Claims.

A further object is to provide a detachable 1o crotch strap for rectal dressings which is formed to fit loosely and comfortably.

A further object is to provide a girdle supporting shields and dressings which will relieve the wearer of embarrassment due to the prominence of the left side of the abdomen due to a colostomy.

A further object is to provide shoulder and leg straps for holding'the girdle in place so that it will not twist or move the dressings out of place.

A further object is to provide a covering for the leg straps which may be quickly and easily removed and changed.

A further object is to provide a garment that is thin and cool but firm and comfortable and without staves, and simple to launder. 2.5 With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it 30 being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention'. 35 The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:--

45 It is sometimes necessary that surgical operations be performed removing the lower end of the large intestine and closing the rectal opening. The end of the lower bowel remaining after the operation is then brought through an open- 50 ing made in the left side of the abdominal wall and healed to the outer circumference of this opening, thereby providing an outlet for the waste material of the body which ordinarily would find an outlet through the rectum. After 55 an operation of this kind it is essential that means he provided for holding dressings for the rectal operation. It is also necessary that means be provided for supporting dressings and shields covering the abdominal colostomy. This girdle is designed to provide comfort for the wearer as 5 well as toprovide a positive means for holding the necessary dressings in the proper places.-

By referring to the drawing it will be seen that the girdle comprises a front panel I, a back panel 2, back side panels 3, and front side panels .4. 10

When the garment is being placed in position for wearing shoulder straps 5 and 6 are placed over the shoulders. It will be seen that the back portions of the straps 5 and 6 are held in spaced relation to each other by means of a connecting 15 strap .1. It willalso be seen that the lower end 8 of the strap 6 issecured to the left side panel 4 directly above a fastening edge 9 so that the left side of the garment will be held in a position for easy fastening when the dressings are in place. 0 It will also be seen that the front panel I is. provided with a fastening strip III, and while the drawing shows the fastening edges secured by means of buttons, any desirable fasteners, such as hooks and eyes, snaps, etc., may be used.

By referring to the drawing it will be seen that the front panel I is provided with a detachable shield II. It will be seen that there is also pro-. vided a detachable dressing shield. I2 which is secured at its bottom edge- I3 to the girdle. It will be seen that the bottom edge I3 of the dressing shield I2 extends below a lower curved edge I4 of the front panel I in order to prevent soiling of the panel I.

In order to prevent the girdle from slipping upwardly there is provided leg straps I5 which are protected by means of detachable coverings I6, which are left free at the back. By referring to Figure 3 it will be seen that the detachable covering I6 is provided with a closed end having a relatively small opening I! for the reception of a hook I8 on the leg strap I5. The leg straps I5 are preferably made of elastic and the covering I6 prevents their becoming soiled. These leg straps are attached in any suitable manner to the, front panel I and at the seams between the back and front side panels 3 and 4.

It will also be seen that there is provided a crotch strap I9 which is secured at one end to the edge I4 of the front panel I and at the other cured to said girdle, leg straps attached to said girdle in order to hold said girdle firm against body and to prevent slipping, a-shield securedto said front panel, and a dressmgishield'secured to lower edge of said front panel for holding dressings in place, said dressing shield extending below the curved lower edge of said front panel to prevent soiling of said girdle, an extended member on said back panel, a crotch strap attached to said front panel and to said extended member on backpanel for the purpose of holding rectal dressings in place.

A colostomy girdle formed with a front and back panel and front and backside panels, fastening means for said girdle, shoulder straps se cured to said girdle, leg straps attached to said girdle in order to hold said girdle firm against body and to prevent slipping, said back panel and back side panels having their lower edges formed with a pronounced curve to remove pressure from buttocks, a shield secured to said front panel, a dressing shield secured to lower edge of said front panel for holding dressings in place,

said dressing shield extending below the curved lower edge of said front panel to prevent soiling of said girdle.

3. A colostomy girdle formed with a front and back panel and front and back side panels, fastening means for said girdle, shoulder straps secured to said girdle, leg straps attached to said girdle in order to hold said girdle firm against body and to prevent slipping, said back panel and back side panels having their lower edges formed with a pronounced curved to remove pressure from buttocks, a shield secured to said front panel, a dressing shield secured to lower edge of said front panel for holding dressings in place, said dressing shield extending below the curved lower edge of said front panel to prevent soiling of said girdle, means for fastening garters to said girdle.

A colostomy girdle formed with a front and back panel and front and back side panels, fastening means for said girdle, shoulder straps secured to said girdle, detachable leg straps for said girdle in order to hold said girdle firm against body and to prevent slipping, detachable coverings protecting said leg straps, said coverings having a small opening in one end for the reception of a fastener on said detachable leg straps, a shieldsecured tosaid front panel, a dressing shield secured to lower edge of said front panel for holding dressings in place, said dressing shield extending below the curved lower edge of said front panel to prevent soiling of said girdle, an

extended member on s'aid back panel, a crotch strap attached to said front panel and to said extended member on back panel for the purpose of holding rectal dressings in place, means for fastening garters to said girdle.

'5. A colostomy girdle formed with a front and back panel and front and back side panels, fastening strips on said front panel and left front side panel, shoulder straps secured to said girdle, a connecting strap between back portions of said shoulder straps to prevent straps from slipping off shoulders, said left shoulder strap secured directly above fastening strip on said front side panel in order to hold the left side of the girdle in position for fastening, detachable leg straps for said girdle for holding said girdle firm against body and to prevent slipping, detachable coverings protecting said leg straps, a shield secured to said front panel, a dressing shield secured to lower edge of said front panel for holding dressings in place, an extended member on said back panel, a detachable crotch strap attached to said front panel and tosaid extended member on back panel for the purpose of holding rectal dressings in place, means for fastening garters to said girdle.
