Abstract

A lid for an air-tight container is composed of a base and a seal. The base has a circular groove defined in a bottom face thereof. The seal has a circular extension formed to correspond to the circular groove. When the circular extension is received in the circular groove, the engagement between the base and the seal is secured.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention [0001]
  • The present invention relates to a lid, and more particularly to a lid for an airtight container. The lid is composed of a base and a seal having a circular extension extending out from the seal and received in a circular groove in the base, such that the seal is able to securely engage with the base. [0002]
  • 2. Description of Related Art [0003]
  • When an object is to be stored, people usually would think of using an air-tight container, especially when the object needs to be isolated from moisture. The principle of the air-tight container is based on the seal on the lid. The seal is made of rubber and is securely mounted on a bottom face of the lid by the elasticity of the seal. For a short period of time, the air-tight container works well in preserving the object. However, after continuously using the container, the elasticity of the seal can be lost through either work hardening or stretching of the seal material. Thus, the engagement between the seal and the lid is not able to secure the seal to the lid anymore. The user may find that the seal keeps on falling from the lid, which causes a lot of trouble for the user. [0004]
  • To overcome the shortcomings, the present invention tends to provide an improved lid for an air-tight container to mitigate and obviate the aforementioned problems. [0005]
    • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a lid having a seal which is able to securely engaged with a bottom face of the lid so that even after a long period of time using the lid, the seal will not fall off from the lid of the air-tight container. [0006]
  • In order to accomplish the foregoing objective, the lid is composed of a base and a seal having a circular extension extending out from the seal and received in a circular groove in the base, such that the seal is able to securely engage with the base. [0007]
  • Other objects, advantages and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.[0008]

    • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • With reference to FIG. 1, an air-tight container is composed of a hollow cylinder ([0012] 1) with an open end and a closed end, and a lid (2) pivotally engaged with the hollow cylinder (1) so that the lid (2) is able to cover the open end of the hollow cylinder (1).
  • The lid ([0013] 2) is composed of a base (21) and a seal (22) which is made of rubber.
  • With reference to FIG. 2, the base ([0014] 21) has a circular groove (211) defined in a bottom face of the base (21). The seal (22) has a circular extension (221) extending from a face of the seal (22) to correspond to the circular groove (211).
  • With reference to FIG. 3, when the seal ([0015] 22) is in assembly with the base (21), the circular extension (221) is inserted into the circular groove (211). The dimension of the circular groove (211) is so configured that when the circular extension (221) of the seal (22) is inserted into the circular groove (211), a step (222) formed adjacent to the circular extension (221) is able to engage with a bottom face of the base (21), which accomplishes the air-tight objective. Furthermore, the circular extension (221) being received in the circular groove (211) ensures the secure engagement between the seal (22) and the base (21). It is noted that in order to ensure that the seal (22) will securely engage with the base (21), an inner diameter of the circular extension (221) is slightly smaller than an inner of the circular groove (211) such that when the circular extension (221) is inserted into the circular groove (211), the elasticity of the seal (22) will ensure that the seal (22) stays in place with respect to the base (21).
  • It is to be understood, however, that even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the present invention have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and function of the invention, the disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in detail, especially in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the invention to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed. Claims (2)

What is claimed is:
1. A lid for an air-tight container, the lid comprising:
a base having a circular groove defined in a bottom face of the base; and
a rubber seal with a circular extension extending from a face of the rubber seal to correspond to the circular groove so that after the circular extension of the rubber seal is received in the corresponding circular groove of the base, an engagement between the base and the rubber seal is secured,
wherein an inner diameter of the circular extension is slightly smaller than an inner of the circular groove such that when the circular extension is inserted into the circular groove, the elasticity of the seal will ensure that the seal stays in place with respect to the base.
2. The lid as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a step formed adjacent to the circular extension to correspond to the bottom face of the base such that an engagement between the step and the bottom face of the base secures air-tight engagement of the container.
