This invention relates to a floor mop and more particularly to a type of iloor mop in which the mop head or frame may be disengaged from the mop swab.

An object of the invention is to provide a mop in which the head securely grips the swab and in which the head may be readily disengaged from or inserted into the swab pockets. A further object is to provide a swab which is adapted i to be used as a hand swab, the pockets of the swab serving as a glove for the hand, when the mop head is not in place. Other specific objects and advantages will appear as the specication proceeds.

In the illustration given, A designates a swab;

The swabA preferably comprises a bottom fabric wall III having a toe piece II secured to its forward edge portion and having heel pieces 30 I2 secured across its rear corner portions. The

toe piece II and heel pieces I2 are secured to the edge portions of the bottom wall I 0 by stitches I3. The mop cords I4 are secured to the swab fabric by stitches I5 in the usual manner.

The mop head B comprises a wire body bent in the form illustrated providing a toe portion I6 and two heel portions I1. The ends of the wire after forming forwardly extending ears or loops I B are secured within the clamp I9 which 4,0 is integrally formed with the handle-receiving portion 20. With the construction illustrated, it will be noted that the heel portions I1 may be drawnl inwardly to narrow the rear portion of the frame.

' Operation When it is desired to insert the head B within the pockets of the swab A. the toe portion I 6 of head B is pressed forward intocontact with the pocket formed by the 'we piece II so as to snugly dll the pocket. The heel parts I 1 may then be sprung toward each other to enable them to be received within the pockets formed by heel pieces I2. If desired, one of the heel parts I1 lmay be ilrst slipped into position and then the other heel part slipped into position. The spring of the metal causes the portions Il to expand against the walls of the heel pockets. At the same time, the extension of the heel pieces I2 forwardly below the toe pieces Il serves to conceal the sides of the metal frame B. It will also be observed that the forwardly extending loops or ears I8 extend under the toe piece II and engage the toe piece when the frame B is lifted. At the same time, the handle clamp I9 is free to swing upon its pivot without contact with the toe piece II.

When it is desired to remove the head B, this is accomplished by springing the heels I1 inwardly so as to permit first one and then the other of the heels I1 to clear the heel pockets. The head may then be drawn rearwardly to remove the toe portion I8 from the toe pocket.

When it is desired to use the swab without the head B and as a. hand swab, the head B may be removed and the hand thrust forward into the glove-like toe pocket.

In the modified form shown in Fig. 4, the bottom wall I0 and toe piece II are the same as shown in Fig. 1. The heel pieces 2l, however, extend toward the center and overlap a short distance. The overlap is free so that the heels of the head B may be inserted rst into the pocket on the right and then into the pocket on the left.

The foregoing detailed description has been given for clearness of understanding only, and no unnecessary limitations should be understood therefrom, but the appended claims should be construed as broadly' as permissible, in view of the prior art.

I claim:

'1. A swab comprising: an elongated fabric wall, a fabric toe piece extending across the forward portion of said wall and secured to the edge portion thereof. and fabric heel pieces extending across' the rear corners of said wall and secured tothe edge portions of said wall forwardly below said toe piece.

2. A swab comprising: an elongated fabric wall, a fabric toe piece extending over the forward portion of said wall and secured to the edges thereof, a pair of separate fabric heel pieces extending over the rear corners of said wail and secured to the edges thereof, a portion of one heel piece secured to the` rear edge of said wall overlapping a similar portion of the other heel piece.

3. A mop comprising: an elongated fabric wall, a fabric toe piece extending over the forward portion of said wall and secured to the edge portions thereof, heel pieces extending across the rear. corners of said wall and tautly secured to the edges thereof. said heel pieces at their forward ends and said toe piece at its rear side being in overlapping relation.
