1 Claim. I.(Cl.. 2li-261) This invention relates to paper clips and the like and has for its object to provide a simple, novel and eiective spring clip made of a single piece of spring wire and one that may be readily applied to al plurality of sheets of paper or similar articles for securing them together.
Various expedients have been resorted to, to increase the gripping power of paper clips, over those made oi plain wire having a circular cross section. My improvements are directedv to similar ends and comprise the employment of wire hav= ing a polygonal cross section and which wire is twisted so as to produce helical ribs, which are highly ecient in gripping the papers to which Referring to the drawing, Figure 1 shows a front view of a clip embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 is a front view similar to that of Fig. l, but to a larger scale to show more clearly my improvements,
Figs. 4', 5, 6 and 7 include a series of enlarged 5 so sh'own it in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. Said wire is twist- 10 ed, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 so as to produce a plurality of helically disposed ribs 2 which I have -found to be particularly efiicient in gripping paper or other sheets to which the clip is applied.
I claim: l5
A paper clip comprising a section of wire, the opposite ends of which terminate in U-shaped portions, the intermediate portion of said wire -being bent to U-shape so as to locate the said U-shaped portions in nested and operative rela- 20 tion with respect to each other, and the wire of said clip being of polygonal cross section twisted to provide a plurality oi.' helical ribs.
