Description
- This application claims priority of Taiwanese Application No. 094101660, filed on Jan. 20, 2005.
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The invention relates to a golf club grip, more particularly to a golf club grip which has a cap that is easy to assemble and which has a flexible design to meet various specific demands.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- U.S. Pat. No. 2,721,741 discloses a grip piece for a golf club shaft. The grip piece includes a hollow cap portion and a strip portion integrated with the cap portion. The cap portion is adapted to fit over an end of the shaft on which the grip piece is attached. Inside an end of the cap is a key, which fits into a corresponding slot in the end of the shaft. The grip piece is assembled by wrapping the strip portion around the shaft and fastening its free end to the shaft with wrapping or the like. The cap portion is then pulled out from the shaft end and twisted in the direction of twist in the strip portion to tighten and even the strip portion on the shaft. Finally, the cap portion is let back on the end of the shaft, taking care to force the key into the slot in the end of the shaft. In practice, however, it is relatively difficult for a golf player to force the key into the slot in the end of the shaft.
- Referring to
FIG. 1 , U.S. Pat. No. 5,816,933 discloses a golf club shaft grip which includes an elongatedresilient strip 11 spirally wrapped about agolf club shaft 10, and anannular cap 12 telescopically received by an upper end of theshaft 10 to restrain thestrip 11 from unraveling relative to theshaft 10. Thestrip 11 has an open-pored felt layer adhered to thegolf club shaft 10, and a smooth closed pore polyurethane layer bonded to the felt layer. Thecap 12 includes aninner skirt 120 and anouter skirt 121. Thecap 12 is secured to an upper open end of theshaft 10 in a manner in which theinner skirt 120 is tightly and telescopically received by the upper open end of theshaft 10 and in which the outer skirt 64 can tightly and telescopically enclose the first wrap of thestrip 11. However, thecap 12 is liable to disengage from the upper open end of theshaft 10 after a period of use. Furthermore, since thestrip 11 is relatively thin, the application of the grip to various sizes of golf club shafts is limited. - Referring to

Furthermore, due to the absence of theprojection 203 around thevent hole 2030, which is required in the prior art ofFIGS. 2 and 3 described hereinabove, thecover plate 700 of thecap 7 has a continuous top surface, which can be utilized sufficiently. Therefore, there is greater flexibility in the selection of materials and in the design of thegolf club grip 3. - The
golf club grip 3 of this invention can be assembled with relative ease through the following steps: - 1) adhering the
anti-slip skin 6 to thetubular wall surface 54 of thetubular body 5; - 2) mounting the
tubular body 5 adhered with theanti-slip skin 6 on the grip mountingend portion 41 of thegolf club shaft 40; and - 3) mounting and fastening the
hard shell cap 7 to thefirst end portion 52 of thetubular body 5. - When it is desired to remove the
hard shell cap 7 from thetubular body 5, such as when replacing with a new cap, thefastening member 71 is first loosened to remove thecap body 70 such that a new cap body can be mounted and fastened afterward. - Referring to
FIG. 8 , the second preferred embodiment of agolf club grip 3 according to this invention is shown to be similar to the first preferred embodiment. However, in this embodiment, thehard shell cap 7 further includes a protectinglid 73 which is made of an anti-abrasive material, such as crystal glass. Theperipheral flange 702 is formed with an engagingportion 7020. The protectinglid 73 engages the engagingportion 7020 of theperipheral flange 702. - Alternatively, the
peripheral flange 702 of thehard shell cap 7 can be made of a material different from that of thecover plate 700 of thehard shell cap 7 so as to enhance aesthetic appeal of thehard shell cap 7. For example, theperipheral flange 702 of thehard shell cap 7 can be made of gold alloy, and thecover plate 700 of thehard shell cap 7 can be made of stainless steel. - Referring to
FIGS. 9 and 10 , the third preferred embodiment of agolf club grip 3 according to this invention is shown to be similar to the first preferred embodiment. However, in this embodiment, thehard shell cap 7 includes adecoration recess 705 confined by theperipheral flange 702, and a decorative member 72 (such as sapphire, emerald, or other gemstones) disposed in thedecoration recess 705. Furthermore, in this preferred embodiment, thecover plate 700 of thehard shell cap 7 has a flat top surface that does not include the insertingrecesses 703 and thedecorative members 72 of the first and second preferred embodiments. - Referring to
FIG. 11 , the fourth preferred embodiment of agolf club grip 3 according to this invention is shown to be similar to the first preferred embodiment. However, in this embodiment, thefastening member 71 includes a plurality offastening elements 802 protruding inwardly from theskirt portion 701 of thecap body 70, and a plurality ofblind holes 524 formed in thefirst end portion 52 of thetubular body 5 and receiving thefastening elements 802, respectively, so as to fasten thehard shell cap 7 on thefirst end portion 52 of thetubular body 5. Furthermore, in this preferred embodiment, there are no throughholes 704 on the outer surface of theskirt portion 701, therefore providing an extra continuous space for commercial design. - Referring to
FIG. 12 , the fifth preferred embodiment of agolf club grip 3 according to this invention is shown to be similar to the fourth preferred embodiment. However, the fastening mechanism used in the first preferred embodiment is employed in this preferred embodiment. - Referring to
FIG. 13 , alternatively, theskirt portion 701 of thecap body 70 has a substantiallyannular end face 7012 opposite to thecover plate 700 of thecap body 70. Thesecond end portion 61 of theanti-slip skin 6 has a substantiallyannular end face 611 abutting against the substantiallyannular end face 7012 of theskirt portion 701 of thecap body 70. - While the present invention has been described in connection with what is considered the most practical and preferred embodiments, it is understood that this invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiments but is intended to cover various arrangements included within the spirit and scope of the broadest interpretation so as to encompass all such modifications and equivalent arrangements.
