Patented May 19, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a display stand for displaying various kinds of articles, the general object of the invention being to provide a base supporting the shelf carrying upright of the stand and provided with legs for firmly supporting the device on a floor or the like, with manually operated means for lowering caster members into engagement with the floor and to raise the legs off the floor so that the stand can be readily l0 moved from place to place.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of several parts, tobe hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device with the caster members in raised position.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal vsectiona view through portions of the upright.
Figure 3 is a, top plan view of the base.
Figure 4 is a section on the line II-II of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5 5 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a view of the rod for pulling the stand from place to place after the caster members have been lowered.
Figures 7 and 8 are views showing different types of base members which can be used with the device.
In these drawings the numeral I indicates a base member which has a flange member 2 on its lower face at the center thereof, the depending portion of which is threaded to receive the threaded lower end of a tubular post 3 which passes through a centrally arranged hole in the base. A reducer 4 is connected to the upper end of the post 3 and' receives the lower end of a smaller post 5 which is also of tubular construction. A rod 6 passes through the two posts and has its lower end projecting from the lower end of the post 3 and a disk I is connected to said lower end of the rod. A plurality of arms or levers 8 have their inner ends connected to the disk by the eccentric pins 9 and each arm is pivoted to a leg I0 extending downwardly from the base. A depending stud II is connected to the outer end of each arm or lever and has a socket I2 at its lower end for receiving a ball I3, these sockets and balls forming caster members. The upper end of the rod B is threaded as shown at 6' and projects from the upper end of the small post 5 and a nut I4 is threaded on said part 6' and contacts the upper end of the post 5 so that by turning this nut III in one direction the rod 6 will be moved vertically upwardly so as to raise the disk 'I which rocks the arms or levers 8 so 5 that the caster members will engage the floor and raise the legs III ofi the floor and thus the device can be readily transported from one place to another.
In o-rder to facilitate movement of the device lo I provide an elongated rod I5 which has one end slightly bent and provided with a projection IS and a hole I'I, the hole being adapted to receive any one of a number of downwardly extending pins I8 on the base. Thus by placing the hole 15 I'I over one of the pins I8 with the projection I6 engaging a part of the periphery of the base the handle rod I5 is connected with the base so that the entire device can be" readily moved from one place to another when the caster members are 2'0 engaging the floor with the legs I0 off the floor. As will be understood when the legs are resting on the floor and the caster members are in raised position the stand will be firmly supported and there isv no danger of it being accidentally moved 25 out of position.
Any number of shelves I 9 can be connected with either or both of the posts 3 and 5 by the set screw 20 as shown in Figure 1 and the upper end of the rod 6 may have a frame 2| attached there- 30 to for holding a price card or the like.
I may also provide additional base members of different shape as shown at 22 and 23 in Figures 7 and 8, each of these members having a centrally arranged hole 24 therein for receiving 35 the upright.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily app-arent.
It is to be understood that changes may be 40 made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:- 45
A device of the class described comprising a base, a, tubular upright rising from the base, legs depending from the base, levers pivoted to the legs adjacent the outer ends of said levers, caster members connected with the outer ends of said le- 50 vers, a member connected to the inner ends of said levers, a rod passing through the tubular upright and connected with the member, the upper end of the rod being threaded and projecting from the top of the upright, and a nut 55 threaded on said threaded portion and contacting the upper end of the upright.
