2 Claims.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in metallic receptacles more particularly to containers of the type having the annularly grooved upper portion for receiving a lid rib. The principal object of the present invention is to provide a lid rib receiving groove formation wherein the bottom of the formation is provided with slots so that paint or other contents of the can that may get into the groove can readily drain in.
Another important object of the invention is in view of the above objects wherein the rib of the lid is provided with bosses for engaging into the slots for normally maintaining the slots clear.
These and various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the can with the lid removed.
Fig. 2 represents a fragmentary sectional and perspective view showing the can with the lid in closed position with respect thereto.
. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through a can with the lid thereon.
Referring to the drawing, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5- represents a can which has the grooved lid rib receiving construction or trough 6 provided on the upper edge portion thereof.
Numeral I represents the lid which is pro vided with the upward and downward annular formation detlning the rib 9 for engagement into the trough 8.
In carrying out the present invention, the
Elongated bosses III are provided on the bot- 5 tom portion of the rib I at the same intervals as the slots 9 in the trough 6 so that when the lid 1 is placed upon the can 5, these bosses can press into the slots 9 to keep the slots clear so that liquid or other matter will not harden and 10 clog up these slots.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size, and materials may be resorted to without de- 15 parting from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new isz 1. A receptacle of the character described com- '20 prising a container having an annular trough at the upper edge thereof, a lid having an annular rib thereon for engagement into the trough, said trough being provided with slots in the bottom thereof; said rib being provided with bosses 25 thereon for engagement in the slots to keep the said slots clear.
2. A receptacle of the character described com- .prising a container having an annular trough FRANK H. GREER.
