Abstract

The invention relates to an item of seating and/or reclining furniture that comprises a furniture frame (1) that carries a padded seat or reclining area (5) covered with a furnishing fabric. On the back of said furniture frame a spring-loaded roller (8) is rotatably mounted on which a cover (9) is wound up which is linked with its free end with a bar (10) of the like so that it can be unwound from said roller (8) and laid across the seat of reclining area, thereby making it easy to apply the cover.

Description

  • The invention relates to a piece of furniture for sitting or reclining with a frame that supports a fabric-covered upholstered sitting or reclining surface. [0001]
  • In order to protect the upholstery fabric and also for hygienic reasons it is standard when using the furniture for reclining to provide it with a cover. Such a cover is in its simplest a sheet that is drawn over the bed or seat linens. [0002]
  • It is an object of this invention to simplify the fitting of a cover over the upholstered sitting or reclining surface. [0003]
  • This object is attained in that wound up on a spring-loaded roller provided at a rear edge of the frame is a cover that has or is provided at its free end with a rod so that it can be pulled off the roller and drawn over the sitting or reclining surface. [0004]
  • In a piece of furniture according to the invention simply pulling on the rod or the like lays the cover over the sitting or reclining surface. [0005]
  • In a preferred embodiment of the invention the cover is a quilt on which a sheet is secured by hook-and-loop tape. Thus the sheet can be changed easily. [0006]
  • The spring-loaded roller can be mounted on a not visible rear side of the piece of furniture. Preferably it is mounted in a compartment of the furniture frame. Thus it is also not visible from the rear. [0007]
  • In order to secure the rod or the like and thus the cover in the extended position there are various possibilities. In an embodiment of the invention the rod is secured to an underside of the piece of furniture by means of a hook-and-loop fastener.[0008]
  • The invention is more closely described in the following with reference to an embodiment shown in the drawing. The drawing shows a section through a piece of furniture according to the invention, illustrating three positions of the cover. [0009]
  • According to the drawing the [0010] furniture frame 1 is supported on feet 2. A lattice 4 carries upholstery 3 and has a sitting or reclining surface 5. At the back side of the frame 1 there is a compartment 7 defined by a wall 6. Mounted rotatably in this compartment 7 is a spring-loaded roller, a so-called automatic roller.
  • Wound up on the [0011] roller 8 is a cover 9 that is provided at its free end with a rod 10, a tube, or the like. The cover 9 is formed, although this is not shown in the drawing, as a quilt and a sheet (bed sheet or throw) secured in place with hook-and-loop tape. This sheet can thus be easily removed for cleaning and after cleaning again fixed in place.
  • The [0012] rod 10 in the wound-up position of the cover 9 (position I) is in a slot that is delimited at the rear of the furniture frame 1 by a wall 11. A hand loop 12 is provided on the rod 10 that is preferably covered with upholstery fabric. Should the cover-need to be drawn from the position I into the sleep position (position III), on need simply pull on the hand loop 12 so as to draw the rod 10 with the cover 9 over the sitting or reclining surface 5. An intermediate position is shown in the drawing at II.
  • A hook-and-[0013] loop fastener 13 is provided on the rod 10 so that the rod 10 can be secured in position III on the front underside of the furniture frame 1.
  • Many changes are possible within the scope of the invention. As already mentioned the [0014] roller 10 can be secured directly on the rear side of the furniture frame 1. It would also be possible to provide the piece of furniture with a seat back so that to draw out the cover 9 it is only necessary to raise the seat back slightly.
