Abstract

A portable pocket, the assembly comprising of a pocket that attaches to the arms, legs, thighs or waist of a wearer by means of an adjustable band. A zipper closes the opening of the pocket thereby protecting inserted items from loss or theft. The portable pocket in combination with the adjustable band is a miniature carrying compartment for transporting small quantities of small-sized items thereby eliminating the need to carry bulking purses, wallets, etc. and it does not interfere with freedom of movement.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:

1. Field of Invention

This invention relates to a portable pocket that attaches to the arms, legs, thighs or waist of the wearer by means of an adjustable band and provides a convenient way to transport small quantities of small-sized items such as credit cards, a driver's license, keys, metro passes, ID's, concert tickets, coins and paper currency, etc. The use of the pocket band eliminates the need to carry hanging purses, dangling keys or bulging wallets when transporting small quantities of small-sized items. Pocket bands are made of sturdy materials and adjust to fit the dimensions of the wearer. A zipper is sewn into the opening of the pocket to secure inserted items. Attaching the pocket band to the wearer gives items inserted into the pocket better protection from loss or theft. Pocket bands worn underneath sleeves, pants or dresses provide the best means for protecting paper currency and other items from being purloined by pick pockets.

2. Discussion of the Prior Art

Backpacks, purses, wallets and carrying pouches used to hold keys, tickets, credit cards and paper currency can be burdensome to carry to sporting events, amusement parks and concerts. Additionally, when shopping, exercising at a gym, or jogging outside, a credit card, locker room key or house key may be all that is needed and a small lightweight portable pocket connected to the wearer's arm, leg, or waist would provide a convenient and comfortable way to carry such small items.

Purses and wallets can be easily stolen or lost, especially in large crowds. Attaching a pocket to the wearer's arm, leg, thigh or waist protects items from lost and theft. The portable pocket band has a zipper sewn across the opening of the pocket to keep inserted items from falling out.

There is a need for a lightweight, comfortable and convenient portable pocket for carrying small quantities of small items that can be attached to the wearer without interfering with the wearer's freedom of movement and does not subject the wearer to stolen or lost items.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The conventional pocket inserts into larger components such as purses, jackets and pants, thereby adding bulkiness and additional weight when items are placed into the pocket. The concept of the pocket band is to find an effective means to safely carry small quantities of small items in a sturdy pocket without unnecessary bulkiness and weight and without interfering with the wearer's freedom of movement. Larger components with pockets such as purses are not always necessary to transport small quantities of small items. The portable pocket band provides a safe, effective and affordable solution to eliminating the unnecessary bulkiness and added weight of pockets used in the conventional way. When attached to the wearer, the pocket is transformed into a miniature carrying compartment. Wearing the pocket band underneath clothing, such as sleeves, pants or dresses provides the best means of protecting items from theft.

Individuals with back problems and joint pain will find the lightweight portable pocket band safe and easy to use. School children carrying house keys, lunch money or other small items will find the pocket band to be an effective means to protect items from lost of theft. Pocket bands can be worn under school uniforms. Business people can carry business cards and meeting notes in the pocket band. Aerobics class participants can carry locker room keys to an aerobics class without interfering with movement. Pocket bands are useful at concerts, amusements parks, grocery stores and malls. Various items can be transported in the pocket band. There are many uses for the pocket band depending on the wearer's individual preferences.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING

FIG. 5 is a view in perspective of the presently preferred form of pocket band for a wearer's waist. In this embodiment the adjustable band has a belt like designed as is commonly used in fanny packs. The belt adjust to the wearer's dimensions by means of sliding through an attached buckle that provides a way to increase and/or decrease the length of the belt to conform to the waist of a wearer. The ends of the belt connect by means of a side locking buckle.[0016]

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:

The jogger in FIG. 1 can comfortably and conveniently carry personal items, such as house keys or car keys by means of the pocket band. The pocket band can be worn on the wearer's upper arms, lower arms, waist, thighs and legs. [0017]
A jogger is shown for purposes of illustration only, since the pocket band can be advantageously used while performing many other activities or attending many other events such as concerts, movies, amusement parks, etc. [0018]
FIG. 2 gives a detailed illustration of the pocket band. The [0019] pocket 1 of the pocket band is made of sturdy material. The adjustable band 2 is comprised of two strips of elastic and rubberized fabric that stretch and conform to the dimensions of the wearer. The right strip 3 is singly sewn into one side of the pocket 1 whereas the left strip 4 which is singly sewn into the other side of the pocket 1. The right strip 3 attaches to the left strip 4 by means of a velcro strip 7 which is sewn in at the edge of the left strip 4. The adjustable band 2 now comfortably attaches the pocket 1 to the wearer's arm. The dashes along the edge of the adjustable band 2 denote the borders of the elastic strips of fabric. The zipper 5 is sewn across the opening 6 of the pocket 1 to secure items inserted into the pocket 1. The dimensions of the pocket 1 are slightly larger than a credit card and measure about 4 inches in length by 3 inches in width. These dimensions allow ample room for the pocket 1 to hold credit cards, ID's or driver's licenses in addition other items. The pocket band comes in three sizes. The sizes are small, medium and large. The size is determined by the length of the adjustable band 2 and not the dimensions of the pocket 1 which remain the same for all sizes. Only the length of the adjustable band 2 increases or decreases depending on the size, whereas sizes small and medium require a shorter adjustable band 2 than sizes large.
FIG. 3 is a view in perspective of the pocket band secured about a wearer's arm and showing the presently preferred form of the [0020] zipper 5 to close the pocket 1 and the adjustable band 2 to fasten the pocket 1 to the wearer. The adjustable band 2 encircles the wearer's arm. Items inserted into the pocket band 1 are secure and protected by the zipper 5.
FIG. 4 shows the back view of the pocket band. The [0021] adjustable band 2 encircles the wearer's arm and is fastened by means of the velcro strip 7. The velcro strip 7 is located on the underside and is not seen when connected to the adjustable band 2. Once the velcro strip 7 connects to the adjustable band 2, the pocket 1 is secured about the wearer, whether it be the wearer's arms, legs, or thighs.
FIG. 5 is a view in perspective of the pocket band for a wearer's waist. In this presently preferred embodiment the adjustable band has a belt like designed as is commonly used in fanny packs. The adjustable band is made of strapping [0022] 8 and has a side locking buckle 10 to fasten the adjustable band to the waist. The strapping 8 is capable of adjusting to the wearer's waistline by means of the attached looping device 9 that enables the strapping 8 to lengthen or shorten. This belt like designed is commonly used for fanny packs. The pocket band can be placed underneath dresses, shirts, pants or skirts when worn.
The [0023] pocket 1 of the pocket band will come in a variety colors. Some versions of the pocket band will include a see-through vinyl window to show identification cards. Fabrics used consists of heavy denims, heavy cottons and other sturdy fabrics. Fabrics will include designs, monograms, glitter, studs and the like.
Although a particular embodiment which is presently preferred and certain modifications thereof have been described in detail, various other applications, choices of materials, modifications and the like, will suggest themselves to those acquainted with the art and are considered to be within the spirit and scope of the invention. Claims

What I claim is:

1. A portable pocket for carrying small quantities of small items such as credit cards keys, paper currency, etc. thereby eliminating the need to carry bulky purses, wallets or pouches for transporting said small quantities of small items whereas said portable pocket attaches to the wearer's arms, legs, thighs or waist by means of an expandable adjustable band that attaches the portable pocket to the wearer wherein said portable pocket is both useful against theft and loss of items.

2. A portable pocket for carrying small quantities of small items such as credit cards and the like as defined in claim 1 wherein said opening of pocket runs across the top side edge of portable pocket.

3. The portable pocket of claim 1 and including means for closing said opening in said pocket.

4. The portable pocket of claim 3 wherein the means for closing said opening in pocket comprises of a zipper sewn across opening and wherein later versions for closing opening may consist of a two strips of velcro.

5. The portable pocket of claim 4 wherein later versions for the closing opening made be comprised of two strips of velcro wherein one strip is sewn across the one side of the opening and the other strip of velcro is sewn across the opposing side of the opening to connect and close the opening of said pocket.

6. The portable pocket comprising of an adjustable band whose opposite vertical ends are singly sewn into opposite sides at the rear of the portable pocket and wherein said adjustable band gives said portable pocket the ability to attach to the wearer's arms, legs, thighs or waist and hold the portable pocket comfortable in place thereby transforming the portable pocket as referenced in claim 1 into a miniature carrying compartment.

The portable pocket of claim 6 wherein adjustable band is presently made of a two adjoining strips of sturdy elastic material that fastens to the wearer by means a velcro strip however future versions may consist of buckles, snaps or other methods for fastening the portable pocket of claim 6 to the wearer and wherein the adjustable band for the waist is comprised of strapping and comes in a belt like design as those used in fanny packs and the size of the portable pocket is determined by the length of the adjustable band.

The portable pocket of claim 7 wherein the standard sizes are small, medium and large and whereas the dimensions of the pocket are slightly larger than a credit card and whereas the dimensions of the pocket remain the same for all sizes and the length of the adjustable band increases or decreases depending on the size ordered wherein the larger the size the longer the adjustable band and vice versa.

9. The portable pocket of claim 7 whereas the dimensions of the pocket are slightly larger than a credit card and measure about 4 inches in length and 3 inches in width and the said pocket comes in a variety of colors and fabrics.

10. The portable pocket of claim 11 wherein the fabrics used consists of heavy denims, heavy cottons and other sturdy fabrics and the fabrics include designs, monograms, glitter, studs and the like.
