This invention relates to folding boxes and the method of making the same.
My invention, as to an aspect thereof, relates to a collapsible folding-box-blank having a body of generally rectangular contour, suitably scored and/or creased, which when set-up presents side walls of non-rectangular configuration.
My invention, as to an aspect thereof, relates to a collapsible folding-box-blank having a body of generally rectangular configuration, suitably scored and/or creased, which when set-up presents side-walls symmetrically related to one another and disposed out of normal relation with the bottom and top of the resulting box.
My invention, as to an aspect thereof, relates to a collapsible folding-box-blank, suitably scored and/or creased in the body of the blank or provision for the side-walls, the bottom and its associated end-flaps being connected to the body of the blank as extensions, and also the top and its associated end-flaps, whereby upon folding the blank and setting-up the box, portions of the body of the blank, disposed in serial relation to' one another from top to bottom, are flexed out of uni-planar relation.
Preferably, such blanks are of integral material. The procedure for forming the-blank into collapsed sleeve-like form is conveniently had by securement of the side-edges of the blank to one another, as by gluing, stapling, taping, stitching or by other suitable means or procedure.
The embodiments of my invention having body-portions of generally rectangular configuration possess the advantage of affording manufacture thereof'on-present-day standard automatic machines, involving the application of glue or other adhesive upon the blank adjacent one edge of the body of the blank and also the folding of opposing edge-portions of the body of the blank upon one another, accompanied by application of pressure for the securement of the blank into collapsed sleeve-like form.
Numerous types of embodiments of my invention result in boxes having variously contoured sub-faces, i. e., facets, the same being disposed in symmetrical relation to one another. Such facets maybe formed in the side-walls or may beformed in the end-walls, i. e., top and bottom, or in both side-walls and end-walls and at the .corners of the box.
In general, boxes formed pursuant to my. in vention, produced either on standard automatic folding-box-making machines or by manual op-' eration, embody blanks, each of which comprises 2. body, suitably scored and/or creased, for provision of the side walls, and further scored and/ or creased with fold lines non-parallel to said side defining score and/or creased lines, and further comprises extensions connected to the body of the blank for the end-walls, and upon setting-up the box, that is, by securementof edge-portions of the body of the blank and displacement of the portions of the blank-body relative to one another, the edges of adjacently related side-walls are disposed out of coincidence with the corners of regulation types of boxes.
Further features and'objects of the invention will be more fully understood from the following detail description and thea ccompanying drawings, in Which-- Fig. '1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of my invention having reentrantly angular, dual-planed side-walls; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the inner face of the scored or creased blank of the same; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank partly folded upon itself preparatory to securing its opposing side-edges to one another by means of adhesive.

fold lines 321', 322, are parallel to the rectilinear side edge 32a of the lateral and glue-area extension 32w, at one side of the blank, and that the extreme edgeportions of the side opposite said rectilinear side edge 32a are substantially parallel to said rectilinear side edge 32a, and accordingly upon folding the blank along said rectilinear fold lines 321:, 32z,-portions of the blank adjacent said extreme side edge portions are brought into overlying relation with said lateral glue-area extension, thus enabling the blank to be folded on standard box making machinery into a collapsed sleeve-like glued blank.
Upon grasping the thus doubly folded, collapsed, sleeve-like glued blank, and applying pressure inwardly at the oppositely disposed primary fold-lines 32:1: and 32a, the box is expanded out of its original flat-folded collapsed status, the respective side-walls being displaced relatively to one another and flexed into their respective nonrectangular dual-planed formation. The final positioning-of the side-wall-areas, and therewith the top and bottom, is efiected by bending over the respective end- flaps 32k, 32m at the top, the end- flaps 32k and 32m at the bottom, and thereafter bending the top 32 f and likewise the bottom 32 and inserting their respective tuck- flaps 32h and 32h, whereupon the final set-up box illustrated in Fig. 1 is attained.
It will be observed that, in the original flatfolding of the blank on the above "stated two primary fold-lines 32a: and 322, the side-edge-line 32a of the first-folded right hand side portion of the blank is located parallel to and slightly within or to the right of the second primary fold-line 322 (see Fig. 3) so as topermit the free folding of the left-hand side-portion 32y thereupon. It will also be noted that, by such original fiat-folding of the blank, the re-entrantly angled left-hand side-edge-line 32d is brought coincidental with the corresponding re-entrantly angled side-wall edge-line 321.
Assuming the blank, as shown in Fig. 2, to be formed to original flat-folded sleeve-like status on a standard automatic folding-box-making machine involving the usual glue-wheel, the area of application of the glue is indicated at 32w, (see Fig. '3) and the corresponding area of bonding of the left-hand side-portion of the blank, when folded thereupon, is indicated at 32w. The natural coincidental extent of the said bonding area 3211; and of the said glue application area 32w accordingly gives rise'to two triangular unglued areas 32w" and 3210".
Upon setting-up the box, these stated unglued areas are held flush with the underlying corresponding glueless areas of the right-hand sideedge-portion 'of the blank, and their cut edges held coincidental with the re-entrantly angled side-wall edge-line 321, 'by the inward folding of the end- flaps 32m and 32m.
It will be observed that the resulting seam-line is thus made not coincident with the primary fold-line 322 and it is also noted that in this type of embodiment of my. invention, each primary fold-line 32a: and'32z is positioned intermediate-and in the instance shown in Fig. 1, substantially midway-between the side-Wall edgelines 32s, 32t and between the blanks side-edgeline 32d and the side-wall edge-line 32u.
The embodiment 33 shown in Fig. 4 corresponds generally to that shown in Fig. 1, and like parts" are designated by like reference characters, that is to say, the reference number 33 supplemented by corresponding letters and primes. However,
the score or crease-lines, 33s, 3315 and 3311., Fig. 4,
and likewise the hidden score or crease-line 331, are curved in lieu of being re-entrantly angular and the side-walls arcuate instead of dual-planed.
The box 34 as shown in Fig. 5, is formed'from the blank shown in Fig. 6, the corresponding parts of the blank shown in Fig. 6 as compared with the blank shown in Fig. 2 bearing the reference number 34 supplemented'by corresponding reference letters and primes. It will be observed, as appears in Fig. 5, that the side-wall edges in this form of my invention extend rectilinearly from' 7 top to bottom and are oriented to a position disposed outside of the planes of contiguous sidewalls of a regulation rectangular box, and .as illustrated in Fig. 5, the extent of orientation, indicated by the direction of extension of the top relative to the bottom, is approximately ninety degrees. i
The box as shown in Fig. '7 is formed from the blank shown in Fig. 8 and portions of its blank corresponding to comparable portions of the blank of Fig. 2 are designated by the reference and primes. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 7,
the side-walls are curvedly triangular in shape and compoundly arcuate of surface and extend correlatively from the top and the bottom, respectively, of the box. Also its top is rotated through an approximate angle of forty-five degrees relative to its bottom.
The embodiment 36 shown in Fig. 9 is formed from the blank shown in Fig. 10 and parts of its blank comparable to parts of the blank shown in Fig. 2 are designated by the reference number 36 supplemented by corresponding reference letters and primes. The box as illustrated in Fig. 9 gives rise to a bottom of rectangular formation and atop of hexagonal formation.
The box 31 shown in Fig. 11 is formed from the blank shown in Fig. 14 and parts of its blank comparable to parts of the blank shown in Fig. 2
are designated by the reference number 31 supand primes.
The box illustrated in Fig. 11 has a rectangular top and bottom and dual-planed re-entrantly angular side-walls similar to those of the box shownin Fig. 1 but with correlatively faceted corner areas interposed between the respective side-wall areas. Such re-entrantly faceted corner areas arise from the introduction of additional re-entrantly angled side-wall-defining score or crease-lines 3177, 3'Iss, 3'Itt and 311m, so disposed that their upper and lower ends meet, respectively, the upper and lower ends of the original side-wall-edge-defining score or creaselines 311" to 31u.
A further feature of the box shown in Fig. 11 is that of the tabs 3111a, 31a'a (see Fig. 14) appended to the left-hand side-edges of the top and bottom end-flaps 31m, 31m, respectively. These tabs serve to supplement the inward folding of the said top and bottom end-flaps in their incidental function of thus bringing and maintaining the unglued areas 31w", 3'Iw' of the lefthand side-edge-portion of the blank flush with The finaltucked-in position of the respective bottom end-closure portions of the box, thus attained, is shown in Fig. 12, viewed downwardly on the section l2l2 indicated in Fig. 11; a detail cross-sectional view on the line I3--I3 of Fig. 12

-The box shown in Figs. 16 and 17 conforms largely to the box shown in Fig. 11, and like portions are designated by the reference number 38 supplemented by corresponding reference letters and primes. In the box shown in Fig. 16, the edges of the corner-facets and the side-walls extend curvedly from the top 'to the bottom, whereas the box shown in Fig. 11 has re-entrantly angular facet and side-wall edges which extend from the top to the bottom.
At the partly broken away corner of the box shown in Fig. 16 and also in Fig. 17 is illustrated a slight flexing of the corners of the tuck-portion 38h of the top end-closure 38) to permit the tuck, uponbeing inserted, to conform more nearly to the contour of the box at such location. The stated flexing of the said tuck-corners also results in the side-edges of the tuck forming an acute angle instead of a right angle with the side-edge of the top end-closure, having thus the effect of more securely locking the tuck in position than would otherwise be the case.
The box 39 shown in Fig. 18, formed from the blank shown in Fig. 19, is of the general type of the box shown in Fig. 11 and like parts are designated by the reference 'number 39 supplemented by corresponding reference letters and primes. The facet-edges of this box, however, and the coincidental edges of its side-walls, as appears in Fig. 18, are re-entrantly curved instead of angular, and it will be noted, also, that the oppositely re-entrant curvatures of the stated facet and side-wall edges induce reversely corresponding arcuate surfaces of the respective facet and sidewall areas when they are fiexed into being as the box is set up, similarly as described with respect to the box shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 19 further indicates at 39w the application of the adhesive, either manually or by printing or other procedure, to the whole of the area to the left of the side-wall edge-line 39r at the lefthand side portion of the body of the blank, which is here shown outer face up. (This has heretofore been referred to as the right-hand side of the blank where shown inner face up as in Figs. 2 and 14.) Thus, upon doubly folding the blank upon itself at the primary fold-lines 391:, 392, a fully glued overlap and seam is provided in lieu of the partly unglued overlap and resulting free side-edge-line, as in the case of the blanks shown in Figs. 2 and 14.
Fig. 19 still further illustrates location of the top and bottom end-closures directly in line with one another, at the same side of the blank body, to form what is commonly referred to as a straight tuck box, whereas all other embodiments shown, except those illustrated in Figs. '7 to 10, are of the so called reverse tuck style.
The box 40, shown in Fig. 20, is formed from the blank shown in Fig. 21. This type of my invention has a width dimension greater than its height dimension and in this sense has cornerfaceis at the ends of the box. The respective parts of the blank and its score or crease lines are designated 40 with reference characters and primes corresponding to those designating like parts of the blank shown in Fig. 2. iThe box shown in Fig. 20 also illustrates a form of supplemental closure lock, that is, a slot A and cooperating tab 433 for the top closure 40!, see Figs. 20 and 21, and corresponding slot 40A and tab 40B for the bottom closure 40f, particularly effective in instances of boxes of considerable width.
The box 4|, shown in Fig, 22, is formed from the blank shown in Fig. 23, the respective parts of which are designated 4| with reference letters and primes corresponding to those designating like parts of Fig. 2. In the main, the body of the blank here shown corresponds generally to that of the blank shown in Fig. 6, but in this instance,
faceted areas, created by the sets of score or crease lines Mn, 4lnn and Mp, pp, are located at the upper ends of two opposite sides of the resulting box, giving them each an inwardly sloping gable-end formation. The top end-closure, in this embodiment, consequently has reentrantly angled side-edges and a laterally extending crease-line 4lgg whereon the same is folded to enable it to conform to the said gableend formation of the sides. The top of the illustrated box is thus of dual-planed surface when closed.
The box 42, shown in Fig. 24-, is formed from the blank shown in Fig. 25, and corresponding parts of the blank and resulting box are designated 42 with reference characters and primes corresponding to those of Fig. 23, and, in turn, to those of Fig. 2. The box-here illustrated has both faceted top and faceted front and back walls, the whole being otherwise generally similar to the box shown in Fig. 22.
The box 43'shown in Fig. 26 illustrates particularly, as has been stated, the partly coincidental locating of certain of the corner-facet edge-lines with the two primary fold-lines of the blank. In
the particular embodiment illustrated, the box has both top and bottom of rectangular shape but a main body portion of hexagonal cross-section, which latter is occasioned by eliminating one of the normally two pairs of oppositely disposed side-walls and enlarging the corner-facets to an extent that their respective side-edge-lines, 4353, 4315, and 431*, 431m, which previously adjoined the said eliminated side-walls, are brought n coincidental with each other and with major portions of the respective primary fold-lines 43m. and 432 (not visible in Fig, 26) which formerly traversed the centers of the two eliminated sidewalls.
It is to be noted here, also, that the corner facets in this embodiment are of hexagonal shape and that both they and the correlatively contoured remaining side-walls are of tri-planar surface. And it is further to be observed that, in the event of non-elimination of the said form of oppositely disposed side-walls, the primary fold-lines 431:, 43a might still extend in part coincidentally with side-edge-lines of'two oppositely disposed corner-facets, though such primary fold-lines. would thus no longer traverse centrally the respective end-flaps of the box.
As appears from the foregoing, my invention,
as to certain types thereof, is directed to boxes formed from integral blanks, of suitable foldable material, each having a main body portion with suitably contoured and thereto appended end portions, to serve as closures of the box when formed, the said blanks being appropriately scored or creased to effect, when formed and set up, a collapsible folding-box having side and/or end walls of nonrectangular and/or nonuni-planar formation.
However, boxes of such unusual configuration, produced pursuant to my invention, need not of necessity be formed from wholly integral blanks, but may, if desired, be formed of several pieces of material and either wholly or in part of other than strictly foldable material.
Paper or paper-board (box-board) is a highly suitable and in most respects preferable material from which boxes pursuant to my invention may be produced, but other materials in either sheet or web form, such as various forms of fibre-board, fabric, thin metals, cellulose compositions, phenol-resinous and/or other composition materials tangular contour and the side edges, particularly, of which are generally parallel. Moreover, the more advantageous types of embodiments of my invention provide also for scoring or creasing of the blank in such manner as to afford two suitably located primary fold-lines both parallel to the aforesaid parallel side-edges of the blank, and therefore to each other, whereon the blank may be first truly and squarely folded, from each side, upon itself to effect the necessary over-lapping and ultimate securement to each other of the two side edges of the blank to form the same to primary collapsed sleeve-like status, thus enabling, through this point in the formation of the resulting box, the maintenance of a generally true rectangular shape of the originally flat-folded, sleeve-like formed blank. These two attributes of the more advantageous types of embodiments of my invention render their blanks wholly adaptable to such primary flat-folding and securement to each other of their sides upon present-day standard automatic folding-box-making machines.
Referring in this respect, to the blanks shown in Figs. 6, 8 and 10 and also to the blanks shown in Figs. 23 and 25, it will be observed that the blank-portions appearing as flaps extending laterally of the respective right-hand side-edges thereof, and designated respectively 34am, 35cc, 36cc, Man. and flaa, serve to render the respective right-hand side-edges of. the blanks substantially parallel to their respective left-hand sideedges, thus imparting to the body of each blank the above stated generally true rectangular contour necessary to its proper treatment in such standard automatic folding-box-making machines.
Again, however, my invention is not to be construed as limited by the above stated'provisions for manufacture upon such standard or any other automatic machinery, as various embodiments not so provided may be satisfactorily produced in other ways, both manually and/or by machine.
Furthermore, various of the more advantageous types of embodiments of my invention are readily adapted to automatic machine filling, closing and/or sealing, though they need not of necessity be so filled, closed and/or sealed. In this respect, it is to be understood that suitable modifications, either of a special or wholly conventional nature, may be made in the respective closure portions of the various embodiments of my invention so as more fully to adapt them to such automatic machine filling, closing and/or sealing, without departing from the general scope of my invention. An incidental feature to be noted with respect to the end-flaps (see 32m, 32m, 32s, 328, Fig. 2) generally incorporated in embodiments of my invention, is that of the availability and serviceability of such flaps to facilitate removal of con-.
tents of the box. When the box has been set up and packed with a pourable commodity, and later opened, the scoring or creasing of such an end flap in effecting the respective primary fold-line of the blank, and the subsequent original fiatfolding of the blank thereon, causes it, when opened, to assume a convenient trough-like pouring-spout formation and thus to facilitate materially the dispensing of the commodity.
Whereas I have described my invention by reference to specific forms thereof, it will be understood that many changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
1. A blank for a box having abody portion providing for the side walls of the resulting box, extensions connected at the top and bottom of the blank providing for the top and its associated end flaps and the bottom and its associated end flaps respectively, the body of the blank being scored or creased non-rectilinearly from top to bottom to provide when set-up symmetrical side walls of the box related to one another at angles other than right angles and at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blank being further provided at one side with a lateral extension having a rectilinear side edge, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending parallel to said .i'ectilinear side edge, the extreme sidewise edge portions of the side of said blank opposite said rectilinear edge side being parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby affording flat foldability of the blank upon itself along said two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines, with portions of said opposing side of the blank overlying said side extension.
2. A blank for a box having a body portion providing for the side walls of the resulting box, extensions connected at the top and bottom of the blank providing for the top and its associated end flaps and the bottom and its associated enl flaps respectively, the body of the blank being scored or creased by sets of mutually serially related scored or creased lines, the lines of each set extending from top to bottom at an angle respectively to one another, to provide when set-up side walls disposed in serial relation from top to bottom in re-entrant planes, and related at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blank being further provided at one side with a, lateral extension having a rectilinear side edge, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending parallel to said rectilinear side edge, the extreme sidewise edge portions of the side of said blank opposite said rectilinear edge side being parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby affording flat foldability of the blank upon itself along said two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines, with portions of said opposing side of the blank overlying said side extension.
3. A blank for a box having a body portion providing for the side walls of the resulting box, extensions connected at the top and bottom of the blank providing for the top and its associated end flaps and the bottom and its associated end flaps respectively, the body of the blank being scored or creased by parallelly extending sets of mutually serially related scored or creased lines, the lines of each set extending at an angle respectively to one another to provide when setup symmetrically disposed sets of side walls disposed in serial relation from top to bottom in reentrant planes, and related at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blank being further provided at one side with a lateral extension-having a rectilinear side edge, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending parallel to said rectilinear side edge, the extreme-sidewise edge portions of the side of said blank opposite said rectilinear edge side being parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby affording flatfoldability of the blank upon itself along said two mutually spaced rectilinear ,fold lines, with por-' tions of said opposing side of the blank overlying said side extension.
4. A blank for a box having a body portion providing for the side walls of the resulting box, extensions connected at the top and-bottom of the blank providing for the top and its associated end flaps and the bottom and its associated end flaps respectively, the .body of the blank being curvedly scored or creased plurally from top to bottom to provide when set-up side walls disposed, in serial relation from top to bottom in curved surfaces, and related at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blank being further provided at one side with a lateral extension having a rectilinear side edge, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending parallel to said rectilinear side edge, the extreme sidewise edge portions of the side of said blank opposite said rectilinear edge side being parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby afiording fiat foldability of the blank upon itself along said two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines, with portions of said opposing side of the blank overlying said side extension.
5. A blank for a box having a body portion providing for the side walls of the resulting box, extensions connected at the top and bottom of the blank providing for the top and its associated end flaps and the bottom and its associated end flaps respectively, the body of the blank being curvedly scored or creased plurally symmetrically from top to 'bottom to provide when set-up symmetrically disposed sets of side walls disposed in serial relation from top to bottom in curved surfaces, and related at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blank being further provided at one side with a lateral extension having a rectilinear side edge, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending parallel to said rectilinear side edge, the extreme sidewise edge'portions of the side of said blank opposite said rectilinear edge side being parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby affording fiat foldability of the blank upon itself along said two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines, with portions of said opposing side of the blank overlying said side extension.
6. A blank for a box having a body portion of substantially rectangular configuration providing for the side walls of the resulting box, extensions connected at the top and bottom of the blank providing for the top and its associated end fiaps and the bottom and its associated end flaps respectively, the body of the blank being non-rectilinearly scored or creased plurally symmetrically from top to bottom to provide when set-up side walls of the box related to one another at angles other than right angles and at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blank being further provided at one side with a lateral extension having a rectilinearside edge, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear'fold lines extending parallel to said rectilinear side edge, the extreme sidewise edge portions of the side of said blank opposite said rectilinear edge side being parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby affording fiat foldability of the blank upon itself along said two mutually spaced rectilinear fold linesfwith' portions of said opposing side of the blank overlying said side extension. v v

A blank fora box having a body portion of substantially rectangular configuration providing and the bottom and its associated end flaps respectively, the body of the blank being symmetrically non-rectilinearly scored or creased plurally from top to bottom to provide when setup symmetrical side walls of the box related to one another at angles other than right angles and at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blank being further provided at one side with a lateral extension having a rectilinear side edge, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending parallel to said rectilinear side edge, the extreme sidewise edge portions of the side of said blank opposite said rectilinear edge side being parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby affording fiat foldability of theblank upon itself along said two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines, with portions of said opposing side of the blank overlying said side extension.
8. A blank for a box having a body portion of substantially rectangular configuration providing for the side walls of the resulting box,-
extensions connected at the top and bottom of the blank providing for the top and its associated end flaps and the bottom and its associated end flaps respectively, the body of the blank being plurally scored or creased by sets of mutually serially related scored. or creased lines the lines of each set extending rectilinearly from top' to bottom at an angle respectively to one another, to provide when set-up side walls disposed in serial relation from top to bottom in re-entrant planes, and related at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blank being furtherprovided at one side with a lateral extension having a rectilinear side edge, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending parallel to said rectilinear side edge, the extreme sidewise edge portions of the side of said blank opposite said rectilinear edge side being parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby affording flat foldability of the blank upon itself along said two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines, with portions of said opposing side of the blank overlying said side extension.
9. A blank for a box having a body portion of substantially rectangular configuration providing for the side walls of the resulting box, extensions connected at the top and bottom of the blank providing for the top and its associated end flaps and the bottom and its associated end flaps respectively, the body of the blank being plurally scored or creased by parallelly extending sets of mutually serially related scored or creased lines the lines of each set extending rectilinearly from top to bottom at an angle respectively to one another, to provide when set-up symmetrically disposed sets of side walls disposed in serial relation from top to bottom in re-entrant planes, and related at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blankbeing further provided at one, side with a lateral extension having a rectilinear side edge, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending parallel to said rectilinear side edge, the extreme sidewise edge portions of the side of said blank opposite said rectilinear edge side being parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby affording fiat foldability of the blank upon itself along said two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines, with portions of said opposing side of the'blank overlying said side extension.
10. A blank for a box having a body portion of substantially rectangular configuration pro viding for the side walls of the resulting box, ex-' tensions connected at the top and bottom of the blank providing for the top and its associated end flaps and the bottom and its associated end flaps respectively, the body of the blank being plurally curvedly scored or creased from top to bottom to provide when set-up side walls disposed in serial relation from top to bottom in curved surfaces, and related at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blank being further provided at one side with a lateral extension having a rectilinear side edge, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending parallel to said rectilinear side edge, the extreme sidewise edge portions of the side of said blank opposite said rectilinear edge side being parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby afiording fiat foldability of the blank upon itself along said two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines, with portions of said opposing side of the blank overlying said side extenslon.
11. A blank for a box having a body portion of substantially rectangular configuration providing for the side walls of the resulting box, extensions connected at the top and bottom of the blank providing for the top and its associated end flaps and the bottom and its associated end flaps respectively, the body of the blank being plurally curvedly symmetrical from top to bottom scored or creased to provide when set-up symmetrically disposed sets of side walls disposed in serial relation from top to bottom in curved surfaces. and related at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blank being further provided at one side with a lateral extension having a rectilinear side edge, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending parallel to said rectilinear side edge, the extreme sidewise edge portions of the side of said blank opposite said rectilinear edge side being parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby affording flat foldability of the blank upon itself along said two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines, with portions of said opposing side of the blank overlying said side extension.
12. A blank for a box having a body portion providing for the side wallsof the resulting box, extensions connected at the top and bottom of the blank, providing for the top and its associated end flaps and the bottom and its associated end flaps respectively having one of its lateral edges rectilinear, the body of the blank being scored or creased by sets of mutually serially related scored or creased lines the lines of each set extending at an angle respectively to one another, to provide when set-up side walls of the box related to one another at angles other than right angles and at angles other than right angles to the top and bottom, said blank being further provided with mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending non-parallelly relative to said sets of mutually serially related scored or creased lines, said blank further comprising an extension at one side of the blank and having a rectilinear side edge extending substantially parallel to said mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines, the extreme sidewise edge portions of the portion of the blank opposite said rectilinear side edge being substantially parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby affording flat 'foldability of the blank upon itself, with opposing portions of the blank overlying one another.
13. A container formed of a blank of foldable material, the walls thereof when the container is set up, comprising alternate concave and convex panels, irregular score lines defining the marginal edges of said concave and convex panels and serving the connection between the panels, said irregular score lines being arranged in pairs in opposed relation whereby setting up of the box produces the aforementioned concave and convex panels and produces tension therein, said blank being further provided with two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines extending non-parallelly to said irregular score lines, said blank further comprising a lateral extension at one side of the blank having a rectilinear side edge extending parallel to said two mutually spaced rectilinear fold lines, the extreme sidewise edge portions of the side of the blank opposing said rectilinear side edge being substantially parallel to said rectilinear side edge, thereby afiording fiat foldability of the blank upon itself, with opposing portions of the blank overlying one another.
