HANGER FOR TROUSERS Fji le d Feb. 5, 19:55
q TTU NE Patented Jan. 5, 1937 ETD STTE 3 Claims.
This invention relates generally to hangers for clothing, and particularly to a hanger for trousers.
The main object of this invention is the provision of an exceedingly simple and efficient form of support for mens trousers by means of which the trousers may be held in a suspended position right side up and also that a plurality of trousers may be so suspended in a manner that each pair will bereadily accessible.
The second object is to construct a trouser support which lends itself to permanent mounting on a door or wall or to a portable mounting for traveling purposes, it being desirable to provide an adjustable relationship between the opposite ends of the support.
I accomplish these and other objects in the manner set forth in the following specification as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of one form of the device showing the support broken away in vertical section.
Fig. 2 is a front end elevation of the supports shown in Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation showing a pair of trousers suspended from a pair of the supports.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing a modified form of the device in which the parts are made with a cast material instead of wire.
Fig. 5 is a front end elevation of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a modified form of the device which is portable and adjustable and capable of supporting trousers on the opposite sides of the device.
Fig. 7 is an end elevation of Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a front elevation of a modified form of the device in which the members are made tele-' scoping.
Fig. 9 is a plan of Fig. 8. Fig. 10 is a section taken along the line Iii-l0 in Fig. 8.
Fig. 11 is a section taken along the line Il ll in Fig. 8.
Similar numbers of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring in detail to'the drawing, there is,
. is secured to the support l9 by means of a screw 20.
ployed, as shown in Fig. 3, one of which being placed higher than the other in order that the trousers 2i may hang vertically, as shown in Fig. 3.
In the form of the device shown in Fig. 4 the horizontal hook members 22 are provided with upturned ends 23 and the vertical portions 24 are joined by a continuous horizontal portion 25, which is integral with a base 28 which in turn is 10 secured to the support 19 by means of the screws 2?.
In the form of the device shown in Figs. 6 and "la plain stick 28 is employed. This is provided with a supporting hook 29 near its middle and. has a pair of fixed hooks 30 extending in opposite directions on the upper side of the stick 28 substantially normal to the length thereof while the opposite end of the stick 28 is provided with notches 3! which receive the loops 32 of the horizontal hooks 33 which project in opposite directions from the underside of the stick 28. The loops 32 are independently removable making it possible to hang garments of different sizes on the opposite sides of the stick 28 if desired.
While I have shown the hooks 3! on the upper side of the stick 28 and the hooks 33 on the lower side thereof, it will be understood that by reason of the fact that the supporting hook 29 is free to rock on its support that the stick 28 will adjust itself to the angularity of the trouser band 34 due to the weight of the trousers themselves.
In the form of the device shown in Figs. 8 to 11 there is employed a pair of telescopic members 35 and 36. It will be noted that the inner member 36 35 is somewhat loose within the member 35 and that it is provided with notches 3'5, which engage the upturned lip 38 of the member 35. The member 3i: is supported either by means of the screws 39 or by means of a hook (not shown) but identical in function with the hook 29, shown in Fig. 6.
The member 35 is provided at one end with the laterally turned hook 40, while the member 36 is provided with the laterally turned hook 4!.
The operation of the various forms of the device is as follows: It is assumed that the trousers 2| are provided with loops 12, and it is by means of those at the front and rear thereof that the trousers 2| may be suspended between a pair of the hooks i2, 22, 30 and 33 or 48 and M. For 50 home use or in situations where a number of trousers must be taken care of the forms shown in Figs. 1 and 4 will be most desirable, but for traveling purposes or in hotels, the form shown in Figs.
6 and 8 will be found preferable.
I am of course aware that many forms of trouser supports have been structed in the past. It is therefore not my intention to cover such devices broadly, but I do intend to cover all such forms and modifications thereof which fall fairly in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A trouser hanger consisting of a pair of telescopic slides having a limited amount of lateral clearance, one of said telescopic members having notches formed along one edge thereof and the other member having a lip formed therein adapted to engage said notches, the outermost ends of said members having laterally extending loop engaging hooks projecting therefrom.
2. A trouser hanger consisting of a pair of telescopic slides having a limited amount of lateral clearance, one of said telescopic members having notches formed along one edge thereof and the other member having a lip formed therein adapta slide for the purpose of varying the relative spacing of the ends thereof, means for holding the portions of said slide in a desired position, a plurality of loop engaging hooks horizontally disposed under one edge of a slide and normal thereto and similar hooks disposed at the opposite end of said slide and normal thereto on the same side of said slide as are the first mentioned hooks.
