. I Application February 24, 1936, Serial No. 65,458
(01. zap-14s The invention relates to a dispensing cap for .bottles and more especially to a bottle closure and dropper.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a cap of this character, wherein the same when worn upon the mouth of a bottle will enable the liquid content to be dispensed therefrom in drops and when the bottle is in upright position the same will be closed to eliminate leakage of the content of the bottle, the cap being of novel construction and the dropping of the liquid is effected by a depressible bulb fitted with said cap.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a cap of this character, which is extremely simplein construction, thoroughly reliable and efllcient in its operation, neat in appearance, readily and easily applied to and removed from a bottle neck, possessing but few parts, and inexpensive to manufacture.
' With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of constructiomcombination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of a bottle 39 showing the cap constructed in accordance with the invention applied-thereto.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on'the line 2-2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is an elevation partly in section showing the dispensing nipple adjusted for permitting liquid to be dropped from the bottle.
, Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of, the cap removed from the bottle. Similar reference characters indicate correspending parts throughout the several views in I the drawing.
Referring to thedrawing in detail, A designates generally a portionoi a bottle having an externally threaded mouth end it for the fitting thereon or the dispensing cap constituting the present invention and hereinafter fully described.
This dispensing cap comprises a collar-like. body it formed with an internally threaded inner end 82 for detachable engagement with the 59 mouth end it of the bottle A while the thickened outer end it is formed with a central dispensing opening iii, the wall of such opening be ing outwardly flared and covering this outer end is a rubber compressible bulb it, it having marginally trimaran internal head is name in an annular seat it formed externally in the thickened outer end I! for the coupling of such bulb with the body H as will be clearly apparent from Figures 2 and 3 0i thedrawing. f
Thebulb is formed with a central inwardly directed stem l8 terminating in a conical shaped valve l9 which is normally seated against the inner end of the opening H as provided in the thickened outer end." so that this opening I will be closed and on depressing the bulb 15 the opening I will be cleared to permit the discharge of the contents of the bottle A therethrough.
Adjustably threaded laterally in the thickened outer end iii of the body I i is a dispensing nipple 20, the socket for the said nipple being in communication with the opening I! bya passage 2i and this passage is normally closed by screwing the nipple 20 inwardly in its socket to shut off the passage 2| therefrom. On unscrewing the nipple 20 from its socket-the passage 2| is opened so that the contents from .the bottle A can be dispensed by flow through the opening I, passage 2i and nipple 20. The nipple 20 in its.construction is in the form of a dropper spout for discharging the contents of the bottle A drop by dropthrough said nipple when the bottle is inverted and the bulb I5 is depressed.
Normally when the bottle is in an upright position the nipple 20 is screwed completely within its socket to close the passage 2| so that leakage from the bottle is prevented even if the same is inverted.
When it is desired to dispense the contents, the nipple 20 is unscrewed from its socket and on depressing the bulb i5 the valve I9 is unseated and such liquid within the bottle is forced therefrom by air through pressing the bulb 55 for the discharge of liquid through the nipple 263 and'the flow of the liquid therethrough can be regulated by adjustment of said ripple.
What is claimed is:
A clmure of the character described comprising a collar-like body opening through opposite ends and having an internally threaded inner end for detachable engagement with c.- bottle neck mouth and having an annular external groove at the other end thereof, a shoulder formed interiorly of said body to provide a valve seat, an inherently resilient cap-like member covering the outer end of; saidbody and seated in said groove for effecting a depressible bulb, a valve depending centrally from said bulb and normally engaging the valve seat, and. a pouring nipple carried by said body and having communication with the bottle mouth at the interior of said body.
