PATENT OFFICE amen' anonymous AND sooner ron NaoN 'ruana e William Loader, st. Louis, Mo. Application June s, sse,.`se No. 85,019 claim. (CL 173-428 dampness, the fixtures being oi' a novel construction so as to permit the quick drying out thereof and draining during inclement weather, so that the interior of the said flxture will 'be maintained dry and in this manner avoid the laying ot the said electrode in water or dampness.
Another object ot the invention is the provision of a flxture of this character wherein the electrode of a neon tube can be conveniently fltted therein and protected from weather element to assure constant dryness within said fixture.
A further object of the invention is the provision oi a flxture of this character which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and eirective in its operation, enabling the convenient fltting of the electrode of a neon tube therein for protection ot such electrode. strong. durabe and ine n nsive to manutacture and instau.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features ot construction. combination and arrangem'ent of parte as will be hereinafter more fully dcscribed, illus trated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the prei'erred 'embodinent ot the *invention and pointed out in the claims hereu'nto appended. In the accompa y s drawi Figu'e 1 is an elevation o! a flxture constructed 'in accordance with the invention.
figure: is a side view thereot. g
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal section o! the same.` v
similar reference characters indicate correspondingparts throughout the several views' in the drawing. e
nererring to the drawing in detail, A designatee generally a portion o! a neon tube which is utiliaed in iorming indicia o! illuminated signs or the like and B the electrodeend which is ad'apted for housing within a flxture or socket 50. constituting the present invention and berem-'- substantially v-shaped ribs I providing thei-cbetween substantiaily v-shaped channels orgrooves which extend throughout the length of the receptacle 5 and are cut through the open end 'I and meet the closed inner end] of 'said recep- 6 7 tacle. These grooves 9 are deep at the open end 'I of the receptacle and gradually decrease in depth in the direction ot the closed end 6 orsaid receptacle.
For-med in the receptacle 5 next to the closed 10 end 8 thereof are laterally directed vents or openings IO which are common to and communicate with the grooves a.
. Fitted centrally in the closed end 8 of the receptacle 5 is a binding post. Il for a wire (not 16 shown) which supplies current to the electrode end B. This binding post il has engaged therewith a coiled expansible contact i! for engaging the electrode end B when'the latter is inserted within the receptacle las is further shown in 20 Figura 3 ot 'the drawing.
The grooves 0 interiorly of the receptacle I are i'or drainage purposes while the openings ll are 'to assure ventilation through the receptacle to'maintain the interier thereof dry. The elec- 25 trode A at its end B when inserted within the receptacle 5 will be brought to settle onto the ribs 8 at the lowermost point of the said receptacle and it is practically impossible that this receptacle collect' foreign matter, insecteso 1 support with which the electrode or neon tube A i is associated while the external shoulder gives mima-cement to the open end 1 of the receptacle. 45
What is' claimed is:
A flxture oi'the character described-comprising a tubular receptacle formin:` a socket .closed at one end and open at its oppo'siteend.
said receptaclebeingtaperedinthedirectiono! so its closed end, and internal ribs tormed !rom the side wall 'of said receptacle and longitudinaliy disposed therein for eflecting drainage grooves therebetween, the ribs being parallel to each other at their apexes and the grooves gradu- 66 aliyslopingfromthecloedendtotheopenend of the socket.
