Abstract

A weighted textile is described. The weighted textile comprises a flexible textile sheet having a weighted portion and an un-weighted portion. The weighted portion includes a weight affixed therewith. Thus, a user can place the weighted portion upon a surface with the un-weighted portion being hung off of the surface, thereby resulting in the weighted textile being held in place.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

(1) Field of Invention
The present invention relates to a textile, and more particularly to weighted textile that includes a weight sewn therein.
(2) Description of Related Art
Textiles have long been known in the art and have been applied to a variety of uses. For example, textiles are often used to absorb fluids and clean surfaces. More specifically, towels are typically used to wipe down and dry surfaces. In other circumstances, textiles are used as coverings to protect the surface, such as tablecloths.
In other art, gymnasiums are used by athletes and other health minded individuals to lift weights and work out. When working out, users typically use racks and weight machines having padded benches. While working out, the user almost always sweats, leaving a sweaty residue on the padded bench. To reduce the likelihood of leaving a sweaty residue, many users carry a towel with them into the weight room. The towel is often draped over the padded bench so that when the user is positioned against the bench, the towel and not the bench is exposed to the user's sweat.
Such functionality works well for flat benches, but becomes problematic when applied to a seated bench. Seated benches typically have a backrest. To reduce sweat against the backrest, users typically drape the towel over the backrest. While the towel itself is functional for absorbing sweat, it is difficult to keep the towel in place. The draped towel often slides off of the bench, frustrating users who have to continuously reposition the towel against the backrest.
Thus, a continuing need exists for a towel that stays put when hung over a backrest.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

The present invention relates to a weighted textile. The weighted textile comprises a flexible textile sheet having a weighted portion and an un-weighted portion. The weighted portion includes a weight affixed therewith. Thus, a user can place the weighted portion upon a surface with the un-weighted portion being hung off of the surface, thereby resulting in the weighted textile being held in place.
In another aspect, the textile sheet is formed of a cotton sheet.
In yet another aspect, the textile sheet has an outer edge and the weighted portion is formed along the textile sheet's outer edge.
In yet another aspect, the weighted portion includes a sand pocket sewn within the textile sheet.
Furthermore, the weighted portion includes weights affixed with the textile sheet.
In another aspect, the weighted portion includes a chain sewn within the textile sheet.
Finally, as can be appreciated by one in the art, the present invention also comprises a method for forming and using the weighted textile described herein.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The present invention relates to a textile, and more particularly to weighted textile that includes a weight sewn therein. The following description is presented to enable one of ordinary skill in the art to make and use the invention and to incorporate it in the context of particular applications. Various modifications, as well as a variety of uses in different applications will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the general principles defined herein may be applied to a wide range of embodiments. Thus, the present invention is not intended to be limited to the embodiments presented, but is to be accorded the widest scope consistent with the principles and novel features disclosed herein.
In the following detailed description, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a more thorough understanding of the present invention. However, it will be apparent to one skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced without necessarily being limited to these specific details. In other instances, well-known structures and devices are shown in block diagram form, rather than in detail, in order to avoid obscuring the present invention.

(1) Description
As described above, the present invention relates to a weighted textile. The weighted textile is an improvement over the textiles of the prior art in that it remains in place when draped over a surface.
As shown in FIG. 1, the weighted textile 100 includes a flexible textile sheet 102 having a weighted portion 104. The flexible textile sheet 102 is any suitably flexible and washable sheet, a non-limiting example of which includes a cotton towel. An advantage of a cotton towel is that it is suitably absorbent and comfortable. In this aspect, the flexible textile sheet 102 would operate well as workout towel.
Importantly, the weighted textile 100 is formed such that it can be placed upon AND stay upon a surface. In order to stay upon the surface, the weighted textile 100 includes the weighted portion 104. The weighted portion 104 is formed by affixing a weight 106 with the flexible textile sheet 102. The weight 106 is any suitably weighted material for weighing down the weighted portion 104, non-limiting examples of which include a sand pack 108, lead weights 110, and a chain 112.
FIG. 2 illustrates the weighted textile 100 and its weighted portion 104. As can be appreciated by one skilled in the art, the weighted portion 104 is formed through any suitable manner for affixing a weight with the flexible textile sheet 102. For example, the weighted portion 104 is formed by sewing the weight into and edge of the textile sheet 102. In this aspect, the textile sheet 102 can be wrapped over the weight and sewn against itself to affix the weight therein. In another aspect, the weight is affixed to the textile sheet 102 through any suitable technique or mechanism for affixing one item against the other, a non-limiting example of which includes using Velcro strips affixed with the weight and the textile sheet 102.
Additionally, the weighted portion 104 is formed at any suitable location along the textile sheet 102, non-limiting examples of which include being formed along a single outer edge, along multiple outer edges, or being formed in an interior part of the textile sheet 102.
As can be appreciated by one skilled in the art, such an improvement is useful for a variety of uses. More particularly, the weighted portion 104 allows a user to drape the weighted textile 100 over a surface. As illustrated in FIG. 3, a user can place the weighted portion 104 of the weighted textile 100 upon a surface 300, with the remainder of the weighted textile (an un-weighted portion 302) hanging off of the surface 300.
When working out, a user can place the weighted portion 104 on top of the backrest of a padded bench. The un-weighted portion 302 can then be draped down the backrest of the bench. The weighted portion 302 is of a sufficient weight such that when the weighted portion 104 is placed on top of the surface, the weighted textile 100 does not slide off of the surface (i.e., the top of the backrest). Thus, a user can then use the weighted textile 100 while working out with a bench having a backrest.

Claims

1. A weighted textile, comprising:

a flexible textile sheet having a weighted portion and an un-weighted portion, the weighted portion having a weight affixed therewith, whereby a user can place the weighted portion upon a surface with the un-weighted portion being hung off of the surface, thereby resulting in the weighted textile being held in place.

2. A weighted textile as set forth in claim 1, wherein the textile sheet is formed of a cotton sheet.

3. A weighted textile as set forth in claim 2, wherein the textile sheet has an outer edge and the weighted portion is formed along the textile sheet's outer edge.

4. A weighted textile as set forth in claim 3, wherein the weighted portion includes a sand pocket sewn within the textile sheet.

5. A weighted textile as set forth in claim 3, wherein the weighted portion includes weights affixed with the textile sheet.

6. A weighted textile as set forth in claim 3, wherein the weighted portion includes a chain sewn within the textile sheet.

7. A weighted textile, comprising:

a flexible textile sheet having a weighted portion and an un-weighted portion, the weighted portion having a weight affixed therewith;

wherein the textile sheet is formed of a cotton sheet;

wherein the textile sheet has an outer edge and the weighted portion is formed along the textile sheet's outer edge; and

wherein the weighted portion is weighted using a weight selected from a group consisting of sand, a solid weight, and a chain, whereby a user can place the weighted portion upon a surface with the un-weighted portion being hung off of the surface, thereby resulting in the weighted textile being held in place.
