This invention relates to a combination cape, mat, and bag, and more particularly to a novel accessory for bathing use.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide a bath mat of such construction that it may be worn as a beach cape and will contain pockets which may be used for the storage of a bathing suit, cap and slippers, as well as for housing cigarettes, matches, change, etc.

Another object is to furnish a beach accessory which may be readily carried on the arm while containing a bathing outfit which may be donned as a cape after donning the bathing suit and which may be employed as a beach mat while taking a sun bath.

A further object is to supply a beach cape having slits to receive the wearer's arms, which slits are of such shape as to practically cover the arm holes when the cape is used as a spread or mat.

With the foregoing objects outlined and with other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings,

Fig. 1 is a plan view of the article viewed from one side thereof.

Fig. 2 is a similar view, viewed from the opposite side.

Fig. 3 is a. front view of the article when worn as a beach cape.

Fig. 4 is a similar view from the rear.

Fig. 5 is a view showing the article folded and carried by an arm ring.

In the drawings 6 designates a piece or sheet of some suitable textile material, such as toweling or the like. ,This sheet may be made of one or more thicknesses and may be plain on one side as shown in Fig. 1, and figured on the other side as shown at I, Fig. 2. While the sheet may have various outlines, I prefer to make it of rectangular form and in two of the comers, on one side of the sheet, I place pockets 8 which may be lined with waterproof fabric and be closed by any suitable fastening means, such as slide fasteners 9. While the article is being used as a bag for bathing accessories, these pockets may house a bathing suit, cap and slippers.

The opposite comers of the sheet on the opposite side of the sheet are provided with smaller hand pockets I0, closed, if desired by any suitable fastening means, such as slide fasteners.

' The medial portion of the sheet is provided with a pair of arch-shaped slits l2, the ends of which are directed toward one another. The slits, as shown in Fig. 1, are preferably arranged closer to one side edge of the sheet than the other.

As best shown in Fig. 5, when the bathing garments, etc., are stored within one of the pockets 8, the sheet 6 may be folded and may be carried on the arm by means of a metal or other ring l3. When the user reaches the place for bath- 1o ing, the bathing garments are removed from one of the pockets 8 and donned by the wearer. Then cigarettes, matches, change or the like may be placed in the other pocket 8 and the sheet may be thrown over the shoulders as illustrated 15 in Figs. 3 and 4. At such time a shallow fold may be made in one edge portion of the sheet so as to form a collar l4 and the arms of the wearer will be slipped through the slits 12. For

If the user should decide to take a sun bath, the cape can be removed and be spread out on the beach and at such time the fastening devices 9 and I I will prevent sand from entering the pock- 25 ets and the arc-shaped walls of the slits will prevent sand from working through the slits.

Of course, after bathing, the bathing garments can be wrung out to remove excessive moisture and they may then be placed in one of the water- 1% proof pockets 8, and the article can be readily folded and carried on the ring as shown in Fig. 5.

From the foregoing it will be understood that I have designed a novel article particularly use- Bil ful as a bathing accessory, and while I have disclosed what I now consider to be a preferred embodiment of the invention in such manner that it may be readily understood, I am aware that changes may be made in the details described and 40 illustrated, without departing from the spirit of the invention as expressed in the claims.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: 45

1. A combined cape, bag and mat, comprising a sheet of flexible material having its medial portion provided with substantially arc-shaped slits, such slits being spaced apart a sufllcient distance to permit the portion of the sheet between the slits to rest on the wearer's shoulders while the arms of the wearer extend through the slits, said slits being arranged closer to one side edge of the sheet than the other, and pockets on the sheet between the slits and the ends of the sheet, said and the pockets being positioned in corners of the sheet.

2. A combination cape, bag and mat, comprising a substantially rectangular sheet of textile material provided with a pair of slits, said slits being spaced apart a distance approximately equal to the width of the wearer's shoulders. said slits sheet being substantially rectangular in shape being arranged closer to one side edge of the sheet than the other, and extending substantially transversely of the sheet to form arm holes while the medial portion of the sheet is resting on the shoulders of the wearer, and pockets positioned on the sheet between said slits and the ends of the sheet.
