I Selma M. Bnrleigh, Albany, it. Y. Application s n 11, 1935, Serial No. 16,894 i 1 Claim. (01; 132-45) This invention relates to an ear Qprotector,
m'ainly designed for use when one is undergoing being used and the parts of which are adjustable so that the device can be made to fit persons of. diflerent sizes.
Another object of the invention is to so construct and arrange the parts that the device can 1 be removed without disturbing the hair and which will not cause discomfort to the wearer and which will protect the of the user from hot air from This invention-also consists, in. certain other features 0! construction and in the combination. andarrangement of several parts, to be herein after fully described, illustrated in the accom M r e drawing and specifically pointed outin the appended claim.
v In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a view looking towards the exterior iaceofanearguardandshowinghowthetwo bands extend into the guard. 3o Fig.3isa-sectiononlineHof Fig.2and
showinghowtheearguardreceivesanearofthe wearer.
In this drawing, the letter A- indicates an'eye shield which is provided with a band I at itsupper edge,'thisbandbeing iormedwithth'erestof the shield or can be suitably connected therewith.
. me ends of the band are extended and the side edges of the extended portions are notched as showat I. The earshieldsorguardsareshown mhtBhhdQGChKilfldiSfOlMdOfBbOdYlhhVihfl a lining l with portions of the lining separated fromthebodytoforma pocket I. Theearguard and its lining forms a recess for comfortably receivingthearasshowninl'lgii. Aslottis formed in the upper portion of the front side of each ear guard for receiving the notched end of theband I. Aswillbeseenbyinsertingtheends of the band I more or less into the slots t, the earsuardscanbeproperlyadiusted withtheeye 5o shield'tosuitthewea'rer.
slots'lareformedintbelowerendsoftheear guards and open into the pocketsslots are adapted to receive the resilient band {which passes underthe front portion of the neck of the useradiacent the lower part of the chin and as shown in Fig. 3, the ends of this'band! are '5 pressed outwardly as shown at! so. that by bending the end-portions'o! the band 8, the ends can 'be readily passed throughthe slots :1 and pushed the desired distance into the pockets 5 and then the resiliency of the band 8 will hold the pm in 0. adjusted position, the frictional engagement of the end portions .of the band. with parts of theear guards holding the parts together in adjusted position. v
I prefer to use the device with a cap formed of 15 net material with a resilient edge, said edge being slipped over the band I and the upper ends of the ear guards'so that the' hair of the user will notbe disturbed bythe blower or fan or hot air device when the samelsbeingused.
All of the parts are formed of material of low cost so that the device can be thrown away after being used once and as willbe seen;.the parts are adjusted to iit diflerent individuals. I prefer to form the ear guards-of paper pulp or parchment g5 and by sliding the end portions of the resilient bandiupordowninthepockets ,thepressme of the upper and lower portions of the ear guards againstthewearercanbemgulatedandeach earguardissoshaped thattherearenopointsm' and corners into which scissors orloombs may catch. v 1
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel" features of the.invention will be readily apparent "lti tobeunderstood that .in the construction and in combination .and arrangement of the several parts, provided'that 'thebodvparttoformapockehthelowerendot each guard having a slot therein openinginto the pocket. a bowed resilient strip having its end portions entering the slots and frlctionallyens s'insthepocket-formingportionsofthelining. 5Q
