said tee within said opening but permitting its ready removal therefrom, a false bottom within the box-like structure overlying the bolt and its surrounding. tube, and avremovable coverplate' or top for the box-like structure.

A golfers kit comprising a bottom and spaced upstandingside walls constituting a trough-like structure, each. of said. side Wallshaving a series of spaced openings near the. bottom. portions thereof, end wallsfor said trough-like structure, a pair of spaced parallel bolts connecting the end walls to the bottom and side walls to form a box like structure, each of said bolts extending above the bottom and adjacent one of the series of openings in the side Walls, a compressible tube surrounding each of the bolts to be engaged by the shanks of golf tees inserted through the adjacent openings to retain the tees within said openings but permitting their ready removal therefrom, a false bottom within the box-like structure andoverlying the bolts and their surrounding tubes, a bolt extending through the false bottom and into threaded engagement with an aperture in the bottom of the'box-like structure to maintain said false bottom in contact with the compressible tubes, and a removable cover plate or top for the box-like structure.

9; A golfers kit comprising a box-like structure, one wall of which includes a flange having an opening therethrough, a removable cover plate for said box-like structure and a spring latch carried by said removable cover plate to engage within said opening to frictionally retain the cover plate on the box-like structure.

10. A golfers kit comprising a box-like structure, a removable cover plate therefor, means for detachably securing said cover plate on the box-like structure, and a clip attached to the cover plate to retain a scoring pencil thereon, said clip-being formed to constitute a handle-like projection to assist in removing the cover plate from the box-like structure.

11. A golfers kit comprising a box-like structure, a removable cover plate therefor, means for detachably securing said cover plate on the box-like structure, and a spring finger overlying the front face of said cover plate and having its free end bearing on the front surface of the cover plate to retain a score card thereon, said spring finger being formed to constitute a handlelike projection to assist in removing the cover plate from the box-like structure.

A golferskit comprising a box-like structure, one wall of which includes an inturned flange having an opening therethrough; a removable cover plate for said box-like structure; and a strip, of spring metal secured intermediate its ends to a face of the cover plate and having one end overlying the frontface of said cover plate with itsfree end bearing on the front surface of the cover-plate to retain a score card box-like structure, a spring finger overlying the pencil thereon, aid clip being formed consti thereon, and its opposite end formed to constitute a spring latch positioned at the rear face of saidcover plate and adapted to enter the opening-in the inturned flange of the box-like structure to detachably connect the said cover plate to said box-like structure.

'13. A golfers kit comprising a box-like structure, a removable cover plate therefor, means for detachably securing said cover plate on said front face of said cover plate and having its free end bearing on the front surface of the cover plateto v retain a" score card thereon, and a clip carried by the spring, finger to retain a scoring spring latch at the rear of the cover plate engageable within the opening to frictionally retain the cover plate on the box-like structure,

and the opposite end of said strip being bent to form a spring finger overlying the front face of said cover plate, the free end of said spring finger bearing on the front surface of the cover plate to retain a score card thereon.

15. A golfers kit comprising a box-like .struc ture, one wall of which includes an inturned flange having an opening therethrough, a removable cover plate for said box-like structure, and a strip of spring metal secured to the cover plate, one end of said strip being bent to form a spring latch at the rear of the cover plate engageable within the opening to frictionally retain the cover plate on the box-like structure, and the opposite end of said strip being bent to form a spring loop terminating in a finger overlying the front face of said cover plate, the free end of said finger bearing on the front surface of the cover plate to retain a score card thereon, said spring finger having side extensions bent to form a resilient clip for retaining a scoring pencil on the front face of the cover plate, said side extensions providing handle-like projections to assist in removing the cover plate from the boxlike structure.

A golfers kit comprising a box-like structure, a partition within the box and spaced from the bottom thereof, a bolt passing through the partition and extending beyond the bottom of the box and through an opening in a golf bag or other supporting structure to attach the box to the same, and a spacing sleeve surrounding the bolt between the partition and box bottomto retain the partition in spaced parallel relation to the box bottom.

'17. A golfers kit comprising a box-like structure, a removable cover plate for said box-like structure, and a match container retaining clip carried by the said removable cover plate, said clip comprising a strip of metal having one edge thereof attached to the cover plate, the unattached portion of said strip being adapted to pass between the cover and bottom of a match container to retain the said match container on the said removable cover plate. 1

18. A golfers kit comprising a box-like'structure having a match box retaining clip mounted thereon, said clip comprising a strip of metal having one edge attached to the box-like structure, the unattached portion of said strip corresponding in width to the width of a standard large size box of safety matches and being provided with a pair of spaced, parallel slots, the portion of the strip between the slots corresponding in Width to the width of a standard small size box of safety matches, whereby-the entire unattached portion of the strip may be inserted between the cover and bottom' of a large size box of safety matches to retain said box on the clip, or the unattached portion of the strip between the spaced, parallel slots may be inserted between the cover and bottom of a small size box of safety matches to retain said box on the clip, or the unattached portions of the strip may be inserted within a paper match packet to retain said packet on the clip.
