This invention relates to improvements in aprons, particularly adapted, though not necessarily limited in its use for ladies, and is so designed that when worn, the body of the garments will not only be protected, but the apron is provided with a collar in the nature of a flap or bib which is adapted to be folded over the edge of the neck yoke of the apron and tucked beneath the garment, between the garment and body of the wearer, so as to encase and protect the collar and yoke of the garment from injury by powder, cosmetics, etc., during the application thereof and also during ablutions.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will not only serve as an apron but it is also provided with pockets specially shaped and arranged to receive and hold toilet articles and accessories in convenient position for the wearer of the apron, and which apron when removed may be folded or rolled in the manner of a toilet or traveling case, and fastened by a suitable means to facilitate transportation and at the same time provide a compact package. The apron is adapted to be readily folded and unfolded when desired and put on or taken off without disturbing the toilet articles, and with the toilet articles in position ready for use.

To the attainment of these ends and the accomplishment of other new and useful objects as will appear, the invention consists in the features of novelty in substantially the construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings illustrating this invention, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of an apron of this character constructed in accordance with; the principles of this invention.

The apron consists essentially of a front member 10 and back member 11 connected together along one end and is shaped to form a neck opening 12, the ends of the front and back members being separated at one side as at 13, to 55 facilitate in applying and removing the apron and button-holes 17.

When the apron is applied, it is opened at one 2'0 edge and the edges are then fastened together. The bib or collar 18 is then folded over the edge of the neck opening 12 and the binding 17 as shown more clearly in Figure 3, so that it may be tucked under the garment 21 and between '75 the garment 21 and the body of the wearer, so as to encase the neck opening and edge of the garment to protect the latter.

The front and rear members of the apron may, if desired, be of the same size or length, or the rear member 11 may, if desired, be shorter than the front member. Secured to one of the members, such as the member 11, are buttons 22 which are adapted to be received by buttonholes 23 in the other member for securing the 5 lateral edges of the body members together.

If desired, binding or tape 24 may be secured around the edges of both the front and rear members.

Secured to the rear face of one of the memher, such as the front member 10 and preferably intermediate its ends, is a flexible member, such as tape or ribbon 25 and is of a length that when the apron is being worn it will not only be concealed but will not project below the lower 9 edge of the member to which it is secured.

Pockets 26 are carried by the front face of the front member and preferably extend across the member, while additional pockets 27 may be arranged above the pockets 26 to extend in general directions lengthwise of the body member.

These pockets may be formed in any desired or suitable manner and may be of any desired and suitable size and shape, and are so positioned that when toilet articles 28 are placed in the respective pockets, they will be in convenient positions for the operators use and so that ready access may be had thereto.

With this improved construction it will be manifest that when the apron is being worn and thef bib or collar 18 folded over the edge of the garment and tucked beneath the garment, the garment will be fully protected against being soiled during ablutions or while cosmetics are being applied, as well as while the hair is being dressed, and if desired, the apron may be worn for other purposes with the bib or collar on the outside.

When the apron is being worn, it will be manifest that the toilet articles will be held in the pockets and the. apron will form or constitute a toilet case or kit, thereby obviating the necessity of laying the toilet articles down upon a table or basin.

After the apron has served its purpose and while the toilet articles are in the various pockets, the apron may be readily removed and folded in any suitable manner, with the back member either folded over the front or against the rear of the front member and then the side edges may be folded laterally, as shown in Figure 5 of the drawings, so as to cover as'well as fold the pockets. After the apron has been folded in the manner shown in Figure 5, it may be then folded or rolled lengthwise as shown in Figure 6, to form a compact toilet or traveling case. When the apron is rolled or folded as shown in Figure 6, the flexible fastening device or tie string 25 will be exposed and the ends of the same may be tied or fastened together, as shown in Figure 6, to maintain the apron in its folded position.

With this improved construction it will be manifest that there is not only provided a very useful as well as serviceable combination of apron and toilet case, but the toilet articles will be held in convenient position for the operator's use, and when the apron is folded it may be readily transported or packed in a traveling bag, with the result that when it is desired to use the same, the toilet articles will be intact in the pockets of the apron.

While the preferred form of the invention has been herein shown and described, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, within the scope of the claims, without departing from the spirit of this invention.

What is claimed as new is:-

1. An apron of the character described embodying a front and back panel shaped to form a neck opening therebetween which is open at one side to facilitate application to the person, fastening means for the open side of the neck opening, and a bib of substantial width on the outer side of the apron, secured to and depending from the edge of the neck opening, said bib adapted to be folded or tucked over the edge of the neck opening and beneath the garment of the wearer to encase the edge of the garment between the bib and the under face of theapron.

2. An apron of the character described embodying a front and back panel shaped to form a neck opening therebetween which is open at one side to facilitate application to the person, fastening means for the open side of the neck opening, a bib of substantial width on the outer side of the apron, secured to and depending from the edge of the neck opening, said bib adapted to be folded or tucked over the edge of the neck opening and beneath the garment of the wearer to encase the edge of the garment between the bib and the under face of the apron, and fastening means for temporarily securing the lateral edges of the front and back panels together.

An apron of the character described embodying a front and back panel shaped to form a neck opening therebetween which is open at one side to facilitate application to the person, fastening means for the open side of the neck opening, a bib of substantial width on the outer side of the apron, securedto and depending from the edge of the neck opening, said-bib adapted to be folded or tucked over the edge of the neck opening and beneath the garment of the wearer to encase the edge of the garment between the bib and the under face of the apron, and pockets carried by the front panel for receiving and holding toilet articles.

4. An apron of the character described embodying a front and back panel shaped to form a neck opening therebetween which is open at one side to facilitate application to the person, fastening means for the open side of the neck opening, a bib of substantial width on the outer side of the apron, secured to and depending from the edge of the neck opening, said bib adapted to be folded or tucked over the edge of 1 the neck opening and beneath the garment of the wearer to encase the edge of the garment between the bib and the under face of the apron, and a plurality of pockets arranged lengthwise of the front panel in proximity to the side edges thereof and also across the front panel for the reception and storage of toilet articles and accessories.

5. An apron of the character described embodying connected front and rear panels shaped to form a neck opening, a bib secured to and depending from the edge of the neck opening and on the outside of the apron, the apron being open at one side to the neck opening and through said bib to facilitate application to a person, and fastening means for the proximate edges of said open portion of the apron, one end of the bib formed by the opening therethrough being detached and free from the edge of the neck opening and the apron body, so as to permit ready access to said fastening means, said bib adapted to be folded over the edge of the neck opening and beneath the garment of the wearer.

An apron of the character described embodying connected front and rear panels shaped to form a neck opening, a bib secured to and depending from the edge of the neck opening and on the outside of the apron, the apron being open at one side to the neck opening and through said bib to facilitate application to a person, fastening means for the proximate edges of said open portion of the apron, one end of the bib formed by the opening therethrough being detached and free from the edge of the neck opening and the apron body, so as to permit ready access to said fastening means, said bib adapted to be folded over the edge of the neck opening and beneath the garment of the wearer, and fastening means for securing the adjacent lateral edges of the front and back members together.

7. An apron of the character described embodying front and back members connected together and shaped to form a neck opening, a bib of substantial width secured to the edge of the neck opening on the outside of the apron and adapted to be folded over said edge and the edge of the neck of the garment and beneath said garment, and a plurality of pockets carried by the front apron member for receiving and stor- 150 ing toilet articles and accessories. said apron adapted. when removed. to be folded with the said articles in the said pockets to form a toilet or traveling case.
