This invention relates to a ladys boot of the type known as a Russian boot.

It is an object of this invention to produce a boot which is suitable for ordinary street wear and which conforms neatly and comfortably to the foot and leg' of the wearer.

' it is a further object of this invention to produce a boot which hugs the wearers leg firmly at the upper margin of the boot, and which at the same time may be taken off and put on the wearer quickly and with great ease.

. Another object of this invention resides in the simplicity of construction, low production cost and highly stylish eiiect of a boot having the foregoing properties.

These and other objects of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring in detail to the drawing the boot 10 is seen to comprise a foot portion having the vamp 11, with an upwardly projecting portion 11a as shown, quarters12,'heel 13 and outsole 14. Integral with the quarters 12 is the leg portion 15. The vamp, quarters, and leg portion are preferably made of patent leather, although other suitable materials may be used.

-A top band having an outer layer 21 of. a suitable pile fabric such as velvet, velveteen, or the like has sewed to it on the inner side thereof a band 22 of elastic webbing, by the lines of stitches 23 and 24. The webbing is cut so that its length unstretched is about 20% less than the length of the layer 21. This webbing is then stretched to the length of the latter and is sewed thereto while in this condition. As a result when the tension is released on the band 22 it retracts and causes the layer 21 to assume a gathered condition as shown in the drawing. This band so prepared is now sewed to the upper periphery of the boot leg by stitches 25.

Now with the vamp, quarters, leg portion and band joined together a suitably shaped unitary boot lining 30 is stitched to the top margin of the band by the stitches 31, after which the usual rear seam (not shown) is formed. The lining is made of any suitable fabric, preferably one having a fleece finish. The assembled foot and leg portion with its attached lining is lasted, and the outsole and heel are then attached. The usual finishing operations are finally performed.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. A Russian boot comprising in combination a foot portion, a leg portion joined thereto, a band joined to the top of said leg portion, said band being elastic, and a. boot lining joined to the top of said band andlasted in with said foot portion.

2. A Russian boot comprising in combination a foot portion, a leg portion joined thereto, a band joined to the top of said leg portion, said band being elastic, and a unitary boot lining joined to the top of said band.

3. A Russian boot comprising in combination a foot portion, said foot portion having an upwardly extending projection at the instep thereof,

a leg portion joined to said foot portion, a band joined to the top of said leg portion said band having an elastic member, and a boot lining joined to the top of said band and lasted in with said foot portion.

A Russian boot comprising a foot portion, a leg portion extending a substantial distance above the wearers ankle and terminating below the wearers knee, and a wide circumierentiallyelastic band having a lower peripheral edge portion secured to said leg portion, and an upper peripheral edge portion terminating below the wearers knee, said band adapted to hug the leg of the wearer below the knee, said elastic band comprising elastic webbing and a covering layer secured thereto.

A Russian boot comprising a foot portion, a leg portion extending a substantial distance above the wearers ankle, and terminating below the wearers knee, and a wide circumferentially-elastic band having a lower peripheral edge portion secured to said leg portion, and an upper peripheral edge portionterminating below the wearers knee, said band adapted to hug the leg of the wearer below the knee, said elastic band comprising elastic webbing and a covering layer of substantially inextensible material stitched to said elastic webbing when the latter is under tension whereby said covering layer' is gathered when the tension on said webbing is released.

A Russian boot comprising a foot portion, a circumferentially-continuous leg portion extending a substantial distance above the wearers ankle and terminating below the wearers knee, and a wide circumferentially-elastic band having a peripheral edge portion secured to said 1 leg portion, and a. peripheral edge portion terminating below the wearers knee when in raised position andadapted to hug the leg of the wearer, said band comprising elastic material and a cov- 5 ering layer secured thereto.

7. A Russian boot comprising a foot portion and a circumferentially-continuous leg portion having a leg opening terminating at its upper end and below the wearers knee, and a wide circumfer-
