Abstract
A rifle bedding block is a one-piece, unitary structure that incorporates an integral magazine aperture and an integral trigger guard. The unitary structure enhances rifle performance and makes the rifle more easily broken down and re-assembled when such is desired or required. An added advantage is that such a structure also eliminates any height differential relative to a magazine that is received within the integral magazine aperture and the height of the action.
Description
- This application claims the benefit and priority of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61/322,512 filed Apr. 9, 2010.
- This invention relates generally to rifles, both of the sporting type and the military type. More particularly, it relates to a single piece bedding block of the type that is attachable to a rifle stock, the bedding block including an integral magazine and trigger guard assembly.
- Rifles are typically configured to include a barrel and a receiver, the receiver being coupled to the rearward end of the barrel and comprising an action. In some configurations, a float is interposed between the barrel and the action. The rifle also typically includes a stock with an action mounting portion that includes a bedding block having an upper surface upon which the action and receiver rest. The bedding block is typically part of the stock, but need not be.
- In the view of this inventor, there is a need to configure a bedding block as a one-piece, unitary structure that would incorporate an integral magazine aperture and an integral trigger guard. Such a unitary structure can enhance rifle performance and make the rifle more easily broken down and re-assembled when such is desired or required. An added advantage is that such a structure also eliminates any height differential relative to a magazine that is received within the integral magazine aperture and the height of the action.
- Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a new and useful rifle bedding block that is a one-piece and unitary structure. It is another object to provide such a bedding block with an integrally-formed magazine aperture. It is yet another object to provide such a bedding block with an integrally-formed trigger guard.
- The device and assembly of the present invention has obtained these objects. It provides for a rifle bedding block that is a unitary structure, which bedding block further comprises an integrally-formed magazine aperture and an integrally-formed trigger guard.
- The foregoing and other features of the device of the present invention will be apparent from the detailed description that follows.
-
FIG. 1 is a rear, bottom and side perspective view of the bedding block that is constructed in accordance with the present invention. -
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the bedding block shown inFIG. 1 . -
FIG. 3 is a left side elevational view of the bedding block shown inFIGS. 1 and 2 . - Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein like numbers represent like elements throughout,
FIG. 1 illustrates generally a perspective view of a bedding block, generally identified 10, as it would be constructed in accordance with the present invention. As shown inFIGS. 2 and 3 , thebedding block 10 comprises aforward portion 12, amiddle portion 14 and arearward portion 16. Thebedding block 10 further comprises atop surface 11 at theforward portion 12 and abottom surface 13. - The
top surface 11 of theforward portion 12 of thebedding block 10 is configured to support afloat 30 on it (seeFIG. 1 ), whereas thebottom surface 13 is configured to rest adjacent a portion of the rifle stock (not shown). In this fashion, theforward portion 12 is effectively “sandwiched” between thefloat 30 and the rifle stock. Theforward portion 12 of thebedding block 10 further comprises a substantiallyvertical aperture 22 that extends fully through thatportion 12 from thetop surface 11 and thebottom surface 13 for securing thebedding block 10 and float 30 to the rifle stock (not shown) using a fastener (also not shown). - The
bedding block 10 similarly comprises atop surface 15 at the middle andrear portions bottom surface 17, also at those portions. A substantially verticalsecond aperture 24 is also provided for securing anaction 40 to thebedding block 10. SeeFIG. 2 . Specifically, thetop surface 15 is functionally adapted to have secured to it therifle action 40 as is shown inFIG. 1 . - The
middle portion 14 of thebedding block 10 comprises a generally vertically-oriented, centrally-disposed and rectangularly-shaped magazine aperture 26. SeeFIG. 2 in particular. Themagazine aperture 26 extends through thatportion 14 of thebedding block 10 from thetop surface 15 to thebottom surface 17 and is functionally adapted to receive anammunition magazine 50 in it. - At the
rear portion 16 of thebedding block 10, and extending downwardly from thebottom surface 17 of it, is anintegral trigger guard 18. SeeFIG. 3 . Above thetrigger guard 18 is anaperture 28 for receiving thetrigger 48 of theaction 40 therethrough. Again, seeFIGS. 1 and 2 . - In the preferred embodiment, the
bedding block 10 is formed of a single piece of machined metal material. The fact that theblock 10 is a unitary one-piece structure is a limitation of the present invention. - Based on the forgoing, it will be seen that there has been provided a new and useful rifle bedding block that is a unitary structure, which bedding block further comprises an integrally-formed magazine aperture and an integrally-formed trigger guard.
