Abstract
The submitted design has same functions and usage as conventional drill heads. It consists of two parts, a solid and a recess truncated cone with 4 sets of troughs and teeth. The two parts are locked together with 4 slotted spring pins. The highly worn drill head can be detached and replaced even with one of different size or different type if needed. Such design feature is thus highly versatile and economical.
The design ensures even distribution and absorption of impact force and torque. The integrity of the whole structure while drilling is thus maintained.
Description
- This invention relates to a type of product for boring holes. The tool is indispensable in mining and engineering and is designed to be highly efficient, time saving and cost effective.
- Commercially available drill heads enjoy numerous varieties and diversified styles with the sole aim of meeting the need and satisfaction of the mass clients. A time consuming step in any drilling process is the change of drill head. Furthermore, a whole conventional drill head currently is replaced after certain period of usage due to wear and tear of the inserts. A design that enables rapid exchange and re-use of part of the original drill head could drive down both time and material costs.
- FIG. 1—this is a structure explanation to the structural parts of the submitted design
- FIG. 2—this is a crosscut explanation to the inside looking of the structural parts
- FIG. 3—this is overall drawing to display the whole of Detachable Drill Bit
- FIG. 4—this is to display the Detachable Drill Bit after assembly
- To address the aforementioned issues, the present invention adopts a two-part design such that the highly worn part can be detached and replaced.
- The technical solutions provided in accordance with the present invention are as follows: The whole assembly is comprised of Main Body and Detachable Head.
- (A) Main Body: The splines (
FIG. 1-iii ) is connected to a percussion device/plunger at the back. The front end is an exposed solid truncated cone with inclination of six degree (6°) (FIG. 1-i ). Around the base of the cone are 4 troughs. (FIG. 1-ii ) - (B) Detachable head: Inserts are placed at the front (
FIG. 1-v ) and the back portion has a recessed truncated cone with inclination of six degree) (6°) (FIG. 2-vi ). Around the base of the recessed cone are four teeth (FIG. 1-vii ). - (C) The mating (FIG. 2-C)of the main body and detachable head through the solid and recessed truncated cone counters the impact force due to drilling and maintains the integrity of the whole structure. Whereas the mating of the four teeth and troughs counters the independent rotation of the two parts caused by the torque while drilling. As a whole, the structure functions similar to any other conventional drill head.
- (D) 4 slotted spring pins (
FIG. 2-D ) are used to lock both the main body and detachable head together through the pre-drilled holes in the 4 teeth and in the base with troughs (FIG. 1.-iv) - Drill head assembly:
- i. Exposed solid truncated cone with an inclination of six degrees)(6°)
- ii. 4 troughs around base of the cone with (iv. Pre-drilled holes for slotted pins)
- iii. Splines
- iv. 4 sets of pre-drilled holes for slotted spring pins
- Detachable head:
- v. Inserts
- vi. Recessed truncated cone with an inclination of six degrees)(6°)
- vii. 4 teeth around base of the cone with (iv. Pre-drilled holes for slotted pins)
- viii. Flush
- The whole structure is composed of both main body and detachable head. The two parts are mated through the truncated solid and recessed cone. Independent rotation of the two parts is prevented by the mating of both teeth and troughs. Finally, the two parts are locked together by 4 slotted spring pins.
- Given above is a detailed description of a practicable application of the drill head of the present invention. It illustrates an example of application rather than setting the scope of the patent protection for the new drill head. Any similar and equivalent application, alteration, structural dimensions and characteristics not departing from that of the new drill head shall fall inclusively within the scope of patent protection for the present invention.
Claims (1)
1. I claim a detachable drill bit comprising: main body and detachable head
The main body consists of a solid truncated cone with an inclination of 6°, 4 troughs at the base of the cone, a flat spline connected to a percussion device/plunger.
The detachable head consists of a recessed truncated cone with an inclination of 6°, inserts and 4 teeth at the base of the recessed cone.
The mating of the main body and detachable head through the solid and recessed truncated cone counters the impact force due to drilling and maintains the integrity of the whole structure.
The mating of the four teeth and troughs counters the independent rotation of the two parts caused by the torque while drilling
4 slotted spring pins are used to lock both the main body and detachable head together through the pre-drilled holes in the 4 teeth and in the base with troughs
In accordance with the claims thereof:
The characteristics features of the above-mentioned new design drill head are found on its main body and detachable head. The mating of solid and recessed cone, together with the teeth and troughs results in a drill head. The two parts are locked together with 4 slotted spring pins. This is the way the Detachable Drill Bit set forth in claim is assembled.
