The present invention relates to sanitary garments and in particular to improvements in that general type disclosed in my U. 8. Patent No. 1,924,642, granted 'Aug. 29, 1933.

In the prior construction above referred to, strap members were employed of an adjustablecharacter and associated with the napkin or pad holding section and these not only had a tendency to place undue stresses at particular points, but

1 they had a tendency to show strap lines when worn with thin apparel.

The present pantie form of my invention. eliminates the use of straps or bands as means'of j support, is designed to fit more smoothly and unnoticeably, embodies an improved form of pocket,

and markedly facilitates replacement and retention of the absorptive pad used therewith, while affording the desired protection and shielding of Fig. 1 is a view in front elevation showing the'- garment as worn;

Like reference characters refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawings. Specifically describing the invention, the body 5 portion thereof is of pantie form of suitable thin knitted or netted material, as indicated at 1, adapted to fit closely and snugly around the body of thewearer at the hips and having preferably a' narrow elastic band 2 about the top thereof. 65 Preferably also. this body section is openable at one side, at least partially, the opening 20 having the desired button or snap closures 3. y The type of fabric material referred to is capable of stretching to a great extent and readily resuming its normal contracted form, so as to .5

always insure a close or snug flt to different forms while being very cool because of its open work character. Garments may be worn over this without discomfort or materially showing the lines thereof, which is a desideratum of imporl0 tance in view of the present day dress.

- The body section I is connected to the crotch section 4 which forms the pad holding portionproper, the lines of connection being curved along the scams 5 and 6. By forming this crotch section of complemental longitudinal sections is and lb,

a pocket I may be let into the central seam, which by its fullness will provide an elongated free holding container for a conventional form of sanitary napkin,-free in the sense of not being constrlcted or compressed by the stresses applied to the surrounding'sections of material by the body portion I. In this way, the pad 8, which,of course, may be of any suitable material, when inserted in the pocket will be free from normal compressive stresses, so as to best perform its absorptive functions.

' At each end of the pocket is attached a fabric retaining strip 9 which makes a small endpccket to receive the end of the napkin, securely holding the latter remcvably in place. To replacethe napkin when desired, one of the ends is slipped out, whereupon it may be easily pulled out of the main pocket I, and a fresh one placed therein.

It is to be understood that the-material of the 5 crotch section, including that of the pocket, is preferably rubberized, at least on one side, namely, that opposite the surface which contacts with the flesh. The sections 4a and lbconstituteprotective flaps which are designed to prevent soiling 40 of the parts of the limbs adJacent to the pad. The seams 5 and 6, the central connecting seam 4c and that surrounding the pocket 4d, are an preferably machine whipped to reinforce the same so as to prevent tearing or rupture and prevent 2 Q' 2,102,359 of the pad. Being of washable material it may be effectively cleansed and maintained in a sanitary condition.

Figure 6 discloses a construction in which the pocket for the reception of the absorptive pad is indicated at l0, and is slit longitudinally as at l I, the free edges of the pocket having secured thereto a separable fastener l2 provided with the usual operating slide member l3.

A protecting flap member I is secured to one edge of the opening formed by the slit and projects across the same above the fastener to overlap the slit and the fastener, as clearly seen in Fig. '7 of the drawings.

With this construction it is not necessary to either loosen the corset, girdle or other garment under which it is worn or to remove the pantie from the wearer in order to replace the absorbent pad member l 5, since by moving the slide member I! to the other end of the separable fastener H the interlocking portion of the fastener will be released in a well known manner, thus opening the slit I3. The soiled pad may then be removed and a fresh one inserted without the necessity or inconvenience of loosening or removing the pantie.

It is obvious that a very quick and convenient replacement of the pad can thus be accomplished. The overlapping flap member I4 efficiently closes the opening between the edges of the slit in the pocket. and also protects the separable fastener from being soiled by the pads. The remainder of the construction, as shown in Figures 6 and 7, is the same as inthe preferred embodiment and therefore the same reference numerals are used -on these parts.

Fig. 8 also discloses a pantie in which the pad retaining pocket is openable longitudinally in order that a pad may be inserted without removal of the pantie, but in this form of the invention the complementary side portions of the pocket, as indicated at N and H, are made wider so as to lay in overlapping relation when in use, as

clearly seen in this figure of the drawing. The side portion I6 is provided throughout its length with button holes or similar openings 18 for the reception of buttons or other securing means l9 similarly disposed on the other side member I i.

While in Fig. 8 I have disclosed buttons for securing the sides I and I! of the pocket together, I contemplate the use of the well known snap fasteners in their place if I so desire.

I claim: 1. A sanitary garment of the class described,

comprising a stretchable body of pantie form,

to' snugly fit the body of the wearer, said pantie body having a closed crotch portion composed of complemental sections seamed centrally, a shallowfulled pocket let into the seam so as to be free from compressive stresses, and strips attached to the ends of the pocket to form small retaining end pockets to receive the ends of I a 7 ing, and a separablefastenerforsecuring the edges of the slit together, the outside edges of pocket being so connected to the surrounding crotch section by a reinforcing seam that the stretching stresses are resisted and the distortion of the pocket is prevented.

4. A sanitary garment of the class described comprising a fabric body member having a closedcrotch portion formed with a central pad receiving pocket attached to the crotch portion by a fulling reinforcing seam, said pocket being formed with alongitudinal opening for the removal of a pad from said pocket through said opening.

In a sanitary garment; a-supporting body having a closed crotch portion formed with .a sanitary pad receiving pocket attached to the crotch portion by a fulled reinforcing seam, said pocket being split longitudinally to permit the removal of a sanitary pad therethrough, closure means on the edges of the slit, and a protecting flap member extending across said opening above said closure means.

In a sanitary garment of the class described, a supporting body havinga closed crotch portion formed with a non-stressed sanitary pad receiving pocket attached to the crotch portion by a reinforcing seam, said pocket comprising a pair of longitudinally disposed overlapping flap members each secured at one edge to the body and means for detachably retaining the overlapping portion of the flap memberstogether, said last means comprising a fastener device carried by one of saidflap members, and a second fastener carried by the other flap member for detachable cooperation with the aforementioned fastener device on, the first flap member.

'7. In a sanitary garment, a supporting body having a closed crotch portion formed with a non-stressed sanitary pad receiving pocket attached to the crotch portion by a reinforcing seam, said pocket being split longitudinally to form a pad removal opening, a separable fastener for closing the free edges of said opening and operative means for said fastener disposed exteriorly of said pocket.
