Abstract
Description
- (a) Field of the Invention
- The present invention relates to game machines and more particularly, to a thrower for use in a game machine to throw an object in any selected direction.
- (b) Description of the Prior Art
- Many game machines, such as basketball machine, baseball machine, dartboard game machine, etc., are known for playing a throwing action. When using a throwing game machine, the player must throw the ball or dart by hand. There is also known a throwing game machine in which the player must throw a ball, coin or token to a predetermined location by spring means or the like for a striking action. However, this kind of throwing game machine simply allows throwing of a ball, coin or token in one particular direction or one of a limited number of directions. Because this kind of throwing game machine does not allow adjustment of the throwing angle and direction, it cannot increase the level of difficulty of the game task or enhance the entertainment effect.
- The present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view. It is one object of the present invention to provide a thrower for coin-throwing game machine, which allows quick and accurate adjustment of the throwing angle in any direction.
- To achieve this and other objects of the present invention, a thrower used in a game machine comprises a joystick, a thrower holder, a tilting bar, a swinging bar and a connection frame. The joystick comprises a stick and a base. The base holds an induction switch at the bottom side thereof. The induction switch is controllable by the stick. The thrower holder holds an electromagnetic valve on the bottom side. The electromagnetic valve is controllable by the induction switch to throw an object away from the thrower holder. The tilting bar is pivotally coupled between the joystick and the thrower holder and movable by the joystick to bias the thrower holder in Y-axis direction. The swinging bar is pivotally coupled between the joystick and the connection frame and movable by the joystick to bias the thrower holder in X-axis direction. The connection frame is pivotally coupled between the swinging bar and the thrower holder.

FIG. 10 corresponds toFIG. 9 , showing the housing opened from the thrower. - As shown in
FIGS. 1-3 , a thrower for game machine in accordance with the present invention comprises ajoystick 1, athrower holder 2, atilting bar 3, aswinging bar 4 and aconnection frame 5. - The
joystick 1, as shown inFIG. 4 , comprises astick 11 and a base, which is formed of afixed plate 12, amovable plate 13, adisplacement block 14 and anactuating plate 15. Thestick 11 is inserted in proper order through thefixed plate 12, themovable plate 13 and thedisplacement block 14. Thejoystick 1 further comprises a locatingframe 16 affixed to thefixed plate 12, aswitch holder 17 affixed to the bottom wall of the locatingframe 16 and aninduction switch 18 mounted in theswitch holder 17. Thefixed plate 12, themovable plate 13 and thedisplacement block 14 each have a throughhole stick 11. Thestick 11 has aneck 111 coupled to the throughhole 141 of thedisplacement block 14, an axiallymovable tip 112 disposed at the bottom side, and acontrol button 113 disposed at the top side and operable to move thetip 112. Thefixed plate 12 has apivot hole 122 located on each of the front and rear sides thereof in Y-axis direction. Thedisplacement block 14 has apivot hole 142 located on each of the left and right sides thereof in X-axis direction. Themovable plate 13 has apivot hole 132 located on each of the front and rear sides thereof in Y-axis direction and pivotally coupled to thepivot hole 122 of thefixed plate 12, apivot hole 133 located on each of the left and right sides thereof in X-axis direction and respectively pivotally coupled to thepivot holes 142 on thedisplacement block 14. The actuatingplate 15 is mounted in theswitch holder 17, having anextension strip 151 disposed at one side for touching thetriggering button 181 of theinduction switch 18 and a concave bearingportion 152 disposed at the other side and vertically stopped against thetip 112 of thestick 11. The player can operate thecontrol button 113 to control the extension and retraction of thetip 112. When the player presses thecontrol button 113, thetip 112 is forced outwards against the concave bearingportion 152 of the actuatingplate 15 to trigger thetriggering button 181 of theinduction switch 18, thereby turning on an electromagnetic valve 22 (this will be described further). - The
thrower holder 2, as shown inFIG. 3 , is pivotally coupled to thecasing 20, having a throughhole 23 cut through the top and bottom sides thereof, aguide block 21 fixedly mounted on the top side and anelectromagnetic valve 22 mounted on the bottom side. Theguide block 21 defines therein aretaining groove 211 in communication with the throughhole 23 for holding an object to be thrown (for example, coin or token 6), having astop member 212 disposed in the retaining groove 211 (seeFIG. 5 ) and asubstrate 213 mounted on the back side. Thesubstrate 213 carries asensor switch 214 adapted to detect the presence of atoken 6 in the stand-by position. Theelectromagnetic valve 22 has avalve rod 221 insertable through the throughhole 23 and the retaining groove 211 (seeFIG. 5 ). Further, aball socket 24 is provided at the front side of thethrower holder 2 to hold thetilting bar 3. - The
tilting bar 3, as shown inFIG. 3 , has aball 31 disposed at its one end and pivotally coupled to theball socket 24 at the front side of thethrower holder 2 and aball socket 32 disposed at its other end and pivotally coupled to thedisplacement block 14 of thejoystick 1. According to the present preferred embodiment, thetilting bar 3 is an L-shaped bar. When thestick 11 of thejoystick 1 is tilted back and forth (seeFIG. 6 ), thedisplacement block 14 is driven to tilt thetilting bar 3, thereby lifting or lowering thethrower holder 2 to change the sloping angle of theguide block 21 as desired. - The swinging
bar 4 is a long straight bar having its one end pivotally coupled to alug 134 at themovable plate 13 of thejoystick 1 and its other end pivotally coupled to theconnection frame 5. When thestick 11 of thejoystick 1 is tilted leftwards or rightwards (seeFIG. 7 ), themovable plate 13 is driven to bias theswinging bar 4, causing theconnection frame 5 to bias the thrower holder 2 leftwards or rightwards. - The
connection frame 5, as shown inFIG. 3 , is a U-shaped frame bar pivotally coupled to thethrower holder 2, having alug 51 disposed at its one side remote from thethrower holder 2 and pivotally coupled to the swingingbar 4. Therefore, when the player swings theswinging bar 4, thethrower holder 2 is synchronously biased. - After the
joystick 1, thethrower holder 2, thetilting bar 3, theswinging bar 4 and theconnection frame 5 have been assembled to create a thrower, a coin ortoken 6 can be inserted into theretaining groove 211 of thethrower holder 2. After one coin ortoken 6 is inserted into theretaining groove 211 of thethrower holder 2, the player can tilt thestick 11 of thejoystick 1 back and forth and/or left and right, causing thetilting bar 3 or the swingingbar 4 to tilt thethrower holder 2, thereby changing the sloping angle of thethrower holder 2 in the X-axis or Y-axis direction. After adjustment of the sloping angle of thethrower holder 2, the player can operate thejoystick 1 to switch on theinduction switch 18, causing thevalve rod 221 of theelectromagnetic valve 22 to strike the coin ortoken 6 away from theretaining groove 211 of theguide block 21 toward the desired direction (seeFIG. 8 ). Thus, one throwing task is done. - Further, the thrower is accommodated in a
housing 7 that has internal frame boards for the mounting of the component parts of the thrower. After installation, thestick 11 of thejoystick 1 extends out of thehousing 7. Further, ashading plate 114 is fixedly mounted on the periphery of thestick 11 and kept in proximity to the bottom surface of the top panel of thehousing 7 to keep the inside of thehousing 7 from sight. Further, thehousing 7 has at least onecoin slot 71 and a coin-return device 72. Further, thehousing 7 has atrack 73 located on the inside for guiding an inserted coin or token 6 from thecoin slot 71 to the retaininggroove 211 of theguide block 21 at thethrower holder 2 for throwing. - The structure of the
joystick 1 is substantially similar to similar conventional designs, comprised of theaforesaid stick 11, fixedplate 12,movable plate 13,displacement block 14, actuatingplate 15, locatingframe 16,switch holder 17 andinduction switch 18. Further, the arrangement of thetip 112 andcontrol button 113 of thestick 11 is also of the known design. Therefore, no further detailed description of thejoystick 1 is necessary. Further, other modifications and changes may be made to thejoystick 1 without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. - Referring to
FIG. 9 , the thrower is mounted with thehousing 7 and used in a coin-throwinggame machine 8, and operable to throw coins ortokens 6 ontocarrier plates 81 in the coin-throwinggame machine 8. When the weight of coins ortokens 6 accumulated on onecarrier plate 81 surpasses a predetermined value, thecarrier plate 81 will be turned over, causing the accumulated coins ortokens 6 to fall. Thus, the player can earn all the fallen coins ortokens 6 or an equivalent coupon as a prize. Therefore, the invention increases the level of difficulty of the game task and enhances the entertainment effect. - Referring to
FIG. 10 , thehousing 7 can be turned outwards relative to the thrower to facilitate maintenance. Sound and light generating circuit means may be installed in the coin-throwinggame machine 8 to crease sound and light effects. - Further, the thrower of the present invention is not limited to the application for throwing coins or
tokens 6. Alternatively, the thrower can be modified to change the design of thetrack 73 and thethrower holder 2 for throwing balls or any other objects. - Although a particular embodiment of the invention has been described in detail for purposes of illustration, various modifications and enhancements may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the invention is not to be limited except as by the appended claims.
