Abstract
Description
- 1. Technical Field
- The present disclosure relates to portable electronic devices and, particularly, to a portable electronic device with a smart keyboard.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- A typical compact keypad adopted in a portable electronic device includes a plurality of input keys, the input keys may have multi-functions.
- However, such type of keypad has a low input efficiency because advanced functions offered by a full scale keyboard are unavailable in the compact keypad for use in, e.g., games and text editing.
- Therefore, there is room for improvement within the art.
- Many aspects of a portable electronic device can be better understood with reference to the following drawings. These drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead being placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the portable electronic device. Moreover, in the drawings like reference numerals designate corresponding sections throughout the several views.

FIG. 1 is an isometric, exploded view of a portable electronic device, in accordance with an exemplary embodiment. -
FIG. 2 is similar toFIG. 1 , but viewed from another aspect. -
FIG. 3 is a partially assembled view of a portable electronic device shown inFIG. 1 . -
FIG. 4 is an assembled view of a portable electronic device shown inFIG. 1 . -
FIGS. 1 and 2 show an exemplary portableelectronic device 100. The portableelectronic device 100 includes amain enclosure 10, a compactQWERTY keyboard assembly 20, acover member 30, aholder 40, and twofastening assemblies 50. Thecover member 30 is mounted to themain enclosure 10. TheQWERTY keyboard assembly 20 is mounted on theholder 40. Theholder 40 is secured to thecover member 30 via the twofastening assemblies 50. - The
main enclosure 10 is a housing of the portableelectronic device 100, and includes afirst wall 11, asecond wall 12, and anend wall 13. Thesecond wall 12 is opposite to thefirst wall 11. Theend wall 13 connects thefirst wall 11 and thesecond wall 12. Themain enclosure 10 further includes adisplay screen 111 and a plurality ofbuttons 112 disposed on thefirst wall 11. Themain enclosure 10 further defines areceiving cavity 121 in thesecond wall 12. Thereceiving cavity 121 partially receives thecover member 30. Thefirst wall 11 defines a plurality oflatch holes 1211 around thereceiving cavity 121. Thecover member 30 is fastened to themain enclosure 10 via thelatch holes 1211. Theend wall 13 defines a throughhole 131. The throughhole 131 is used to receive connecting cables, thus electrically connecting theQWERTY keyboard assembly 20 to themain enclosure 10. Theend wall 13 further defines twoclamp holes 132 at opposite sides of the throughhole 131. - The
QWERTY keyboard assembly 20 includes a printed circuit board (PCB) 21, akeypad plate 22, and aconnector 23. Thekeypad plate 22 is substantially a thin sheet. Thekeypad plate 22 is attached to the printedcircuit board 21 such that signals can be inputted via thekeypad plate 22. One end of theconnector 23 is electrically connected to thePCB 21, the other is electrically connected to themain enclosure 10 through the throughhole 131. In this embodiment, theconnector 23 may be a bent resilient sheet. - The
cover member 30 can be a battery cover of the portableelectronic device 100. Thecover member 30 includes abase sheet 31 and aside sheet 32. Theside sheet 32 is connected to thebase sheet 31. Thebase sheet 31 includes anouter wall 311 and ainner wall 312 on another side of thebase sheet 31 opposite to theouter wall 311. Thebase sheet 31 further includes a plurality ofprotrusions 3111 protruding from theouter wall 311, corresponding to thelatch holes 1211. Theprotrusions 3111 are able to latch in thelatch holes 1211. Thebase sheet 31 defines a plurality offirst fastening holes 3112 away from theside sheet 32. Thefastening holes 3112 are used to engage with one of thefastening assemblies 50. Theinner wall 312 defines a receivinggroove 3121. The receivinggroove 3121 is used to partially receive theholder 40. Theside sheet 32 includes twolatching poles 321 protruding outwards. The twolatching poles 321 face thebase sheet 31, corresponding to theclamp holes 132. Thelatching poles 321 latch into theclamp holes 132 correspondingly. Theside sheet 32 further defines a plurality ofsecond fastening holes 322. Thefastening holes 322 are used to engage with theother fastening assembly 50. - The
holder 40 includes apositioning portion 41, a connectingportion 42, and a receivingportion 43. The connectingportion 42 connects thepositioning portion 41 and thereceiving portion 43, and thereceiving portion 43 can rotate around the connectingportion 42, relative to thepositioning portion 41. The connectingportion 42 may be a typical hinge (schematically shown). The connectingportion 42 defines threemounting holes 421, corresponding to thelatching poles 321. Thepositioning portion 41 defines threesecuring holes 411, corresponding to thefirst fastening holes 3112. Thereceiving portion 43 defines anaccommodating cavity 431, used to receive theQWERTY keyboard assembly 20. - The
fastening assembly 50 includes threetypical screws 51 and afastening plate 52. Thefastening plate 52 defines three screw holes 521. Thefastening plate 52 are engageable by thescrews 51 correspondingly. Thefastening assembly 50 is used to mount theholder 40 to thecover member 30. - In assembly, the
QWERTY keyboard assembly 20 is inserted into theaccommodating cavity 431 of thereceiving portion 43. The positioningportion 41 of the receivingportion 43 is inserted into the receivinggroove 3121, then thepositioning portion 41 and the connectingportion 42 are secured to thecover member 30 with the twofastening assemblies 50. Thecover member 30 is latched to themain enclosure 10, with the latchingpoles 321 latched in the clamp holes 132 and theprotrusions 3111 latched in the latch holes 1211 correspondingly. TheQWERTY keyboard assembly 20 can be rotated about the connectingportion 42, thus folded over thedisplay screen 111. To use theQWERTY keyboard assembly 20, theQWERTY keyboard assembly 20 is rotated about the connectingportion 42 until theQWERTY keyboard assembly 20 is parallel with thedisplay screen 111. As a result, input signals can be inputted via the 20 simultaneously while viewing thedisplay screen 111. - It is to be understood, the
side sheet 32 and thecorresponding fastening assembly 50 can be omitted. - It is to be understood, however, that even through numerous characteristics and advantages of the present disclosure have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and function of the disclosure, the disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in detail, especially in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of sections within the principles of the disclosure to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms, in which the appended claims are expressed.
