This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a shoulder strap holder.

The invention has for an object the provision of a simple, cheap article which is adapted to be adhesively attached upon the shoulder and hold. the shoulder straps of garments. It is a continual annoyance for a wearer if the shoulder straps keep slipping from place. With this arrangement a convenient method is provided 10. for preventing such annoyance.

Still further, the invention proposes the con: struction of an article as mentioned which is characterized by a flexible sheet of material hav ing adhesive on one side, a removable sheet of is: material covering said adhesive, an element for engaging and holding a shoulder strap and coacting means upon said element and flexible sheet for detachably holding said element.

The invention furthermore contemplates the arrangement of a removable sheet of material for covering the adhesive, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, so that there is little or no annoyance due to the adhesive contacting with objects while being carried.

Still further, the invention proposes an arrangement for protecting the adhesive so that the article may be conveniently carried when not in use.

As another object of this invention various arrangements are proposed for connecting the element which is adapted to engage the shoulder strap with the flexible sheet material as previously mentioned. 7

Furthermore, as another object of this invention an arrangement is proposed whereby a portion of the removable sheet material which covers the adhesive may be removed soas to. control the amount of adhesive engaged against the skin during the use of the shoulder strap 40 holder.

Furthermore, an arrangement is proposed whereby the removable portion of the removable sheet material may be removed to various degrees and also fully removed for facilitating 45 removal of the entire removable sheet.

\ Still further the invention contemplates the construction of an article as mentioned which is. simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of 55 the invention are more particularly set forth.

The shoulder strap, according to this invention, comprises a flexible sheet of material Ml having adhesive ii on one side. A removable sheet material covering I2 engages the adhesive so as to normally prevent annoyance when the articles are being carried. According to this form, the sheet l2 must be removed and then the adhesive strap may be engaged across the shoulder strap and upon the skin for the purpose of holding the shoulder strap in place.

The adhesive may be of any standard quality and the flexible sheet ll] of any shape and size. The adhesive may either cover the full surface of the sheet H! or leave a pair of narrow margins along the two edges of the sheet so that the soiled skin may be kept coveredby the unadhesived margin. The covering material may extend the full length of the flexible sheet material or cover only a portion thereof. The sheet 55 material may be of any suitable fabric, cut up in strips or woven in strip form; it may be white, colored or printed with any design.

In Fig. 2 another variation of the invention has been disclosed in which the shoulder strap holder comprises a flexible sheet of material |3 having adhesive I4 on one side and a removable sheet of material covering l2 over the adhesive. The flexible sheet material l3 comprises two layers of material arranged so that the upper layer has a central loop portion |5 forming a loop through which an element engaging the shoulder strap will be mounted. This element is in the form of a ring l6 having contacting ends so that the ends may be separated for the purpose of removing the ring from the shoulder strap holder for the purpose of engaging the shoulder strap into the ring. The layers composing the flexible sheet |3 may be attached together by adhesive or any other arrangement.

In Fig. 3 another variation of the invention has been disclosed in which the holder comprises a flexible sheet of material H with adhesive IS on one side which is covered by a removable sheet covering l2. Another smaller piece of flexible material I9 is sewn upon the side of the material I1 and forms a loop 20 through which a ring or other holding element may be engaged for holding the shoulder strap.

In Fig. 4 another variation of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the form described in Fig. l but distinguishes in the provision of a cotton loop 2| mounted upon the upper face of the flexible sheet material In.

This loop 2| may be formed of other material such as crochet or even metal.

In Fig. 5 another variation has been disclosed in which the holder comprises a flexible sheet of material 22 bent upon itself forming a loop 23 at one end and a transverse line of stitches 24 serve to hold the adjacent layers together to maintain the loop formation. One outer side of the flexible material 22 hides adhesive 25 and a removable sheet material covering I2 is engaged over this adhesive.

In Fig. 6 another varied form of the invention has been disclosed which comprises a flexible sheet material 26 formed with a side extention 21 bent under to form a loop 28 for receiving the ring or other element for engaging the shoulder strap. Adhesive material 29 is arranged upon the under side of the sheet material 26 and a removable sheet material covering element I2 is engaged upon the adhesive.

In Fig. '7 another variation of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the form illustrated in Fig. 1 and bearing the iden tical reference numerals, but which distinguishes by the provision of an additional strip of material 38 bent upon itself to form a loop 3| and having its edges secured together by stitches 32 which also secure it to the sheet In.

The form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 8 comprises a strip of material 33 bent at one end to form a loop 34 and a second strip of material 35 secured beneath the strip of material 33, preferably by adhesive. The stitches 36 which serve to hold the loop formation 34 also engage the material 35 for better holding the parts in a unit. Adhesive 31 is arranged upon the underside of the strap 35. A removable sheet material covering |2 is mounted upon the adhesive.

In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 9 and 10 the holder is very similar to that illustrated in Fig. l, the same parts may be recognized by the same reference numerals, but distinguishes in the fact that a snap fastener element 38 is mounted upon the top of the sheet l and is adapted to cooperate with a complementary element 39 mounted upon an element for holding the shoulder strap, such as the ring 40. This ring 45 has adjacent ends which may be separated for the purpose of allowing the shoulder strap to engage therein.

In Fig. 11 another arrangement of the element which holds the shoulder strap is illustrated. According to this form, a chain 4| is secured on a snap fastener element 39 and has ends 42 provided with some type of hook catch so that they may be joined together. In other respects this arrangement is similar to the form illustrated in Fig. 10.

In Fig. 12 a detail of the various removable sheet coverings |2 has been disclosed. This detail shows the removable sheet cover l2 to be formed with areas having spiral perforations 43 which terminate at a point 44 upon the edge of the sheet material. With this arrangement it is possible with a pin or other pointed implement to pick at the center of the spiral for tearing some of the perforations and loosening the central portion from the adhesive material. Then this loosened portion may be pulled to tear off as much of the spiral as is desired to expose as much of the adhesive as is desired. For example, at the right hand portion of Fig. 12 a portion of the sheet |2 has been shown torn away exposing an area 45. It will be recognized that the adhesive from the various strap holders will be exposed through this area. With this area it is possible for one to expose a small area of adhesive which is of sufiicient strength, obtained by experimenting, to hold a delicate shoulder strap, or a larger area of adhesive may be exposed to produce greater adhesion to hold a larger or thicker shoulder strap. The spiral line of perforations has still a further purpose in that if completely removed the tear will extend to the edge ofthe sheet |2which then exposes a corner or portion which may easily be raised and so form a starting point for removing the entire removable sheet |2. Examining Fig. 1, it will be recognized that since the adhesive I! is very thin, the drawing being oxaggerated, it will be especially difiicult to separate the layers l0 and I2 for the purpose of removing the layer |2.

In Fig. 13 a side view of the ring l6 has been illustrated. This View distinctly discloses the ends I6 of the ring which are shown at an inclination to each other so that when the ends are together the ring has the appearance of being continuous and the ends reinforce each other under tension to maintain the closed position of the ring.

In Figs. 14 and 15 other rings have been disclosed which are of circular and rectangular shape respectively, but each of these having ends Hi formed with smaller balls serving as heads. In other respects the operation is identical to the ring l6 previously described.

In the modified form illustrated in Fig. 16 a strap 50 with adhesive on one side is engaged at one end around a tubular element slot at Bi and has the engaged end secured down by the adhesive material. A covering strip of material 52 engages and covers the adhesive up to the point 53 where the end of the strip 50 is disposed. The strip 52 has a loose portion 54 beyond the point 53' by which it may be readily gripped for removing purposes. A garment holding element l'fi is engaged through the slot 5H of tubular element 5! to support'any garment, instead of limiting the support to a shoulder strap only. The holding element [6 may be in a form of a buckle, clasp, or the like.

The slot 5i is for the purpose of convenience in assembling the device. A transverse bar or rod from the garment holding element I8 may slip in and out from the slot l5 and in assembled position the tubular element 5! and the garment holding element. 16' may be associated with the adhesive material as described.

In Fig. 17 another variation of the invention has been disclosed in which an additional tubular element 5 l is arranged immediately adjacent the tubular element 5| held down by the end of the adhesive strip 5b. In other respects this form. of the invention is identical to the previous form and the parts may be recognized by the same reference numerals. A large ring l6 is shown engaged through the tubular element 5| for engaging the straps of an evening gown while a; smaller ring 55 is shown engaged through the tubular element 5! for engaging the shoulder strap of some arrangement.

In Fig. 18 another variation of the invention has been disclosed which comprises a strip of material 55 having adhesive 56 on one side. The strip 55 is formed at the end in the shape of a ring portion 51. An actual ring 16 is engaged by the adhesive upon the portion 51. A covering strip 58 is engaged over the adhesive 56 and has one end 59 resting against the upper side of the ring It so that it may be easily gripped for removal. The portion 51 is provided with an opening 60 at the area where the ends of the ring [6 come together. This form distinguishes from any of the previous forms in the fact that the element which engages the shoulder strap is at all times flat in the same plane with the adhesive strip.

In Figs. 19 and 20 other variations of the invention have been disclosed which comprise a strip of material 6| having adhesive 62 on one side. At one end of the strip of material 6| a fabric 63 is fastened to the adhesive 62 and turned to form a loop 64 and thereafter, the other end of fabric 63 is fastened again to the adhesive 62 at 55, spaced from the end. A covering strip 66 is engaged over the adhesive surface, and extended at 61 over the end 65 of fabric 63. A split ring I6 is held by the loop 64 shown in Fig. 19 and split rings 16 and Ni in the illustration shown in Fig. 20.

The adhesive referred to in this specification may be any of the kinds generally known which have no deleterious effect upon the skin. For example, the adhesives used on medical plasters such as oxide of zinc plasters would be excellent since there will be no likelihood of infections of the skin being started by continued use of the shoulder strap holder.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. In a shoulder strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring with separable ends, and a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holding said ring.

2. In a shoulder strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring with separable ends, and a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holdingsaid ring, said flexible sheet material comprising a plurality of layers, certain of which are formed with a loose portion producing aloop comprising said means for holding the ring in place.

.3. In a shoulder strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring. with separable ends, and a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holding said ring, said latter means comprising a loop connected with said flexible sheet material.

4. In a shoulder. strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring with separable ends, and a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holding said ring, said flexible sheet material having a portion bent upon itself forming a loop comprising said means for detachably holding the ring.

5. In a shoulder strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring with separable ends, and a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holding said ring, said flexible sheet material having a portion bent upon itself forming a loop comprising said means for detachably holding the ring, said loop being arranged at one end.

6. In a shoulder strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring with separable ends, and a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holding said ring, said flexible sheet material having a portion bent upon itself forming a loop comprising said means for detachably holding the ring, said loop being arranged at one side.

7. In a shoulder strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring with separable ends, a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holding said ring, and said removable sheet material having an area formed with a spiral perforation.

8. In a shoulder strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring with separable ends, a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holding said ring, and said removable sheet material having an area formed with a spiral perforation, terminating at the side.

9. In a shoulder strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring with separable ends, and a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holding said ring, comprising a snap fastener element attached on said flexible sheet and cooperative with another element mounted upon said ring.

10. In a shoulder strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring with separable ends, and a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holding said ring, said ring having separable ends detachably connected together.

11. In a shoulder strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring with separable ends, and a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holding said ring, said separable ends of the ring being formed with heads.

12. In a shoulder strap holder having a flexible sheet material with adhesive on one side, a ring with separable ends, and a means upon the free side of said flexible sheet for detachably holding said ring, said holding means comprising a tubular element secured in position by said adhesive, and said ring engaging through said tubular element.

13. A shoulder strap holder, comprising a flexible sheet of material with adhesive on one side and having one end bent with the adhesive side over a plurality of transversely located adjacent tubular elements to hold the tubular elements in place, a removable covering sheet adhesively engaged upon said adhesive and having a free extending end extending over said bent end, and rings with separable ends engaged through said tubular elements.

14. A shoulder strap holder, comprising a flexible sheet of material With adhesive on one side and having one end shaped in the form of a ring with the adhesive inside, a ring secured by said adhesive upon said ring portion of said strap and having adjacent separable ends aligned with an opening in the ring portion of said strap, and removable sheet material covering said adhesive and extending partially over said ring portion.

In a device of the kind described, a, strip of sheet material having a coating of adhesive on a face thereof, a second strip of sheet material having one of its faces adhered to the face of the first recited sheet which is opposite to said coating, and an attaching member mounted upon said second sheet, said attaching member having a loop adapted to receive a shoulder strap.

16. In a device of the kind described, a strip of sheet material having a coating of adhesive on a face thereof, a second strip of sheet material having one of its faces adhered to the face of the first recited sheet which is opposite to said coating, and an attaching member mounted upon said second sheet, said attaching member having a loop adapted to receive a shoulder strap, said loop being of a collapsible character to avoid producing a protuberance opposite the clasping element.

A lingerie clasp comprising a sheet of fabric provided with an adhesive coating for securing said fabric to the skin of the wearer, a loop engaging portion secured to said fabric for securing a shoulder strap of a garment thereto, said loop having its free ends adapted to. be encircled around said strap and then secured in intimate relation with each other and then caused to assume a flatwise relation with the fabric as Well as the shoulder of the wearer.
