Abstract
A remote controlled melodic device for soothing and/or comforting a child while sleeping. The melodic device comprises a sound emitting device. A recording member for recording one of a familiar voice and/or song on the sound emitting device. A securing member is provided for securing the sound emitting device to a surface, such as a playpen, swing, crib, or bed. A remote control device remotely activates the sound emitting device to play at least one of the recorded voice and song to sooth and/or lull the child back to sleep.
Description
- This application is based on Provisional Application Serial Number 60/657,318, filed Feb. 28, 2005.
- The present invention relates, in general, to a melodic device for soothing a child during sleep and, more particularly, to a remote-controlled melodic device which allows a caregiver to sooth a child back to sleep by remotely activating the device to play a loved one's voice when the child awakens.
- Infants and toddlers wake up several times during their sleep desiring comfort from their caregivers. The winding of a traditional mobile can upset extremely sound sensitive children. Often, the sound of a familiar and comforting voice is sufficient to lull the child back to sleep. Entering the room to lull the child back to sleep can be a time-consuming process, especially if the child wakes up several times and the caregiver is located on a different floor of the house from where the child is sleeping. Additionally, if the caregiver enters the room, the child may try to get out of bed before they have received a sufficient amount of sleep. Also, if the child is with a strange caregiver, i.e. other than a parent, the child may miss the voice of a familiar loved one.
- There is a need in the art for a system for playing a familiar voice or a lullaby sung by a familiar and comforting voice to lull a child back to sleep. There is further a need in the art for a system that allows the caregiver to play the voice and/or song without actually entering the room and upsetting the child's sleep pattern.
- It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a melodic device for soothing a child during sleep.
- It is another object of the invention to provide a melodic device that can be remotely controlled.
- It is still yet another object of the invention to provide a melodic device which can record a familiar and comforting voice which can lull a child back to sleep when in a babysitter's care.
- It is still another object of the invention to provide a melodic device that can be customized to play a child's favorite melodies.
- It is an even further object of the invention to provide a melodic device that can be remotely controlled to switch between recorded tracks and/or pre-purchased lullabies.
- It is still another object of the invention to provide a melodic device that can attach to a variety of surfaces in which a child sleeps.
- In addition to the various objects and advantages of the invention which have been described in some specific detail above it should be noted that various other objects and advantages of the present invention will become more readily apparent to those persons who are skilled in the relevant art from the following more detailed description, particularly, when such description is taken in conjunction with the attached drawing Figures and with the appended claims.
- Briefly, and in accordance with the forgoing objectives, the invention comprises a remote controlled melodic device for soothing a child during sleep. The melodic device comprises a sound emitting device. A means for recording one of a voice and a song on the sound emitting device. A means for securing the sound emitting device to a surface, such as a playpen, swing, crib or bed, and a means for remotely activating the sound emitting device to play at least one of the recorded voice and song to sooth and/or lull the child back to sleep.
-
FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of the melodic sound emitting device of the invention. -
FIG. 2 shows the remote control device for controlling the melodic sound emitting device ofFIG. 1 . -
FIG. 3 shows a perspective view of an alternative design for the melodic sound emitting device of the invention. -
FIG. 4 shows an attachment means for securing the melodic sound emitting device to a surface. -
FIG. 5 shows a split view of the melodic sound emitting device of the invention attached to a baby's crib and the remote control device placed in a different room of the house for remotely activating the sound emitting device. - Prior to proceeding to a more detailed description of the invention, it should be noted that identical components having identical functions have been designated with identical reference numerals for the sake of clarity.
- Now reference is made to the Figures, which show the inventive remote controlled melodic device for soothing a child during sleep. The melodic device comprises a sound emitting device, generally indicated as 10 in
FIG. 1 . Ameans 12 for recording one of a voice and a song on the sound emitting device. Ameans 14 for securing the sound emitting device to a surface, such as a playpen, swing, crib orbed 16, as shown inFIGS. 4-5 , and a means, such as a remote control device, as generally indicated as 18 inFIG. 2 , for remotely activating the sound emitting device to play at least one of the recorded voice and song to sooth and/or lull the child back to sleep. - As shown in
FIGS. 1 and 3 , thesound emitting device 10 includes a small power light indicator. A battery or any other well known power source can power thedevice 10 and theremote control 18. A plurality of control buttons can be provided on both thesound emitting device 10 and theremote control device 18. For example, a “Mother's Melodies”selection button 28 and an interchangeablemusic selection button 30 can be provided on thesound emitting device 10. The center of thesound emitting device 10 can include atrack selection window 32 andtypical stop 34, play 36,record 38, rewind 40, and fast-forward 42 buttons. A sidevolume control disc 44 allows the volume to be adjusted manually. - As shown in
FIG. 2 , theremote control device 18 can contain a plurality of control buttons. These buttons include apower button 46, a “Mother's Melodies”selection button 48, an interchangeablemusic selection button 50, stop 52 and play 54 buttons, reverse 56 and fast-forward buttons 58. - The interchangeable
music selection buttons sound emitting device 10 and theremote control device 18 are capable of controlling and/or interchanging the tracks in order to customize a particular play order. The melodic device of the invention is also capable of playing a plurality of pre-recorded and/or purchased lullabies in a variety of tunes and languages. - The means 12 for recording and playing one of a voice and song can comprises a cassette recording and playing device. Alternatively, the means 12 for recording and playing one of a voice and song can comprises a compact disc player. Any other well-known recording and playing device may be used for recording and playing the recorded material from the
sound emitting device 10. - As shown in
FIG. 5 , thesound emitting device 10 is capable of fitting over atop railing 20 of one of a playpen, crib, bed 16 or any other device in which a child sleeps. Alternatively, if atop railing 20 is not available, theemitting device 10 is capable of fitting over any type of railing, such as a side railing of a playpen, swing, crib, and the like. - The
sound emitting device 10 is clipped in place by any well known means 14. For example, themeans 14 for securing the sound emitting device to a surface can comprises and nut and bolt system and/or a decorativeplastic hook 22 andclip holding system 24 as shown inFIG. 4 . - As shown in
FIGS. 1 and 3 , the melodic device can be designed in a multitude of styles, decorative figures, fabrics, and materials to suit any nursery need. Also, a decorative fabric frame containing and displaying photographs of family members would offer personalization of the mobile. - As shown in
FIG. 5 , the remote-controlled melodic device of the invention allows a caregiver to operate thesound emitting device 10 from a remote location, such as the kitchen, to sooth or lull a child back to sleep. This enables the caregiver to complete chores and avoid entering the room and possibly upsetting the child's sleep pattern. This device also enables the caregiver to sooth the child using a familiar and comforting voice and/or lullaby. - The invention has been described in such full, clear, concise, and exact terms so as to enable any person skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same. It should be understood that variations, modifications, equivalents and substitutions for components of the specifically described embodiments of the invention may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims. Persons who possess such skill will also recognize that the foregoing description is merely illustrative and not intended to limit any of the ensuing claims to any particular narrow interpretation.
